Sheriff Hutton Village News ______ Sheriff Hutton Village News _________________________________________________________________________________________ Number 495 January 2011 A Very Happy New Year to All Our Readers and with Thanks to our regular Advertisers and welcome to our new ones Parish Council News www.sheriffhutton.co.uk The Parish Council Meeting for December 2010 was cancelled due to the bad weather. The next Meeting will take place on Friday 7th January 2011 at 7.30pm in the Village Hall. United Christian Churches Committee New Year Party – Saturday 8 th January 2011 Party invitations will be delivered after Christmas. If you have not received your invitation by Monday 3 rd January , please contact Caroline Hunt on 878242. Please do let us know if you are eligible to attend and do not receive an invitation. After a warm welcome and a glass of sherry or orange juice, guests are served a delicious tea followed by entertainment. There is a vegetable quiche available for vegetarians and fruit salad for diabetics. Any offers of help? Do come and join us in what is one of the greatest village events to start the New Year. If you would like to be a hostess, please call Sally Cliff on 878455 ASAP , it only takes 2-3 hours and is a very satisfying and appreciated gesture. Offers of transport are also needed to help with ferrying guests to and from the party and to deliver teas out to those unable to attend due to illness. Even one trip can make a big difference. Please call Andrew Hawkswell on 878426. As always gifts of cakes and pastries for the party are very much appreciated and can be left at the Hall between 10am and 12 noon, after 2pm or with a committee member. We do hope you will be able to join us! Sheriff Hutton Point to Point The point to point will be held on Sunday 16th January commencing at 10.45 with pony racing and 12 noon for the point to point races. Please come along and support us and help raise funds for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Entry is £10 per person including a racecard. There will be hot food and a bar. If the weather is bad we will try and run on Sunday 23rd January. Mobile Library Farlington and Sheriff Hutton . The mobile library dates and times are as follows – Tuesdays 4 th and 25 th January , 10:05 – 10:15am at Farlington, Woodside; 10:20 – 10:30am at Farlington Village Hall; 10:50 – 11:10am at Sheriff Hutton, East End; 11:15 – 11:30am at The Green; 11:35 – 11:45am at Castle Side; 11:50 – 12:05pm at Castle View; 12:10 – 12:25pm at Warwick Close; 1:05 – 1:15pm at Dudley Hill Farm and 1.25 – 1.35pm at Whenby, Foulrice Farm West Lilling and High Stittenham . The mobile library dates and times are as follows – Tuesday 18 th January, 9.30 – 9.40am near the post box on Goose track Lane, West Lilling and 3.55 – 4.05pm at High Stittenham. 1 York – Sheriff Hutton – Malton : Bus Timetable A new bus timetable was introduced in December. If you are travelling to/from Malton it now involves a change of bus at Castle Howard or Welburn. There are now no journeys to York Rail Station. Chris, will meet for the first time in the Parish Church on Wednesday 12th January at 11.45 for 12 noon. A short meditation followed by a ‘take and share’ lunch. All villagers welcome. It is hoped that EMMAUS will meet monthly. More information from Jenny Howarth - 878341 Sheriff Hutton Gardening Club The Gardening Club meets every third Wednesday of the month. The annual subscription is £10 per person, £2 for visitors attending talks in the Village Hall. We welcome every one to our first meeting of the year on Wednesday 19th January, in the Village Hall at 7.30pm, to a talk by Alan Woodward from the Brunswick Organic Nursery, Bishopthorpe. Back in 2004 they began renting the Archbishop's Palace Walled Garden, originally only the smaller garden. They began by clearing the original overgrown, neglected garden. The nursery is run for adults with learning difficulties, selling produce and other items in their shop. It is a story of determination & resourcefulness. 3 Judith Calvert Chris and family would like to express their sincere thanks for all the cards, letters and kindness received from friends, colleagues and family after Judith’s death. Plough Sunday at St Leonard’s Farlington It is that time, again, to sing We Plough the Fields and Scatter in January! Come along and celebrate the start of the farming year at the Plough Sunday Service in St Leonard’s on Sunday 23 rd January at 11:15am. The service is followed by a warming ploughman's lunch including home made soups in the Village Hall. Adults £5.00, children free. A warm welcome is guaranteed for everyone.. Farlington Circle The Farlington Circle had to be cancelled in December due to bad weather. It has been rearranged for Wednesday, 26 th January, 2.30 – 4pm in the church. All villagers welcome. More information from Margaret 878735 and Jenny 878341 Health Visitor Drop in The Health Visitor will be at The Village Hall from 9.30am -11.30am on Thursday, January 6 th during the Toddler Session for anyone with pre-school children who would like to see her. Anyone waiting to see the Health Visitor is more than welcome to pop into Toddlers (if not attending anyway) while they are waiting, but consultations with the Health Visitor are confidential and in a separate room. Sheriff Hutton Bowling Club We hope you had an enjoyable Christmas – the weather is as it should be on all the seasonal cards! The club sends everybody best wishes for a happy and prosperous New Year. Our next bingo is scheduled for Fr iday, January 14th at 7.30p.m. in the Village Hall. Please do come; it's a fun evening to brighten up a dark winter; and we do value your support. Sheriff Hutton Tennis Club – Annual Dinner and Presentation Evening Members and friends are invited to the Club's Annual Dinner at the Highwayman Inn on Friday January 28th at 7.30pm. This application is referred to Planning Committee as the proposal is a departure from the Development Plan. 1.0 SITE, CONTEXT AND PROPOSAL 1.1 The application site is in open countryside and the nearest village is Whenby 1.2km north west of the application site. The site is south of Whenby Lane, between Whenby and Sheriff Hutton which is approximately 3km south east from the application site and beyond the district of Hambleton. 1.2 The application proposes the conversion of a redundant agricultural building to a dwelling on land at Wellfield Farm, Whenby. The building to be converted is a large modern steel frame building beneath a cement profile roof with steel sheet sides. The proposal is to form one dwelling creating a first floor to achieve a five bedroom dwelling. Part of the lean-to section of the building is to be reduced such that the dwelling will stand on a smaller footprint than the existing building. 1.3 The external walling of the building is to be mainly Yorkshire Boarding with large windows within aluminium frames and sliding doors on the south east and south west elevations. A proposal for a detached domestic car port to the west of the building has been omitted the proposed car port.
