Shashank Manohar has resigned as the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. He took over the position following the death of Jagmohan Dalmiya in September 2015. Manohar, 59 who was a senior lawyer, was BCCI president from 2008-2011 and was replaced by N. Srinivasan In addition to resigning as president of the BCCI, Manohar also stepped down as the BCCI representative in the ICC. In a letter addressed to Anurag Thakur, the secretary of the BCCI, Manohar said, "I hereby tender my resignation with immediate effect from the post of President of Board of Control for Cricket in India. I also resign with immediate effect as the representative of BCCI on the International Cricket Council, as also the Asian Cricket Council on which I was nominated by the General Body of BCCI. I thank all my colleagues and the staff for their support and cooperation during my tenure. I wish all of you all the very best in taking the cause of Cricket to greater heights." Manohar's exit means that this is the shortest-ever tenure by a BCCI president. There were speculations that Manohar could resign as the president of the BCCI in order to contest for the post of independent chairman of the International Cricket Council. According to the ICC rules, the chairman should be of independent nature and can't act in dual role keeping his position as his country's cricketing chief.

This was a period of intense political flux and paradigmatic shifts. This study draws on primary sources in the form of records of ICC and MCC meetings and newspaper archives, and a wide-ranging corpus of secondary sources on the history of cricket, history of the Commonwealth and transnational perspectives on history. It is the contention of this dissertation that these cricket archives have hitherto not been exploited as commentary on decolonisation or the Commonwealth.     The airwaves as a public good Review of a landmark judgment The Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting v Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) Introduction: The background facts that led to the landmark 1995 judgment of the Supreme Court of India on the airwaves relate to a dispute between the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) over whether or not the cricket organisation had the right to grant exclusive telecast rights to a private agency rather than to Doordarshan. In responding the dispute over the facts of the case, courts at various levels had to examine the larger issue of whether or not the Government or government-related agencies like Doordarshan could enjoy a monopoly over the creation of terrestrial signals and sole discretion over telecasting or not telecasting them. This dispute occurred in the context of the early days of economic liberalization, which saw the entry of private media into an arena that had till then been monopolised by State-owned media like All India Radio and Doordarshan. At stake were also notions of what constitutes the public sphere and which agency could be said to represent the widest section of the public in India. The claims made by Doordarshan in this case, for instance, were clearly premised on the fact that they had the largest reach in terms of audience and, therefore, had a valid claim for a monopoly as far as broadcasting was concerned.
