Overview of the program

Welcome to the Adventurer’s Voice!

This week, night after night, we will take a few minutes to spend time in prayer with our parents and friends.

During the week, you can decide to tell the story "His adopted child" in a creative manner the story of Prince Kaboo (storytelling, shadow puppets, video, puppets, Adventurers' corners ...). This story illustrates that like Kaboo, God has adopted us so that we could be part of his family.

ADVENTURER MININSTRY 3

1st night – A Knot

Welcome (5min) Good evening and welcome to the Adventurer’s week of prayer. The Bible teaches us that where two or three are gathered in the name of Jesus, he is in their midst. I am glad to be here with you for this week of prayer and I know that Jesus is among us. This is the Voice of the Adventurers! It's a week where we are going to spend some time with God. After this week, we Adventurers and our families will form a happy and strong unity in the Lord. Once again, welcome and enjoy this time of prayer.

Opening song (5 min) Invite the church to stand and sing a song of circumstance or ask an Adventurer to sing a special song or a musical piece.

Scripture reading (5 min) Jeremiah 31:1 At the same time, saith the LORD, will I be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be my people.

Prayer (5 min) Ask an Adventurer or a parent to do the opening prayer.

His adopted child (Story - optional) (10 min) Liberia is a country in the west of Africa. Its name comes from a Latin word meaning "free". At the beginning of the 19th century, following the abolition of slavery in the United States, former American slaves left the United States to return to the country of their ancestors, in Africa, and found a colony.

In an African village deep in the forest of Liberia, somewhere near the Cestos River was a forest in which the Kru people lived. The Kru tribe had a young prince: Prince Kaboo son of Chief Kaboo. Kaboo was the surname given to any male in this family.

Prince Kaboo lived in his village with his father, mother and younger sister Yout. One morning while Prince Kaboo was walking among the mango trees near the village, he saw his friend Margol who was doing something strange.

"What are you doing Margol?" Asked the young prince. "I am making an altar so that the spirit of the living dead can protect our village from the Grebos tribe," replied Margol. "The spirit of the dead?" Asked Kaboo. "How can the dead help us?" "You are really ignorant. And you are the chief's son!" Exclaimed Margol. "Remember, my grandmother died not so long ago. I know she's watching over me. I prepare this altar for her. I’m going to put food there so that she can eat while she watches over our village. " "Well then, I too will do the same! Before the sun goes down, my altar will be done and there will be enough food for an entire army of spirits! "

The Grebos are a rival tribe which ravages and pillages the neighboring tribes. When the Grebos attack, they set fire to the village, steal the cattle and harvest them. Sometimes they even take hostages. After each incursion, the Krus must rebuild their village, and since they lose the fruit of their harvest, they find themselves feeding on snails, bush rats and slugs. When they can, they eat bush cows (hippos) to fill their diet.

A few days after Margol and Prince Kaboo had built their altar, a cry was heard in the distance: "The Grebos are coming!"

ADVENTURER MININSTRY 4

Like any child in the village, Prince Kaboo knew what to do: run. With the children of the village, he ran as fast as his legs could carry him, crossed the river then climbed a large tree to settle on the highest branch.

From afar Prince Kaboo saw the warriors of his village defending their property. Then after what seemed like hours, he saw the smoke from a fire coming from the direction of his village. He then knew that the Grebos had left after setting his village on fire. Neither the gods nor the spirits had protected the village and its villagers. Prince Kaboo began to question the existence of these deities who supposedly protected them.

Years later, at the age of fifteen, Prince Kaboo had become a man. His father was training him so that he could one day take over. Very early one morning, Chief Kaboo was looking at his son in puzzlement. When he got close to his son, he stood in silence for a while and then said, "What do you hear? "

The prince listened attentively. All he heard were the daily noises of the morning, the singing birds, the women preparing the day, a few men talking ... "I don't hear anything father." He confided to his father.

"Silence!" Said the chief firmly. The whole tribe fell silent at the command of the chief. Faint sounds of drums rang out in the distance. The Grebos! This time the Grebos had convinced the neighboring tribes to join them to fight the Krus. They had lied to the neighboring tribes, making them believe that the Krus were preparing to attack them.

Without delay, the men took up their arms and the women led the children across the river.

This time, Prince Kaboo, considered a man, also took up his arms and fought the enemy with all his might. Unfortunately, the enemy was more numerous. The chief, not wishing to see his whole tribe perish, surrendered his arms and bowed before the conquerors.

The chief of the Grebos took captive the son of the chief, prince Kaboo as well as all the harvest of the village. "You will have to pay a ransom every new moon if you want to find your son."

Despite his fear, Prince Kaboo trusted that his father would redeem his freedom.

- End of Part 1 -

A knot (word from an Adventurer) (10 min) Jeremiah, the prophet, said in Jeremiah 29.14, "I will be found of you, saith the LORD: and I will turn away your captivity." Prince Kaboo is taken hostage. He is separated from his father, mother and little sister Yout. But don't be afraid Adventurer, God has a very special plan for the little prince.

