At the time of the Officer site visit the characteristics of the site vary within the site with the eastern area of the site being less manicured that the land immediately to the rear of the dwellings. The site is within the urban boundary of Southwell as defined by the Proposals Map of the Allocations and Development Management DPD. The site is also within the designated Conservation Area Southwell Protected Views Zone (So/PV). The Potwell Dyke shares the north eastern boundary of the site. There is a public right of way along the vehicular access to the site which then follows the southern boundary of the site.

The site is gently undulating and rounded, resulting in views being medium to long distance throughout most of the area with frequent wooded skylines. The southern portion of the site is located to the north of and within the parish of Halloughton. This section of the site comprises five large linear fields with boundaries at their edge, including copses at the western and part of the southern boundary. Overhead electricity lines and pylons cross this parcel in an east-west direction. The built-up area of Halloughton lies close to the southern boundary of the parcel and the A612 forms part of the eastern boundary. Agricultural land surrounds the parcel in other directions.

Having reviewed the information members expressed the following concerns and asked that they be submitted: a) Balderton could not afford to lose a District Councillor as it is a very busy, heavily populated village. b) Balderton should retain four District members, particularly with the imminent amount of residential development to take place in the village resulting from the agreed Newark Growth Point. c) The confusion should be removed for parishioners on Staple Lane because one half of the properties along Staple Lane are in Fernwood Ward and one half are in Balderton Ward for County Council purposes, but the whole of Staple Lane residents are included within the Balderton District and Parish Wards. The parish map boundary includes Staple Lane properties, so for the sake of the few houses concerned they should all be included in the County’s Balderton Ward.     BLEASBY NEWS We were here in the 1940s! AUGUST 2018 WELCOME TO THE AUGUST EDITION OF BLEASBY NEWS Once again Bleasby is pulling out all the stops to hold a great event. Before our next edition of Bleasby News we will have experienced the dedication of the Aircrews Memorial. The creation and realisation of the memorial is a phenomenal feat and we have to thank Ken Ogilvie for his persistence in seeing through this project from fairly small beginnings to what is now a truly amazing memorial. The thanksgiving and dedication event will be a very special culmination of much work and all those involved in any way in this momentous venture should be very proud of their achievements. We hope that as many Bleasby people as possible will come along to the Glebe Field on 1st September to witness the dedication and to welcome our guests, some of which are coming from as far afield as Australia and Canada to honour their relatives. More about the memorial and its dedication on page 7. Our cover picture is of Beverley Wright and his sisters and brother standing outside Forge Cottage, which became their family home. Beverley was a resident of Bleasby for much of his life until moving to Southwell a few years ago. He remembers the air- crash which happened in the vicinity of the current school. Let us make the next edition of Bleasby News a very special one to reflect the events of 1st September! So please – your thoughts, photos, etc on the Memorial Dedication Day.
