This include: supplemental resource follows evidenced-based research and was carefully crafted in order to build a solid foundation for early literacy. consonant review This supplement uses a systematic and explicit approach to instruction so that all students can gain the foundational skills double letter spellings for necessary to become proficient readers. consonant sounds Each unit includes important information in the introduction and encoding suffixes appendix sections. Student reader and workbook Consonant Code Flipbooks & Individual Code Charts Unit Length: 22 days+ White & yellow index cards (unruled) Unit 1 contains 5 days of introduction, 5 days of assessment, eleven Green & red markers for days of review lessons, and one day of final assessment. Second Grade Course Outline Unit Concepts Focus Foundational Skills 1 Unit 1 focuses on review of first grade phonics patterns through spelling. Students Phonological review “tricky words” for two syllable patterns, with the spelling of ‘c’, and past -tense awareness ‘ed’ words. Students review the complexity of vowel sounds and spellings and Phonemic multiple consonant spellings and diagraph spellings from grade 1. This section also awareness includes a placement analysis for beginning second graders. Students practice Phonics phonics skills through chaining, dictation, and whole-group reading practice. Fluency Decodables are used daily to reinforce the spellings and “tricky words” discussed in class during previous lessons. It is recommended that students practice decodable skills with partner reading. 2 Unit 2 focuses on phonics skills with an emphasis on vowel sounds, two-syllable Phonological words, contractions, recognizing high-frequency “tricky words,” and learning awareness grammar applications for effective