Tomorrow and the following evenings, you will see God's plan for the Krus and how attached God is to His children. Speaking of attachment, tell me Adventurer, can you tie a knot? I'm going to show you a knot. (Make a simple knot).

With a ball of wool, I can do many things. Tie a knot on a gift for you. Freely fly a kite, tie a star to a tree. I can tie a scarf. I can even do a craft for you.

Twist, braid, wind, tie and bind things but there are some things that a string can't do.

The rope cannot repair a broken heart. Mend a friendship, when its torn apart. I cannot tie fear or unwind doubt. In the end, a rope is useless when it comes to me and you.

Why talk about the rope? A rope is a set of strands braided together to form a more robust material that can be used for several purposes. God's family is like a rope.

ADVENTURER MININSTRY 5

It is made up of several strands (members) united to accomplish a goal.

For each of us family is an essential part of God's plan for humans. It was not an after thought. Genesis 1.26-28: "26And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 27So God created man in his [own] image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. 28And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth."

The concept of human connection was first understood and reflected in the relationship between Adam and Eve. They were the first couple the Bible tells us about and they founded the first family.

"God blesses the family and intends that its members shall assist each other toward complete maturity. Parents are to bring up their children to love and obey the Lord. By their example and their words they are to teach them that Christ is a loving disciplinarian, ever tender and caring, who wants them to become members of His body, the family of God." (SDA Fundamental Belief Numbers. 22) Ellen G. White, one of the founders of the Church, states that: "The restoration and upliftment of humanity begins with the family, that is, with the work of parents. Society is made up of the restoration and uplifting of humanity begins in the home. The work of parents underlies every other. Society is composed of families and is what the heads of families make it. Out of the heart are "the issues of life" (Proverbs 4:23); and the heart of the community, of the church, and of the nation is the household. The well-being of society, the success of the church, the prosperity of the nation, depend upon home influences." (The Ministry of Healing, chapter 28).

The health and prosperity of society are directly related to the well-being of its various constituent parts: family unity. The family is not only a cornerstone of society, it is the foundation of society.

This week we are going to explore various families and see that God has a plan for each of them. You know Adventurer, God also has a plan for you and your family.

Blest be the tie that binds (5 min)

Time for Prayer (5 min) Ask the congregation to spend at least five minutes in prayer. At the end of the 5 minutes, ask an Adventurer and their Parent to do the closing prayer. Adventurer’s Prayer: Dear Jesus, I’m so thankful for my family. I love them so much and I want us to be happy. Here’s the promise I’m claiming for us in Ephesians 5:2 “And walk in love, [esteeming and delighting in one another] as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.” I want that so much. Please Jesus help us not to argue and put each other down. Please live in our home – and in our hearts – so that we will be like You. Amen.

Father I adore You (5 min)

Closing words (5 min) Thank you for attending the first evening of Adventurer's Voice. In your booklet, you find a Jigsaw puzzle. Every night you will a piece of the puzzle. We are waiting for you tomorrow night to continue our adventure with our families. We are waiting for you tomorrow night. Bring a friend!

2nd night – A Family

Welcome (5 min) Good evening, welcome to our second night of our week of prayer. I hope you have a good day under the protection of God. We are here Adventurers to spend a moment of our time in Prayer with our family and friends. I hope that the time we spend together can be beneficial for all.

Opening song (5 min) Invite the church to stand and sing a song of circumstance or ask an Adventurer to sing a special song or a musical piece.

Scripture reading (5 min) Acts 16.31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

Prayer (5 min) Ask an Adventurer or a parent to do the opening prayer.

His adopted child (Story - optional) (10 min)

When we left Prince Kaboo, he had become a captive of the chief of the Grebos. With each new moon, his father had to pay the Grebo tribe a ransom to be able to recover his son.

Hands tied, Prince Kaboo was thrown into a hut where there were other hostages. Nobody spoke. No one was looking at his neighbor, all heads were lowered. For some, hope was gone… they no longer believed they were going to return to the peaceful village. However, Prince Kaboo kept hope: his father would pay the ransom.

On the set date, the Grebo chief went to a field near the tribe of the Krus with his army. Prince Kaboo stood straight, his hands tied, between two Grebos warriors. He saw his father walking far away with baskets.

"What! Yelled the Grebo chief. "You dare come to me with crumbs. Go home! if you want to see your son alive again, come back to the next moon with better loot”.

The Grebo chief, despite his remarks, took the baskets filled with the Krus harvest and left with his hostage.

Month after month, history repeated itself: the Grebo chief kept the prince and asked for more from the Krus. After one of these exchanges, the Grebo chief began to drink rum and, in his intoxication, ordered that the prince be beaten. He let one of the hostages go free, telling him to testify to the chief of the Krus of his cruelty towards the Prince Kaboo.

