Wishing to perform a Feast Offering connected with the Guruyoga of the Seven Line Prayer for Guru Rinpoche, clean a cloistered place, decorate it with offerings, and set up a statue or thangka of Guru Padmasambhava with his consort. Arrange two tormas for the Three Roots (lama torma on the right, dakini torma on the left), with tea on the right and milk on the left, medicine in the right skull cup, blood in the left, in front the necessities (the five plates), and bountiful food and drink below in front as feast offering items led by meat and beer. Sprinkle it all with water for purification. Gather damaru, vajra and bell, drum and cymbals, various types of musical instruments. The practitioner should conduct the ritual with a single-pointed mind. iv v Padmasambhava Amitabha emits a red ray of light that pierces Dhanakosha Lake in Oddiyana; there, an immaculate lotus arises from the center of the lake. King Indrabhuti dispatches his minister to investigate the miraculous emanation. The minister find a child of eight seated on the lotus and encircled by rainbow auras and dakinis. When the child is brought to the court and the king questions him, he replies: "My father is Wisdom. My mother is Voidness. Mine is the country of Dharma. I am sustained by clarity and perplexity." He is Padmasambhava, the Lotus-Born Guru, and the lake symbolizes his eight manifestations. Seeing an immediately efficacious doctrine, Padma traveled to the highest heaven. Vajrasattva revealed to him all sound (nama) as mantra and all appearances (rupa) as enchantment. He learned the Mahayoga tantras, completed the two truths blended into one, and activated completion through ritual. Padmasambhava initiated the wide diffusion of Buddhism in Tibet. As a great exorcist, he was able to overcome local demonic opponents of Buddhism. He grew from being a miracle worker to gigantic proportions and was spoken of as the second Buddha. He accomplished a fusion of the old and new. The Thang yig sets forth in epic language the triumphal procession of Padmasambhava, involving local and mountain gods, lineage and ancestral deities. This painting shows eight bodhisattvas to his right and eight monks to his left, representing the two planes of the eight doctrines. Also shown are the various manifestations of protectors and herukas, bands of knowledge-holder heroes. At the top are the twenty-five disciples of Padmasambhava. He transmitted the essence of his teachings to them. As each one symbolically offered body, speech, and mind to the guru, he or she perfected a particular meditative realization. Through their efforts, the lineage of Padmasambhava flows even to the present time. vi ÉÊ Ê2Ý#-/¸¥,-#<ë:-7+è/<-+$-7oè:-/7Ü-v-07Ü-F:-7eë9-eÜ,-x/<-&9-7/è/<-/º¥#<-<ëÊ Ê RAIN OF BLESSINGS A GURUYOGA CONNECTED WITH THE SEVEN LINE PRAYER Eë-Bè7Ü-2Ý#-/¸¥,-#<ë:-7+è/<-,ÜÊ THE ADAMANTINE SEVEN LINE PRAYER œ×ñÎ >ë-{,-8ß:-bÜ-¹¥/-e$-020<Î HŪṂ Or-gyen yul-gyi nub-chang-tsham HŪṂ You, who in north-western Oddiyana ý -#è-<9-Zë$-ýë-:Î 8-02,-0&ë#-#Ü-+$ë<-iá/-/Cè<Î Pe-maV gé-sar dong-po-la Ya-tshen chog-gi ngö-drub-nyé On the heart of a lotus flower Attained the most wondrous realization, ý -7e³$-#,<-5è<-<ß-i#<Î 7"ë9-¸¥-0"7-7ië-0$-ýë<-/Uë9Î Pe-maV jung-ne zhé-su-drag Khor-du khan-dro mang-pö-kor Are renowned as Padmasambhava and Surrounded by a retinue of many dakinis. aè+-`Ü-Bè<-<ß-/+#-…å/-`Ü<Î eÜ,-bÜ<-/x/-dÜ9-#;è#<-<ß-#<ë:Î Khyé-kyi jé-su dag-drub-kyi Chin-gyi-lab-chir sheg-su-sol I promise to follow after you.
