In just three seasons, Mik Aoki has brought the Boston College baseball program into the national forefront after leading the Eagles to their fi rst NCAA Regional appearance in 42 years in 2009.

Not only that, but BC nearly knocked off the No. 1 national seed Texas in an NCAA-record 25 inning game that would have propelled it to the fi nals of the Austin Regional - which would have given the Eagles a great chance at reaching their fi rst Super Regional in program history.

Aoki’s 2009 squad qualifi ed for its fi rst ACC Championship and made a statement there as well. Entering the tournament needing at least one win to ensure its spot in an NCAA Regional, BC lost the fi rst game to No. 7 Florida State. The Eagles responded emphatically, beating No. 13 Georgia Tech and No. 16 Miami in the next two games by a combined score of 17-4 to get their bid to Austin.

BC’s 34-26 record was its best since 2005 and its 13-15 mark in the ACC was the most wins since joining the conference in 2006. The Eagles were tabbed the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association’s Team of the Year for their performance.

The Eagles were also a major presence in the 2009 MLB Draft as was selected fourth overall by the . He was the highest pick ever for the baseball program and only the Atlanta Falcons’ Matt Ryan has been selected higher (third) in a draft. All-Northeast Region First Team • Sophomore OF Spenser Payne drove in the only run for BC in the fi fth inning. Senior OF Baseball America Mid-Season All-America Mike Sudol and freshman INF Philip Miclat had the other hits for the Eagles. Johnny Bench Award Finalist • Sophomore Taylor Lasko pitched a perfect fi fth inning on the mound and had a . Baseball America #48 prospect in nation Senior Chris Kowalski was the only other pitcher to not allow a run in his inning of work. Baseball America #42 junior prospect in nation • Both starters fi gured in the decision despite pitching just the fi rst inning. JOHN SPATOLA EAGLES PICKED THIRD IN ATLANTIC Austin Regional All-Tournament Team • The Boston College baseball team was picked to fi nish third in the ACC Atlantic Division in a preseason vote of the conference’s 12 head coaches. MICKEY WISWALL • The Eagles’ third-place pick was the highest they have been voted in the ACC preseason All-Northeast Region Second Team poll since their fi rst season in the league in 2006. Austin Regional All-Tournament Team • BC was picked to fi nish fi fth in each of the last three seasons. ACC Baseball All-Tournament Team • Florida State garnered 10 fi rst-place votes in the Atlantic and is the coaches’ pick to win the All-ACC Second Team division. Clemson earned two fi rst-place votes and fi nished in second. NC State, Wake Forest and Maryland were fourth, fi fth and sixth, respectively. • Defending ACC champion Virginia is the coaches’ selection to win the Coastal Division and become the overall champion. THE LONGEST GAME • BC made history when it played the No. 1 national seed Texas in the second game of the Austin Regional at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. • The two teams battled for 25 innings before Texas fi nally scored in the top of the inning to win, 3-2.