At the next meeting, Chief Kaboo came with all the last treasures of his people: the last rice reserves; their ivory, kola nuts and rubber. Chief Kaboo was so desperate that he offered the king to take his daughter in exchange for his son.

"No!" Screamed Kaboo! "No! I am a prince. Don't do such a thing. I can endure torture more than my sister. I am strong. I can survive."

Without knowing it, Prince Kaboo had acted like another prince who gave himself in ransom to save, not the life of a person but of all humanity.

ADVENTURER MININSTRY 8

Chief Kaboo looked his son straight in the eye, then picked up his daughter.

"What am I going to do with this girl who would be of no use to me!" Said the chief of the Grebos. "Get out of my sight." You better come up with something better next time.”

The Grebo chief redoubled in his cruelty towards the prince and forced him to work hard in the fields. The prince was in pain, he was weak and had several untreated wounds. "I am going to die," he thought.

The Grebo chief was so angry that he ordered Kaboo to be tied to a makeshift cross. All day long, under the scorching sun, the prince watched men dig a hole. "I will die. They're going to put me in this hole” thought the prince.

It was a Friday, the Grebo chief was drunk, he ordered the release of one of the Krus hostages to testify how Prince Kaboo was going to die as a result of Chief Kaboo's affront.

It was a Friday. The prince was weak, malnourished, hungry, covered with wounds, he knew he was going to die.

"Look at your grave," snickered the Grebos. They untied the prince and, in his anger, the chief ordered that the prince be thrown into the hole.

It was a Friday. Suddenly a bright light coming from nowhere, the glare blinding all the Grebos then a voice resounding like lightning was heard: "Kaboo, get up! Get up Kaboo and run away, run!"

Instantly, everything holding Kaboo was gone and then he ran. Kaboo obeyed and he started to run. He ran as fast as an antelope. Kaboo was running, not knowing where he was going. At each step, he wondered, "Who is this voice? Where did this light come from? " In its course, the light accompanied him, guiding him. Kaboo had never heard of Jesus Christ, who like him was given a ransom.

End of part 2 -

A Family (word from an Adventurer) (10 min) There are several types of families. Tonight, we are going to explore some families. Below are some examples of how certain families of our time are made up.

 Nuclear families - with Mom, Dad and children who were born to the same mother and the same father. This type of family was established by God at creation. Genesis 1:27-28 27So God created man in his [own] image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. 28And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth...

 Blended families - sometimes it is called a mixed family. Blended families are formed when parents divorce or are widowed and remarry. Some become blended families when a single parent marries someone who is not the father or mother of their son / daughter.

ADVENTURER MININSTRY 9

2 Corinthians 6:18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

 Singles are also a family: sometimes there are people who live alone. They may be divorced, widowed, or have never been married; but the home is a separate entity. Luke 2:36-37 36And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity; 37And she [was] a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served [God] with fasting and prayers night and day.

 Families are single parents - This can happen when a parent is divorced or widowed and has not remarried, or a mother (or father) has never married. 1 Kings 17:12-15 12And she said, [As] the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I [am] gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die. 13And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go [and] do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring [it] unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son. 14For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day [that] the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth. 15And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat [many] days.

 Families are empty nest families - this family type corresponds to a situation where children are adults and leave the house leaving the parents alone at home.

ADVENTURER MININSTRY 10

 Families are reattached - When adult children return to live with parents - usually a temporary arrangement. A family is re-attached when an older parent lives with the family of a son, daughter or grandchild.

Families are a part of the family of God. Many consider the members of their congregation to be family and they may feel closer ties to them than those who are linked to them by birth or marriage.

Blest be the tie that binds (5 min)

Time for Prayer (5 min) Ask the congregation to spend at least five minutes in prayer. At the end of the 5 minutes, ask an Adventurer and a Parent to do the closing prayer. Adventurer’s Prayer: Dear Jesus, thank you for being with me today. Forgive my sins and help me to be kind to others. Bless my family and friends. Help me to always keep You in my heart and to be willing to share Your love wherever I go. I ask You please to send Your angels to watch over me when I sleep as You said in Psalm 91.11 " For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.". I pray that You'll give me a good night's rest and have good dreams. Thank you, Jesus, for loving me so much. Amen.

Father I adore You (5 min)

Closing words (5 min) Thank you for coming once again to the Adventurer’s Voice. We will be waiting for you tomorrow night to continue with our week of prayer. See you tomorrow. Bring a friend!

ADVENTURER MININSTRY 12

3rd night – What Does the Bible Say? Welcome (5 min) Dear Adventurers, dear parents, good evening and welcome to the Adventurer's Voice. It is a great pleasure for me to be among you and spend these few moments discovering the splendor of God through prayer.

Opening song (5 min) Invite the church to stand and sing a song of circumstance or ask an Adventurer to sing a special song or a musical piece.

Scripture reading (5 min) Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Prayer (5 min) Ask an Adventurer or a parent to do the opening prayer.

