Not only that, but BC nearly knocked off the No. 1 national seed Texas in an NCAA-record 25 inning game that would have propelled it to the fi nals of the Austin Regional - which would have given the Eagles a great chance at reaching their fi rst Super Regional in program history. Aoki’s 2009 squad qualifi ed for its fi rst ACC Championship and made a statement there as well. Entering the tournament needing at least one win to ensure its spot in an NCAA Regional, BC lost the fi rst game to No. 7 Florida State. The Eagles responded emphatically, beating No. 13 Georgia Tech and No. 16 Miami in the next two games by a combined score of 17-4 to get their bid to Austin. BC’s 34-26 record was its best since 2005 and its 13-15 mark in the ACC was the most wins since joining the conference in 2006. The Eagles were tabbed the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association’s Team of the Year for their performance. The Eagles were also a major presence in the 2009 MLB Draft as catcher Tony Sanchez was selected fourth overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was the highest pick ever for the baseball program and only the Atlanta Falcons’ Matt Ryan has been selected higher (third) in a draft. Pitcher Mike Belfi ore was then taken in Comp Round A (45th overall) by the Arizona Diamondbacks, making the pair the two highest draft picks taken in the same draft from BC. Barry Butera and JB MacDonald were both Before assuming his duties at Columbia, Aoki spent four years (1995- drafted on the second day by the Houston Astros. 98) as assistant coach at Dartmouth (N.H.) College. In that position, he focused his efforts on the team’s infi elders and hitters, while also serving Aoki has coached 22 MLB draft picks and four free agent signees since as the program’s recruiting coordinator. his arrival at The Heights in 2004.

Cincinnati Reds Press Clippings November 21, 2012 CINCINNATI ENQUIRER Pitching is pricey, transactions By John Fay | 11/20/2012 12:17 PM ET Want to know why the Reds would be wise to lock up Homer Bailey and Mat Latos long-term? The Kansas City Royals agreed to a three-year deal with Jeremy Guthrie that pays him $5 million on 2013, $11 million in 2014 and $9 million in 2015. He went 8-12 with a 4.76 ERA and 1.41 WHIP. Bailey went 13-10 with a 3.68 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP. Latos went 14-4 with a 2.48 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP. It’s a bit apples and oranges: Guthrie is a free agent; Bailey is arbitration-eligible for the second time, Latos for the first. But the point is starting pitching — even mediocre starting pitching — is expensive. SIX ADDED: The Reds added right-handers Carlos Contreras, Daniel Corcino, Curtis Partch and Josh Ravin, left-hander Ismael Guillon and outfielder Yorman Rodriguez to the roster in order to protect them from the Rule 5 draft. Report: Former Red Frank Pastore badly hurt in motorcycle wreck By dclark | 11/20/2012 7:55 PM ET The Inland Valley Daily Bulletin is reporting that former Cincinnati Reds pitcher Frank Pastore, a Christian radio personality in California, was badly injured Monday night after being thrown from his motorcycle onto the highway near Duarte, Calif. From dailybulletin.com’s Juliette Funes: A 55-year-old motorcyclist from Upland was taken to a trauma center when his motorcycle was hit by a car on the 210 Freeway Monday night.
