Microsoft Outlook Everything We Know About "Toy Story 4" Grab your tissues, it's about to get emotional. By Carolyn Twersky, Tamara Fuentes And Jasmine Gomez APR 4, 2019 CLAIRE R GREENWAYGETTY IMAGES The end of Toy Story 3 definitely seemed like the end of the franchise. In case you need a refresher, at the end of the movie Andy gives away all of his childhood toys to pre-schooler, Bonnie. Don't fret though, because all your favorite toys are going to be back for more crazy antics in 2019 and it's going to be as heartwarming and emotional as ever. Here's everything we know about the upcoming installment: WHAT DO WE KNOW ABOUT THE TOY STORY 4 PLOT SO FAR? We know what happens in the first 17 minutes! Disney screened the start of the film at their recent CinemaCon presentation. Without giving away any spoilers, the beginning of the film explores how Forky came to be and his adjustment to life as a new toy. If you're worried that you’ll have to binge watch all the movies leading up to Toy Story 4, don't fret: a montage in those first few minutes catches us up to the present. 1 The exclusive screening also gave us a peek into Woody's life, as a toy under Bonnie's ownership. They don't really have a close relationship, since she's not too interested in playing with him. This causes Woody to start reevaluating his purpose. And if you're wondering, yes the movie includes a rendition of our favorite Toy Story song, "You've Got a Friend." WHO IS THE VILLAIN? You've already met Toy Story 4's big villain, but you might be surprised to see who it is. Gabby Gabby, a doll at the same shop that Bo Peep has been in, is in charge and she's not happy when things don't go her own way. DISNEY ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW "Gabby has been in this antique store for 60-plus years," director Josh Cooley told Entertainment Weekly. "We’ve never seen creepy, old dolls like that in Toy Story, and this was an opportunity to do that. Gabby is a perfect toy except for the fact that she’s got one thing broken about her that’s been keeping her from being purchased and loved forever. So when Woody comes across her, it’s bad right out the gate. And in fact, meeting her for the first time is one of my favorite scenes in the whole movie." Gabby is voiced by Christina Hendricks and it looks like she has two very different sides to her in the film. "We couldn’t have picked a better person to voice our villain than Christina Hendricks," Cooley told Entertainment Weekly. "It’s perfect. She can play such sweet innocence and kindness, and then at the flip of a switch, she can go just so cold and terrifying. It’s so much fun." IS THERE AN OFFICIAL TRAILER YET? 2 After months of teaser trailers, fans finally got the first official full length trailer that features Woody going out to save Forky after he tries to abandon Bonnie since he's not technically a toy. This journey leads them to find Bo Peep and causes the rest of the toys to go out and find them before Bonnie realizes they're all gone. If you cried at Toy Story 3, you'll definitely need some tissues for this one. Check it out below: IS THERE A POSTER? Along with the new trailer, Disney also released the brand new Toy Story 4 poster featuring some old favorites and a couple of new toys that will be joining Woody and Buzz on their new journey. 3 DISNEY ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW Some of the older characters that are missing include Jessie, Slinky Dog, Rex, Hamm, Mr. Potato Head, and the Aliens. However, fans shouldn't worry as they've been seen around in the teasers, so we will definitely be seeing them in the new film as well! ARE THERE ANY CLIPS FROM THE MOVIE? 4 While we've gotten tons of teaser trailers in the past few weeks leading up to Toy Story 4, we haven't seen any clips from the actual movie...until now. Annie Potts, who voices Little Bo Peep, went of Good Morning America to share a clip from the upcoming movie. Good Morning America ✔@GMA We're giving you an EXCLUSIVE look at the newest @toystory movie! So excited to go to infinity and beyond! #ToyStory4 882 9:42 AM - Feb 15, 2019 498 people are talking about this In the scene, we get to see the toys up to their old antics, using whatever they have to get things done, in this case, using Slinky Dog to save a toy stuck outside in the rain. 5 Honestly, if this scene doesn't get you excited for Toy Story 4, I'm not sure what will. While on GMA, Annie also shared that in the new movie, Bo will find love. While in the past, Bo has struggled to choose between Woody and Buzz, she's finally going to make up her mind in the fourth movie. Good Morning America ✔@GMA .@anniepotts, the voice of Little Bo Peep in the @toystory franchise, tells us that Bo FINALLY chooses between Woody and Buzz in #ToyStory4! 