His adopted child (Story - optional) (10 min) Prince Kaboo managed to put a great distance between him and the village of the Grebos. He knew he could not return to his village because it would endanger the lives of his family and his clan. On his run, he found limes. He used the juice from these fruits to heal his wounds. He fed on berries which he gleaned along the way and slugs which he found under rocks. So he walked continuously along the river, jumping from stone to stone. He was afraid to walk in the bush where the branches would whip him and increase his wounds. At all times he was on his guard: not only should he be on guard against the Grebos, he feared wild animals and above all, he had to care about cannibals.

A few weeks passed without him having contact with other individuals. At first, he hid when he heard people. When he felt more confident, he passed people without talking to them. No one seemed to notice. Early one morning he encountered civilization. He had never seen a city. Everything was so different from his village. Even people spoke in a language he did not understand. He heard a familiar sound from afar. Something he hadn't heard in a long time: it was music. He walked over to that sound. In a field there were people who harvested small brown fruits. He did not understand why people put the fruit in their basket without eating it. As he watched people in their activity, Prince Kaboo recognized a familiar face. "A nuane, a nuane" he shouted. Immediately, a young boy dropped his basket and then ran to the prince. "Prince Kaboo!" "Locust! Locust! I thought you were lost!" Said the prince. "After the Grebos captured me one day I found the opportunity to flee and then the people of this town found me, treated me and then gave me this job. I harvest coffee beans. By the way, my name is not Locust here. I am now Nathan Strong. It’s my Christian name. Come on, I'll introduce you to my boss, Mr. Davis. He may allow you to work for him. We work in the fields six days a week.”

"A Christian?" wondered the prince. "What is a Christian?"

Mr. Davis agreed to take in Prince Kaboo. He gave him clothes, a bed in the workers' dorm and a job. Mr. Davis' wife taught the young prince English. During the free day, Kaboo accompanied Nathan to church seeking to find out what a Christian was. At first Nathan translated what was said into the Nigrite language.

ADVENTURER MININSTRY 13

After a while, Kaboo adapted to his new life and learned to speak in English. He met a missionary named Anna Kroll and started to study the bible with her. One day she told him about Saul's conversion, how he met Jesus on the way to Damascus. "This light! This light! This voice!" Shouted Kaboo. "Me too! I too have seen and heard it!" Exclaimed Kaboo.

- End of part 3 -

What does the Bible Say? (word from an Adventurer) (10 min) What does the Bible teach me about families?

First, the Bible tells me that when God founded the earth and the heavens, he established the first family: Adam and Eve. Genesis 1:27, 28 27So God created man in his [own] image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. 28And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

God created man and woman. Their purpose was to procreate (have children) and to dominate on earth. Unfortunately, the man and the woman disobeyed God and were removed from the Garden of Eden.

Disobedience, what is called sin, brought on this earth misery, suffering. But God had a plan to save his people, to save families.

Step 1: Establish a model family. There was a man named. Abram. One day God calls on Abram. Here is what God said to Abram in Genesis 12, verses 1 to 5: 1Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee: 2And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: 3And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. 4So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram [was] seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran. 5And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother’s son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.

We see in the books of Genesis up to Malachi the ups and downs of this family. You can read about the successes and failures of the children of Abram, whose name God changed to Abraham.

The purpose of this family was to demonstrate God's love for humanity. Abraham's descendants are called the Israelites. The Israelites built, according to the order of God, a temple (a church) for all families "Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer" Isaiah 56:7.

We see that people from other nations have chosen to be part of the family of God. Take for example Ruth who said to her mother-in-law Naomi “I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people [shall be] my people, and thy God my God" Ruth 1:16.

Step 2: Jesus The first step was not complete, it was not perfect. The history of the people of Israel shows that the Israelites had lost the primary mission that God had given them. In verse 3 of Genesis, we read that God had told Abram that "all the families of the earth will be blessed in you". Yes, it is true that some people became attached to the people whom God had chosen, but they became suspicious of strangers. How then can all the families of the earth be part of the family of God?

ADVENTURER MININSTRY 14

The apostle Paul gives us the answer in his letter to the Galatians. Paul tells us that we are part of his family through Jesus Christ. "And if ye [be] Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise." Galatians 3:29.

The Bible teaches us that today those who believe and follow Jesus are members of the same family. How? By his death on the cross, Jesus took our place, our sins, he takes them and erases them so that we can live with God, not in a garden but in heaven. 2 Co 5:18,19,21 18And all things [are] of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; 19To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. 21For he hath made him [to be] sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

The Bible teaches us that through Jesus, we are brothers and sisters. Through Jesus, we are a family.

