Midland struck first by plating a run in the second. Seth Brown connected for a lead- off double and came home on a Richie Martin RBI triple chopped down the left-field line. Hooks starter Akeem Bostick permitted just one more single until his exit after five innings of work. Bostick struck out five against two walks and three hits. Corpus Christi seized the lead on four consecutive hits in the fifth. Abraham Toro and Chas McCormick started the string with sin- gles. Josh Rojas and Lorenzo Quintana answered via back-to-back RBI doubles for a 2-1 Hooks lead. Brandon Bailey yielded just two hits over four innings of relief. One of those knocks was a two-out solo home run by J.P. Sportman which tied the game in the eighth. In the 10th, Ramirez lined a base hit into center field which scored Jonah Heim, who was placed at second base at the start of the inning. Justin Ferrell and Kit Scheetz teamed to strand a pair in the frame. Midland closer Kyle Finnegan retired all three hitters he faced in the home half to pick up his 10th Texas League save. Valdez struck out four, walked 1, and plunked three. He entered with two away in the second and managed to strand both inherited runners. Valdez joins Cionel Perez as southpaws who began 2018 in Corpus Christi and then reach the big leagues for the first time in their careers. Valdez is the 106th Corpus Christi alum to “graduate” to the big leagues. The 2018 class includes Perez (Astros), OF Kyle Tucker (Astros), and OF Ramon Laureano (Athletics). Valdez won both of his Pacific Coast League assignments after opening the year with the Hooks. The 24-year-old southpaw scattered 3 runs and 5 hits over 5.2 frames last Tuesday vs. Las Vegas. Valdez held Albuquerque to 1 run on 3 hits in 3.0 in- nings August 9. Valdez, tabbed as the Astros Minor League Player of the Month for July, yielded just 1 ER in 4 assignments last month. The 24 -year-old lefty struck out 37 against 6 walks and 13 hits in 22.1 frames. A 2018 Texas League Midseason All-Star, Valdez went 4-5 with a 4.10 in 20 games (13 GS) for Corpus Christi. At the time of his Triple-A promotion, Valdez was tied for second in the Texas League in strikeouts with 120 in 94.1 IP. He averaged 11.4 strikeouts per 9 IP at Double-A. REHAB REPORT: C Brian McCann and RHP Chris Devenski are both scheduled to make rehab appearances for the Hooks tonight. McCann, who underwent surgery on July 3 to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee, is catching at batting 2nd in Omar Lopez’s lineup. McCann worked 5 innings behind the plate for Fresno on Saturday. The 7-time All-Star and 6-time Silver Slugger Award winner was 1-for-7 with 1 run and 1 walk in 2 games at Tacoma. McCann is one of four catchers in the modern era to hit at least 20 home runs in 10-or-more seasons, joining Mike Piazza, Johnny Bench, and Yogi Berra. Last year, the Georgia native belted 18 dingers and helped lead the Astros to their first World Series title. McCann is in his 14th Major League campaign, and this run through Fresno and Corpus Christi is his first Minor League action since a rehab stint with Single-A Rome and Triple-A Gwinnett in 2013. Devenski is slated to start for the Hooks this evening, with lefty Brett Adcock ready to follow in relief. The 2015 Hooks Pitcher of the Year worked for the Grizzlies on August 14 and August 17, striking out 4 over 1.2 scoreless innings. Devenski has been on the disabled list since July 31 with right hamstring tightness. Devenski posted a 1.73 ERA and .190 batting average against over his first 38 appearances with the Astros this season. Of the 18 runs he has allowed, 11 have come in the last 4 Houston appearances (July 12-27). The 27-year-old right-hander earned American League All-Star honors last season, going 8-5 with a 2.68 ERA and 100 strikeouts in 62 outings (80.2 IP). Devenski led all Astros relievers with 10 postseason appearances. He earned the decision in Game 2 of the World Series at Dodger Sta- dium, becoming the first pitcher in Astros history to pick up a Fall Classic win. BACK TO FRESNO: RHP Brock Dykxhoorn, who was originally scheduled to start for the Hooks tonight, has been promoted to Triple-A Fresno.

MEDIA CLIPS – Nov. 5, 2018 Arenado, LeMahieu repeat as GG winners Third baseman earns sixth in a row; second baseman makes it three in his career Thomas Harding | MLB.com | Nov. 4th, 2018 DENVER -- Make that a golden half-dozen for Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado, and three for second baseman DJ LeMahieu. The winners of the Rawlings Gold Glove Awards were announced Sunday night on ESPN, and Arenado ran his record- setting streak to six in as many seasons in the Majors. It's the longest run for a player at his position to start his career since the award was instituted in 1957. Arenado also surpassed Larry Walker for most Gold Glove Awards in club history. LeMahieu, the only Rockies second baseman to win the award, took it in 2014 before winning it the last two seasons. The Rockies, who won the National League Wild Card and were swept in three games by the Brewers in the NL Division Series, had multiple Gold Glove winners for the second straight year and the seventh time in their 26-season history. The Gold Glove Awards are determined by a system based 75 percent on votes by managers and coaches and 25 percent on defensive metrics developed by the Society for American Baseball Research. "I love fielding and I love working on it," Arenado said. "I thank God for this award. There are a lot of really good third basemen so it feels good, never gets old. I thank Stu Cole [Rockies third-base coach and infield instructor] and the coaches for always getting me ready, and my people in offseason working with me -- the University of California, Irvine baseball coaches." 1 Arenado prided himself on staying on the field and finished with 156 games played, including 152 defensively.