115 9:45 AM - Feb 15, 2019 50 people are talking about this 6 "I think she's made a choice now," said Annie when asked if Bo finally makes a decision regarding her love life. Unfortunately, Annie wouldn't give anything else away regarding what her choice actually is, so we will just have to wait until June to see! DOES TOY STORY 4 LEAVE THE DOOR OPEN FOR A FIFTH MOVIE? While fans continue to count down the days before they join Woody and Buzz on their latest adventure, Tim Allen says that it might not be the last time we see the two buddies and their toy friends on the big screen. "Once you've gotten to four, you're passed that trilogy [point], so I don't see any reason why they wouldn't do it, certainly," he told Entertainment Tonight. "If you ask me, I'd say do five." ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW Of course, fans might be remember when Toy Story 3 was said to be the last film in the series. So they probably aren't totally surprised to hear that a fifth movie might be possible. WILL BUZZ LIGHTYEAR BE IN IT? Thanks to a teaser from the movie's Instagram, we know that Bo Peep is coming back for the franchise's fourth installment, but what about the classic toys like Buzz Lightyear? Well, he will be back, but it seems like he may find himself in a little bit of trouble in Toy Story 4. In a teaser that aired during the Super Bowl, we see Woody and Bo hanging out at a carnival. They seem to be really enjoying it, but Buzz is no where to be found. Unfortunately, Buzz is tied up...literally. He has been placed on a wall as a carnival game prize and it looks like he will need some help to escape. The only toys around to help though, are Ducky and Bunny, two new furry friends voiced by Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key. They aren't too keen to help Buzz, however, they're more mad that he took their "top prize spot." While we don't know what will happen to Buzz (will he escape? Will he be sent home with a prize-winning kid?), we can assume this predicament will play out in Toy Story 4 when it's released in June 2019. IS THE MOVIE ALMOST DONE BEING MADE? 7 Tim Allen and Tom Hanks just revealed that they've finished voice recording for Toy Story 4 and they're getting emotional after having to say goodbye to Woody and Buzz again. ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW Tim Allen ✔@ofctimallen Finished my Buzz for Toy Story 4 today and it got emotional. Wonderful full body story. A COMMON CORE CURRICULUM GUIDE TO The Marvelous Thing That Came from a Spring: The Accidental Invention of the Toy That Swept the Nation By Gilbert Ford Hardcover: 9781481450652 Enhanced Ebook: 9781481450669 BACKGROUND AND SUMMARY When a spring fell from a shelf on engineer Richard James’s desk and took a walk around all by itself, it sparked the creation of a marvelous thing—the toy we now know as the Slinky®. This picture book follows the growing popularity of the Slinky® from James’s original idea that he shared with his wife and son, to the toy’s first introduction to Christmas shoppers at Gimbels department store, and finally, to its factory production—where enough were made that every boy and girl in America could have one. This remarkable success was due to the teamwork of “dreamer” Richard James and “planner” Betty James, his wife. Together they turned a metal spring into an absolutely marvelous thing. Detailed, colorful illustrations created from cutouts, painted backgrounds, and vintage toys such as plastic sedans, dollhouse sofas, and games create a sense of the 1940s Philadelphia setting. But they do more—they show the sense of excitement that resulted from seeing an ordinary object presented in a fresh, new way. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS/ACTIVITIES Key Ideas and Details The discussion questions and activities below draw on Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for reading informational text (RI) that ask children to ask and answer questions about key details in a text (RI.K–3.1), identify the main topic and key details that support it (RI.K–3.2), and describe the relationship between a series of events, concepts, or ideas (RI.K–3.3).

A text such as Toy Story (John Lasseter, 1995), though, explicitly activates and draws upon these links more than most. Noel Brown’s chapter in this book highlights some of the cultural references found in the fi lm’s script, and the ways in which these intertextual gags contribute towards its dual address by reaching out to mul- tiple demographics. Here, though, I focus on the connections established by the toys themselves, and in particular the meanings they can create for a child audience.