Blest be the tie that binds (5 min)

Time for Prayer (5 min) The congregation spends at least five minutes in prayer. At the end of the 5 minutes, ask an Adventurer and a Parent to do the closing prayer. Adventurer’s Prayer: Dear Jesus, I’m so glad I can pray to You any time and anywhere I want. Help me to remember to talk to You not just when I’m in trouble or when I want something but help me to pray for others too. You are so awesome and I want to thank You for always being there for me! I claim Your promise in Proverbs 15:8 “The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, but the prayer of the upright is His delight.” Please keep me “upright” because I want to please You too! Thank You for hearing and answering my prayers, and for being my best Friend. I love You so much. Amen.

Father I adore You (5 min)

Closing words (5 min) Thank you for coming once again to the Adventurer’s Voice. We will be waiting for you tomorrow night to continue with our week of prayer. See you tomorrow. Bring a friend!

4th night – Another Family

Welcome (5 min) Good evening dear Adventurers, dear parents good evening and welcome to this fourth evening of Adventurer's Voice. Prayer is a precious resource for the believer in all the circumstances of his stay on earth. I wish you a good evening in prayer.

Opening song (5 min) Invite the church to stand and sing a song of circumstance or ask an Adventurer to sing a special song or a musical piece.

Scripture reading (5 min) Romans 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

Prayer (5 min) Ask an Adventurer or a parent to do the opening prayer.

His adopted child (Story - optional) (10 min) "This light! This light! This voice!" Shouted Kaboo. "Me too! I too have seen and heard it!" Exclaimed Kaboo. "Now I know who delivered me and saved my life. It was Jesus! Miss Kroll, tell me about Jesus. Tell me everything".

Miss Kroll spoke to him about how God had given His son as a ransom and how His blood was used as payment for the redemption of mankind. Sons and daughters are reconciled to their Father who is in heaven because of the price paid.

"For a while, I thought I was an orphan. But God came, Himself, and made me his child. Yes, I believe in Jesus." recognized Kaboo. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior without hesitation. The prince did not know that God performed all kinds of miracles through the Holy Spirit.

"Like the boy in the bible, Samuel, God speak to me," Kaboo thought. Samuel, that will be my new name from now on. "But how can I serve this living God?" Kaboo wondered.

For an entire night he began to pray in the woods. He prayed until midnight and then returned to the dorm room. It was still dark and his roommates were still asleep.

Suddenly the room was illuminated with glorious light. At that moment, Kaboo's worries dissipated; his worries turned to joy. He felt as light as a feather, his burdens were removed. "Blessed be the Lord!" He started to shout. He jumped from his bed and began to give glory to God, thus awakening all his companions. "Silence Samuel!" Said one. "Go back to bed" said another. They did not understand that God had revealed himself to Samuel. "It was my adoption." He said to Miss Kroll the next day. "God made me his own son."

From then on Samuel became a witness for Christ. He wanted to know all about this wonderful Savior. Miss MacNeil, another missionary, spoke to him about the Holy Spirit, the Comforter whom God sends to guide His children. Samuel was thirsty to know everything about the Holy Spirit.

ADVENTURER MININSTRY 17

“The scriptures teach us that the Holy Spirit is the one who teaches us and we are guided by Him. It’s the Holy Spirit that reveals the Word of God to those who believe. He's the one who reveals Jesus. Whoever taught me this," said Miss MacNeil, "is a man by the name of Stephen Merritt, the secretary of a pastor. I met him in New York before I took the boat to come here to Africa." "I want to meet Stephen Merritt. He will also teach me everything I need to know about the Holy Spirit." "You will have to work very hard and save all your money" advised his friend Nathan. "I'm going to New York and meet Stephen Merritt," replied Samuel stubbornly.

- End of part 4 -

Another family (word from an Adventurer) (10 min) A man asked his son, "Son, for you, what is a family?" The son thought for a while then responded to his father: "A family is when a man and a woman get married; have children; live happily then they die." As the father thought about the answer his son provided, the son spoke up again and said, "However, dad, that's not quite it, is it? There are families who do not stay together. The parents break their promise and then they separate."

Adventurer, sad to say, but some Adventurers live either with their mother, with their father or in shared custody because their parents no longer live together.

Divorce affects the lives of children. For a child, like parents, divorce leaves deep wounds and scars which, if left untreated, will affect all future relationships.

Unfortunately, we live in a world where sin exists. Everything in this world is changing. And the changes are constant.

Adventurer, through everything you live, remember Numbers 23:19. No matter what you live, you can count on God. Why? Because God does not change. God is constant and faithful. Deuteronomy 32:4b “a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right [is] he"

His love for children, for parents who pass through these trials does not change. “The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, [saying,] Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee." (Jeremiah 31:3).

Why do some parents separate or divorce? When parents separate, it's not the children's fault. People get married for a variety of reasons. Sometimes even for the wrong reasons. Some people think that marriage is based on feelings and when the feelings are no longer there, they are confused and renounce their vow of marriage. Some others think that they must be constantly happy and when they are no longer happy, they decide to leave to find someone else who will make them happy. Love is more than a feeling; it is a decision. A marriage based only on feelings does not work because feelings are fleeting (they do not last long).

