MARKING
The French system in Maternelle and Primary usually mark along the lines of A, AR, ECA, NA. A is for acquis, acquired skill, the top mark, AR is à réviser or to be relearnt, ECA - en cours d'acquisition or NA - non acquis or not learnt/understood. In collège, marks are out of 20. The pass/fail level is 10. CRECHES
There is a local Fontainebleau crèche but places are limited. The crèche takes children from 3 months to 3 years old. It is open from 7.00 am to 6.30 pm.
They also have a system where the crèche takes an additional small group of children who are partly looked after at the crèche and partly at a nanny's house.
To be eligible for a place you have to live in Fontainebleau. There are other crèches in the villages around so you will have to ask your local town hall if you live outside Fontainebleau.

Children start la maternelle nursery in September of the year in which they turn 3 generally, although some will take children as early as 2.5 (CAB, Ecole Saint Marie...). Please note that in France the age year is January to December rather than in line with the academic year of September to August.

It is important to go to these to order to sign up for year-long sports or activities. For some clubs, this is the only time that you can sign up and places are quickly filled.
