See https://quodlibet.readthedocs.org/en/latest for the latest documentation. Quod Libet is a GTK+-based audio player written in Python, using the Mutagen tagging library. It’s designed around the idea that you know how to organize your music better than we do. It lets you make playlists based on regular expressions (don’t worry, regular searches work too). It lets you display and edit any tags you want in the file, for all the file formats it supports. Unlike some, Quod Libet will scale to libraries with tens of thousands of songs. It also supports most of the features you’d expect from a modern media player: Unicode support, advanced tag editing, Replay Gain, podcasts & internet radio, album art support and all major audio formats - see the screenshots. Ex Falso is a program that uses the same tag editing back-end as Quod Libet, but isn’t connected to an audio player. If you’re perfectly happy with your favorite player and just want something that can handle tagging, Ex Falso is for you. The following steps show roughly what is needed. • Get OS X running. It is possible to run it in VirtualBox. • If you’re using VBox install the sound driver. • Install XCode (check the OS X requirements.. you might need an older version) • Install git. • Get jhbuild running. • Add ~/.local/bin to PATH • jhbuild bootstrap • jhbuild build meta-gtk-osx-bootstrap • jhbuild build meta-gtk-osx-core • jhbuild build pygtk • Build/install mutagen. • There is currently no pygst available in jhbuild, but you can patch in the experimental NSSound backend. • Change QL config to macbe backend. • jhbuild shell • python quodlibet.py • The quartz theme is not really usable, so you might want to: * jhbuild build meta-gtk-osx-themes * copy clealooks gtkrc to .gtkrc-2.0 Note: There exists a newer version of this page and the content below may be outdated. See https://quodlibet.readthedocs.org/en/latest for the latest documentation. 8 Chapter 1. Table of Contents Ex Falso / Quod Libet, Release 3.0.2 1.3 Requirements 1.3.1 Core Dependencies Quod Libet depends on the Python runtime and associated libraries. • Python (>= 2.6) • PyGObject (>= 3.2) • GStreamer (>= 1.0) or xine-lib (>= 1.1): • Mutagen (>= 1.14): Particular audio formats depend on various GStreamer decoding elements, as well as other Python modules. GStreamer splits their downlads into ‘’good’‘, ‘’bad’‘, ‘’ugly’‘, and ‘’ffmpeg’‘ packages, each of which contains elements; you probably want them all. 1.3.2 Additional Features Audio Feed support depends on HTTP support and Universal Feed Parser. Many parts of Quod Libet benefit from D-Bus and its Python bindings. iPod support depends on libgpod. Device support depends on UDisks 1. 1.3.3 Plugins Part of Quod Libet’s strength is in its rich array of plugins to extend the base functionality and interface with other systems. Some of these depend on libraries of their own. If you don’t have these, the plugin manager will catch these errors and disable the plugin to avoid errors in QL itself, and present them in the plugins error section. Once you’ve installed the libraries, the plugins should work as expected. Some notable examples: • The auto library update plugin depends on pynotify • Zeitgeist plugin depends on the python zeitgeist bindings Note: There exists a newer version of this page and the content below may be outdated. See https://quodlibet.readthedocs.org/en/latest for the latest documentation. 1.4 Features 1.4.1 Audio Playback • Multiple audio back-ends (GStreamer, xine-lib) • Replay Gain support • Auto-selects between ‘track’ and ‘album’ mode based on current view and play order • Applies clipping prevention whenever available 1.3. Requirements 9 Ex Falso / Quod Libet, Release 3.0.2 • Configurable default (fallback) and pre-amp values to suit any audio setup • Multimedia key support • Real shuffle mode, that plays the whole playlist before repeating • Weighted (by rating) random playback • Proper ‘Previous’ support in shuffle mode • A play queue • Bookmarks within files (or playlists, with a plugin) 1.4.2 Editing Tags • Full Unicode support • Make changes to many files at once • Make changes across all supported file formats • Tag files based on their filenames with configurable formats • Rename files based on their tags • No ugly %a, %t patterns - more readable <artist>, <title> instead • Fast track renumbering • See full instructions at Editing Tags 1.4.3 Audio Library • Watch directories and automatically add/remove new music • Hide songs on removable devices that may not always be there • Save song ratings and play counts • Lyrics downloading and saving • Internet Radio (“Shoutcast”) support • Audio Feeds (“Podcast”) support 1.4.4 User Interface • Simple user interface to Just Play Music if you want • Useful as a small window or maximized, no feeling cramped or wasted space • Album cover display • Full player control from a tray icon • Recognize and display many uncommon tags, as well as any others you want.

Whether you want to watch the video on your iPod while working out, insert it into a PowerPoint presentation to add some spice, or simply download a video before it’s removed, it’s quite essential to know how to download, convert, and play these videos. There are basically two ways to download videos off the Internet and that’s how I’ll split up this post: either via a web app or via a desktop application. Personally, I like the web applications better simply because you don’t have to clutter up and slow down your computer with all kinds of software! UPDATE: MakeUseOf put together an excellent list of the best websites for watching movies, TV shows, documentaries and standups online.

  • Cthulhu Lives!: a Descriptive Study of the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society
CTHULHU LIVES!: A DESCRIPTIVE STUDY OF THE H.P. LOVECRAFT HISTORICAL SOCIETY J. Michael Bestul A Thesis Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF ARTS August 2006 Committee: Dr. Jane Barnette, Advisor Prof. Bradford Clark Dr. Marilyn Motz ii ABSTRACT Dr. Jane Barnette, Advisor Outside of the boom in video game studies, the realm of gaming has barely been scratched by academics and rarely been explored in a scholarly fashion. Despite the rich vein of possibilities for study that tabletop and live-action role-playing games present, few scholars have dug deeply. The goal of this study is to start digging. Operating at the crossroads of art and entertainment, theatre and gaming, work and play, it seeks to add the live-action role-playing game, CTHULHU LIVES, to the discussion of performance studies. As an introduction, this study seeks to describe exactly what CTHULHU LIVES was and has become, and how its existence brought about the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society. Simply as a gaming group which grew into a creative organization that produces artifacts in multiple mediums, the Society is worthy of scholarship. Add its humble beginnings, casual style and non-corporate affiliation, and its recent turn to self- sustainability, and the Society becomes even more interesting. In interviews with the artists behind CTHULHU LIVES, and poring through the archives of their gaming experiences, the picture develops of the journey from a small group of friends to an organization with influences and products on an international scale.

  • The Power of Digital Storytelling to Support Teaching and Learning
The Power of Digital Storytelling to Support Teaching and Learning Bernard R. Robin [email protected] University of Houston, USA Abstract Although the term “digital storytelling” may not be familiar to all readers, over the last twenty years, an increasing number of educators, students and others around the world have created short movies by combining computer-based images, text, recorded audio narration, video clips and music in order to present information on various topics. For more than twelve years, faculty members and graduate students in the Learning, Design and Technology Program at the University of Houston College of Education have been exploring the use of digital storytelling to support both teaching and learning. In 2004, the author established the Educational Uses of Digital Storytelling website (http://digitalstorytelling.coe.uh.edu) to serve as a helpful resource for those interested in learning how digital storytelling could be integrated into a variety of educational activities. This paper presents an overview of how digital storytelling has and continues to be used to support teaching and learning activities. In addition, recommendations and guidelines are presented for educators who would like to teach students to use digital storytelling as an educational endeavor.