Love is something we do, whether the feelings are there or not.

Another reason why couples separate is because the relationship becomes dangerous either because of drugs, alcohol, abuse, or psychological problems. Sometimes separation is the only way to survive.

Behind every broken home is a sad situation.

An Adventurer in a family where there has been a separation or a divorce is a child of God. God loves him and He also loves his parents.

This family may be different from yours or you may be living in such a family. Admittedly this does not correspond to God's plan for families but nevertheless it does happen. The dynamics of such a family are different but it is still a family and God has a plan for its restoration.

ADVENTURER MININSTRY 18

The good news is that God can turn all bad decisions or unpleasant circumstances into a blessing. This is called redemption. That’s why Jesus died on the cross. It is thanks to the cross that God brings us back to him.

Number 23:19 God [is] not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do [it?] or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

Corinthians 12:9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Blest be the tie that binds (5 min)

Time for Prayer (5 min) Ask the congregation to spend at least five minutes in prayer. At the end of the 5 minutes, ask an Adventurer and a Parent to do the closing prayer. Adventurer’s Prayer: Dear Jesus, I love You and I want my friends and neighbors to love You too. I know I can share You by being kind and good like You are. But I would also like to tell them about You. I’m kind of scared to do this because I don’t know what to say. That’s why I’m claiming Your promise in Jeremiah 33:3, “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” Thank You Jesus for promising to give me “great and mighty” answers so I can be a better witness for You. Amen.

Closing words (5 min) Thank you for coming once again to the Adventurer’s Voice. We will be waiting for you tomorrow night to continue with our week of prayer. See you tomorrow. Bring a friend!

5th night – Object Lesson

Welcome (5 min) Good evening dear adventurers, dear parents good evening and welcome to this fifth evening of Adventurer's Voice. Prayer must be like a breath, it must be natural. We are almost at the end of our week of prayer. I invite you to continue praying for each other and I hope that tonight we will learn a little more about prayer.

Opening song (5 min) Invite the church to stand and sing a song of circumstance or ask an Adventurer to sing a special song or a musical piece.

Scripture reading (5 min) 3 John 1:5 (English Standard Version) Beloved, it is a faithful thing you do in all your efforts for these brothers, strangers as they are

Prayer (5 min) Ask an Adventurer or a parent to do the opening prayer.

His adopted child (Story - optional) (10 min) "I'm going to New York to meet Stephen Merritt and it's not going to cost me a penny. Stephen Merritt will tell me about the Holy Spirit. Once I know the Holy Spirit, He will give me strength to testify of God to my people. Finally, they will know the true God. The God of the living. God will take care of me and my journey,” said Samuel. So he went to the port in search of a ship. "Lord allow me to find a boat going to New York please," prayed Samuel. God answered his prayer. He found a ship that was going to leave in a day or two for New York.

Seeing the captain descend from the ship to take care of the last details before his departure, Samuel went to the captain and said to him: "Excuse me sir, my Father in Heaven has told me that you are going to take me to America in your ship to meet Stephen Merritt." "Get out of my way, good for nothing!" Shouted the captain. Samuel watched the captain leave but he held on and stayed put. When evening came, the captain returned to his ship and Samuel called out to him: "Please sir. I want to go to New York to meet Stephen Merritt." The captain insulted him, pushed him, then left in the direction of the boat warning Samuel not to get in his way.

For two days, Samuel kept his post, without eating or drinking. He helped the sailors to load the cargo on the boat. He did everything to make himself useful.

"My Father told me that this time you are going to take me on your ship," Samuel said to the captain. Two of the sailors had fled the day before, and the captain, seeing that he was in trouble, agreed to take the African lad on board, warning him that if he fell ill he would throw him overboard. "I just want to go to New York to meet Stephen Merritt. I won't give you a problem. I would not be sick. I'm not asking for any money" replied Samuel.

"Okay," replied the captain.

Life on the ship was difficult. The sailors were vulgar and violent men. Samuel, ignored their attitude. He remained at peace. He faced any insult with patience and grace. Samuel was working hard on the bridge. One day there was a storm. A terrible storm. Samuel fell ill.

ADVENTURER MININSTRY 21

Immediately he began to pray "Lord, I told the captain that I would not be sick. Help me." He got up immediately and went back to work. One of the sailors who liked Samuel and who respected his faith in God proposed that they exchange jobs because he feared that Samuel would not last long on deck. Samuel then became the captain's chambermaid: he had to make sure the captain had everything he needed and that all of his things were in order.

When the captain was drunk, Samuel took care of him. Even when the captain beat him, Samuel forgave him and continued his tasks. He constantly sang hymns. One evening, entering his cabin, the captain watched Samuel do the cleaning. For the first time, he noticed that his cabin was clean and spotless. He never could have believed it was possible. There was so much grime that the windows were brown. But under Samuel's management, his cabin was like new. He listened to the song and recognized the tune: it was a song his mother sang when he was a child. He questioned Samuel who at the end of their interview simply asked if he wanted to pray with him. The captain agreed.

