  • Tommy Fury Signs for Frank Warren
TOMMY FURY SIGNS FOR FRANK WARREN Tommy Fury, the younger brother of Tyson Fury, has signed a promotional deal with Frank Warren and will make his professional bow on the undercard of Josh Warrington’s world title defence against Carl Frampton in Manchester on December 22nd. At 19-years-old, Tommy is the youngest out of the fighting Fury family. With older brother Tyson already having achieved so much within the sport and having the opportunity to engrave his name onto the WBC World Heavyweight title come December 1st, Tommy is under no illusion that his world renowned ‘Fury’ name will certainly gather plenty of attention when he laces up the gloves on December 22nd. “It’s big shoes to fill isn’t it?!” joked Tommy. He continued: “…But sure, it’s a big name to live up to but I don’t feel any added pressure on myself because of it, I know that I will make my own name in this sport.” Boxing has been in Tommy’s life since the day he was born and began to take the sport more seriously as a 12-year-old, but due to the shortage of opponents willing to fight him, boxing was a very stop-start process at first. “I only had 12 amateur fights in the end. I went to the nationals and got to the final, won the north regionals twice, so I did reasonably well. “But amateur boxing and professional boxing are two different things. I regularly spar with Hughie [Fury, Tommy’s cousin] and his sparring partners and I know I am more suited to the pro game.” Tommy will begin his professional journey as a light- heavyweight under the tutelage of British boxing hero Ricky Hatton at the Hatton gym in Manchester.

  • Fighters, Pundits and Famous Fans Have Their Say
THE FIGHT EVERYONE’S TALKING ABOUT: FIGHTERS, PUNDITS AND FAMOUS FANS HAVE THEIR SAY AT LAST, Dubois vs Joyce is finally happening. It is a fight that has captured the public imagination and it goes down this Saturday night live on BT Sport 1 HD from 7.30pm. Below are a selection of prediction quotes from some of the biggest names in the sport, and a few famous fans for good measure. TYSON FURY I want to be there for that. I want to be the commentary man for that fight. That’s a fight I do not want to miss. Both good fighters. Joe’s a big strong unit, Juggernaut, get in the way he’ll run you over. Daniel’s big and strong and youthful, fresh. They’re both good fighters and it’ll come down to who wants it more on the night. They’re both capable of winning, they’re both capable of pulling victories out and they’re both capable of knocking the other person out. It’s a fight you don’t want to miss. Watch it live and exclusive on BT Sport. DAVID HAYE I can see it going both ways. I can see Dubois being able to stop Joyce if it’s an early shootout. But, if it’s not an early shootout and it becomes a boxing match, I believe that works in Joe Joyce’s favour. So I’m going to go with the man I know, the man I’ve seen take some beatings and soak it up, I’m going to go with Joe Joyce by points decision or late stoppage.

  • Introduction to a Level English Language
Introduction to A Level English Language Language Investigation Contact: [email protected] Welcome Firstly, welcome to the cross over work between GCSE English and A Level English Language! Hopefully, as you will soon discover, A Level English Language is really different from GCSE English Language. We will be exploring topics as diverse as ‘How do we learn to speak?’ to ‘Where does Stormzy’s dialect come from?’ stopping along the way to consider the impact that your occupation may have on your language, and what on earth is meant by a first person plural possessive pronoun?! Overview of Task You are going to undertake a language investigation as an introduction to your A Level English Language studies. You will undertake a similar piece of work towards the end of your first year of studies too, so this is an excellent opportunity to develop, and practice, some skills of linguistic analysis. When you actually complete your language investigation, you are able to choose your own topic. For example, last year we had topics like: ● ‘Burn’ from Hamilton ● Award acceptance speeches from Oliver Sykes and Kendrick Lamar ● Self-presentation in ‘Love Island’ VTs for Amber, Amy, Anton & Michael ● Ambiguity of sexuality in Sam Smith and Frank Ocean lyrics ● Responses in Pizza Hut Overview of Task For this language analysis, you are going to explore the presentation of a celebrity of your choice by the British press, exploring how they are represented and considering why certain linguistic choices may have been made. Your investigation may lead you to explore language and power, or the impact of gender on language, or the media perception of celebrity, or many other areas of focus.

  • THE TRAUMATIC IMPACT of MEDIA HUMILIATION, MISREPRESENTATION and VICTIM-SHAMING on NARRATIVE IDENTITY and WELL-BEING a Dissertat
THE TRAUMATIC IMPACT OF MEDIA HUMILIATION, MISREPRESENTATION AND VICTIM-SHAMING ON NARRATIVE IDENTITY AND WELL-BEING A dissertation submitted by CHRISTINE MARIE to FIELDING GRADUATE UNIVERSITY In partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY IN PSYCHOLOGY With an Emphasis in Media Psychology This dissertation has been accepted for the faculty of Fielding Graduate University by Committee: Pamela B. Rutledge, PhD, Faculty Reader Daniel R. Sewell, PhD, Faculty Research Specialist Steve K. D. Eichel, PhD, External Examiner TRAUMATIC MEDIA MISREPRESENTATION THE TRAUMATIC IMPACT OF MEDIA HUMILIATION, MISREPRESENTATION AND VICTIM-SHAMING ON NARRATIVE IDENTITY AND WELL-BEING by Christine Marie Abstract In today’s media-saturated world filled with YouTube videos, social media, crime shows, contest shows, and reality TV, there is ample opportunity for average citizens to be humiliated or misrepresented in the media. Although media effects have been studied for decades, in almost every case the research has focused on how the media has affected the consumers of the media. This study, however, is interested in the impact of a negative or false media portrayal on individuals who were the subjects of the media, not the consumers. A mixed- methods phenomenological research approach was used to uncover the lived experience of those who have been humiliated, misrepresented, publicly shamed, or victim-blamed in the media. Quantitatively, 22 individuals answered the Peritraumatic, Dehumanization, Humiliation, Objectification scale, as well as the Centrality of Events scale, both modified to measure humiliation and misrepresentation in the media (MHM). A Pearson’s correlation between these two trauma scales showed a strong significance at the .01 level.
