J 1, Eagle 1994-95 Morehead State Earns Ohio Valley Conference Academic Achievement Banner

For the second year in a row and for the fourth time in the eight years it has been awarded, Morehead State has earned the Ohio Valley Conference Academic Achievement Banner. The Banner is given annually to the school whose athletes have the highest grade point average compared to the average for the entire student body. MSU's athletes had a combined grade point average of 2. 74, which was not only the best in the conference compared to the entire student body, but also was the top overall grade point average among the nine league schools. Mark Majick (6-4, 190, Jr.) averaged 12.9 ppg. in 1993-94 after sitting out the previous season as a trans­ fer. He hit a team-high 74 three-point field goals. Marty Cline (6-2, 175, Jr.) has been a starter since his arrival on the MSU campus. The playmaker bas led MSU in assists the past two season and has hit nearly 40 percent of three-point field goal attempts and better than 87 per­ cent of bis free throws. Kelly Wells (6-7, 2 10, Sr.) over­ came early season medical problems to average 11.8 ppg. and 4.2 rpg. Like Williams, he has the ability to play anywhere on the floor. Other returnees are Jerry Fogle (6-2, 175, So.), Cole Indestad (6-8, 225, So.) and Mike Scrogham (6-7, 205, So.). Fogle came on strong late in the season, earning several starts and averaging 9.2 ppg. overall and I 1.0 ppg. in conference games. Indestad saw limited action in 14 games. Scrogham averaged 4.1 ppg. and 2.3 rpg. in 27 games as a back-up post player. Two good-shooting, quick junior college guards and a talented junior college post player make up the 1994- 95 recruiting class. Ivan Colbert (5-11, 180, Jr.) was a standout at Joliet College. The University Historically Morehead State University traces its li neage to the Morehead Norina! School, which opened its doors in L887. Since its founding as a state institution in 1922, MSU has grown from a teachers college to a regional university that serves Kentucky and Appalachia. Until university status was granted in 1966, the institution's primary mission was the training of teachers. However, the curriculum now embraces nearly 140 academic programs on the associate, baccalaureate, and graduate levels. Physically, the University consists of more than fifty major structures valued at more than $1 IO million. There are more than 36,000 MSU alumni. Administratively, the University operates under an 11-member Board of Regents that consists of eight citizens appointed by the governor of Kentucky, with three other seats held by elected faculty, staff and student representatives. The administrative structure covers primarily four areas: academic affairs, administration and fiscal services, student life, and university advancement. Each of these units is headed by a vice presid,ent. There are approximately 8;600 men and women enrolled at Morehead Stale University, of whom nearly 7,300 are undergraduates.