It was the beginning.

There was a sailor on board who hated Samuel. He didn't like him just because Samuel was black. He wanted to kill Samuel. One day, after an attack by pirates, this man was seriously injured. Samuel took care of him and all those injured in the confrontation. He attended to the wounds of the sailors, prayed for them then watched over the sailors. When the sailor who hated Samuel recovered, he became Samuel's most loyal friend.

Life on the boat changed completely. The influence of the Lord changed the atmosphere on board the boat. Several sailors accepted Jesus as their Savior. On the boat, Samuel was the only black man and all the sailors came from different nations. At the start of the trip, they were all rough men, drinkers, strangers. But God had placed Samuel in their way. After about six months of traveling, God had broken down racial barriers. They were changed men; they had become brothers.

"Earth!" Shouted a sailor. "New York! We have arrived in New York!"

Object lesson (word from an Adventurer) (10 min)

30 wooden sticks 3 elastics

In advance, bind 29 wooden sticks with the three rubber bands.

The Bible teaches us in Ecclesiastes 4:9, 12 “Two [are] better than one [...] And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken."

Take this stick. (Ask an Adventurer to come forward and try to break it in half.) You see, the stick brakes easily. Now take these sticks. (Ask a parent to come forward and try to break the tied sticks). This time it’s not as easy to break all these sticks is it!?

This block of sticks represents a family unit. The elastic bands around them represent: 1: God's love that protects the family; 2: The bonds which unite the members of the family; the love we have for each other; 3: The Holy Spirit that keeps us together.

This is what Ecclesiastes explains to us. One person cannot resist the enemy. When the worries of this world come, they can fall apart or break easily. This is not so with a family. That’s why we need a family. When someone is alone, the church becomes his family. When we are many, when God is the one who unites us, we are strong.

ADVENTURER MININSTRY 22

Snakes and ladders (game)

The family of God works for one purpose, that of uniting so that one day we meet Jesus and live with Him in the abode that He is preparing for us.

Do you see this game (Show board game)? There is a starting point and then a point of arriving. This last point is often referred to as "home". When we reach this stage, we win. We are at home, safe.

Family members are like the pawns on this board. They meet successes (our pawn advances). They live failures (our pawn moves back). But all the pawns have the same goal. With persistence, everyone must arrive at home.

"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." Jesus tells us in John 14:6.

Beloved Adventurers, God is there to protect our family. A family as we have seen consists not only of a father, a mother and their children but also of members of a church. The bonds that unite us is the love that we share with one another as well as the love that unites us with God. God only has one wish, that we all come home.

Blessed be the tie that binds our hearts in Christian love!

Blest be the tie that binds (5 min)

Time for Prayer (5 min) Ask the congregation to spend at least five minutes in prayer. At the end of the 5 minutes, ask an Adventurer and a Parent to do the closing prayer. Adventurer’s Prayer: Dear Jesus, thank you for the promise that I can live with You forever. When I feel that no one cares about me, I repeat what You said in John 14:2,3 “My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am." Then I feel special knowing that You are doing all of this for me. Amen.

6th night – God’s Family

Welcome (5 min) Good evening and welcome to our last evening of prayer. I hope you learned how to pray, why to pray, and that you are confident that God hears and answers our prayers. Tonight, we will learn one more thing about prayer. There is much more to learn and your parents can give you more information.

Opening song (5 min) Invite the church to stand and sing a song of circumstance or ask an Adventurer to sing a special song or a musical piece.

Scripture reading (5 min) Galatians 3:8 And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, [saying,] In thee shall all nations be blessed.

Prayer (5 min) Ask an Adventurer or a parent to do the opening prayer.

His adopted child (Story - optional) (10 min) It was a Friday. Samuel had received his deliverance on a Friday. God rescued him from the Grebos on a Friday.

Similarly, it was on a Friday that the boat docked at the port of the East river in New York. Tears in his eyes, Samuel shook hands with each of his brothers before finding Stephen Merritt. Before leaving, each of the sailors insisted on giving Samuel a gift: one gave him a coat, another gave him pants, another gave him shoes ...

It was with a heavy heart that the sailors let go the one who had introduced them to Jesus Christ.

In New York, Samuel was sure that God was going to lead him to Stephen Merritt. He met a homeless man and asked him: "Sorry, sir, do you know where I can find Stephen Merritt?" "For a dollar, I'll take you to him," replied the man. "No problem," replied Samuel, who had no money in his pocket. The man led him to a shelter for the homeless. "There," he pointed out. "This is where you will find Merritt. There he comes out right now."

Samuel ran to Mr. Merritt. "Mister Merritt! I'm Samuel Morris. I just came from Africa because I want you to teach me what you know about the Holy Spirit " "Hey, young man!" Shouted the homeless man. "My money ".

Samuel looked at the homeless man and replied, "Sure. Mr. Merritt will give you your dollar."

Intrigued and amused by the candor of young Samuel, Stephen Merritt gave the homeless man the dollar and then invited Samuel to have a meal in the shelter while he went to an appointment. When he returned to the shelter late in the evening after his appointment, he found Samuel on his knees surrounded by about twenty men kneeling beside him, crying and confessing their sin. In one evening, after telling homeless people how he had met Jesus and how God had guided him to New York, Samuel had taken these men to meet Jesus.

ADVENTURER MININSTRY 25

Some of these men had attended the shelter for years and attended the many sermons that followed the meals without ever making the decision to follow Jesus. Merritt was surprised by this young African.

Mr. Merritt taught Samuel what he knew about the Holy Spirit. He recognized in Samuel, someone who was chosen by God and he therefore decided to help Samuel to enter a college in order to deepen his biblical knowledge to become a missionary for the Krus.

Samuel was about 18 years old when he arrived in America. Two years after meeting Stephen Merritt at the age of 21, Samuel Morris died of pneumonia.

The story of Samuel is a story of miracles and wonders. But each of us can say the same: our life is a life of wonder because we have a Savior who gave his life to make us his brothers and sisters. It’s a miracle of grace when we hear the voice of the Lord speaking to us through the scriptures.

Prince Kaboo was torn from his earthly family: he lost his father King Kaboo. But God came down Himself to become his father. A Father who will never abandon him nor forsake him.

- End of the story -

God’s family (word from an Adventurer) (10 min) Earlier this week, we have learned that "God blesses the family and intends that its members shall assist each other toward complete maturity. Parents are to bring up their children to love and obey the Lord. By their example and their words they are to teach them that Christ is a loving disciplinarian, ever tender and caring, who wants them to become members of His body, the family of God." (SDA Fundamental Belief No. 22) Ellen G. White, one of the founders of the Church, states that: "The restoration and upliftment of humanity begins with the family, that is, with the work of parents. Society is made up of the restoration and uplifting of humanity which begins in the home. The work of parents underlies every other. Society is composed of families, and is what the heads of families make it. Out of the heart are "the issues of life" (Proverbs 4:23); and the heart of the community, of the church, and of the nation is the household. The well-being of society, the success of the church, the prosperity of the nation, depend upon home influences." (The Ministry of Healing, chapter 28).

Life in the house of God should bring the members of the household together, because in these two cases the same principles are at work: principles of love, humility, disinterestedness and concern for others. The cross of Christ removes the barriers that separate people from each other.

Genesis 33:12-14 and Exodus 2:1-10 tell us about parents' commitment to children. Genesis 33:12-14 12And he said, Let us take our journey, and let us go, and I will go before thee. 13And he said unto him, My lord knoweth that the children [are] tender, and the flocks and herds with young [are] with me: and if men should overdrive them one day, all the flock will die. 14 Let my lord, I pray thee, pass over before his servant: and I will lead on softly, according as the cattle that goeth before me and the children be able to endure, until I come unto my lord unto Seir.

The parent-child relationship is the very expression of the covenant relationship with God. On Mount Carmel, Elijah longed for members of his nation to renew their covenant and rediscover the faith of their fathers, bringing healing to their lives, their homes and their country. Elijah’s message is a plea to families inviting them to believe this amazing good news: that the Heavenly Father brings the hearts of his children to him and to each other by the cross of Christ.

The world is in desperate need of selfless concern, enduring commitment and unwavering fervor towards God. It is by the grace of the latter that our Christian families will succeed.

Through Jesus, we are part of the heavenly family. (Ep 3:13-15 "Wherefore I desire that ye faint not at my tribulations for you, which is your glory. For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named")

ADVENTURER MININSTRY 26

Also, whether we are a family of one person or more, we are called to bear witness to the God we claim to serve.

Blest be the tie that binds (5 min)

Time for Prayer (5 min) The congregation spends at least five minutes in prayer. At the end of the 5 minutes, an Adventurer and a Parent do the closing prayer. Adventurer’s Prayer: Dear Jesus, help me to love the Sabbath and enjoy worshipping You. Sometimes I forget how special Your day is and I just want it to be over with so I can do my own thing. But I know that’s not right and I don’t want to miss Your special blessing You promise in Isaiah 56:2 “Blessed is the man [kid]… who keeps from defiling the Sabbath, and keeps his hand from doing any evil.” Help me to only do good things on Your Sabbath day, and please help me to love the Sabbath so much that I’m always looking forward to spending this special day with You. Amen.

Father I adore You (5 min)

Closing words (5 min) Thank you for coming to our last night of the Adventurer’s Voice. Tomorrow is Adventurer's day! Together we will rejoice in the Lord with our families, the church and all the angels. So tomorrow, we will see each other in our type A uniform. Bring a friend!
