VOL. 2, ISSUE 6 09.05.19 A newsletter brought to you by Northcote & Birkenhead Tigers Rugby League & Sports Club Inc. TIGERS REMAIN AT THE TOP FROM THE PREMIER SQUAD Great results from both senior teams last Saturday against the Papakura Sea Eagles at Prince Edward Park. Our Reserves started the game a little flat against a team of 12 but soon picked up while the Papakura Players started coming in. Now with a two-man bench, Papakura started to show that they aren’t a team to take lightly. With Tigers up CLASS OF ’89 REUNION at half time, it was their game to lose but they showed they were the better team on the day and took the win 40 – 6. Try scorers were Justice Aull, Caleb Carey, Steven Taupau, Robert Taupau (2), Jonno Davey, Ethan Mackay, Tawhiri Heremaia with Caleb Carey converting 1 and Jamaica Whaanga converting 3. Our Tigers Premiers remain undefeated in the SAS Fox Memorial Premiership Qualifiers after overcoming the Papakura Sea Eagles at Prince Edward Park. The Tigers were up 16-12 at the break and scored back-to-back tries in the final 20 minutes to secure the win, with second rower Nalu Tuigamala a standout and centre, Kenny Stewart scoring a double. Sir Peter Leitch Club AT MT SMART STADIUM, HOME OF THE MIGHTY VODAFONE WARRIORS 16th August 2017 Newsletter #183 Awesome Loyal Fans Supporting the Boys Last Sunday! For Sale: One Used League Club, Average Condition By David Kemeys Former Sunday Star-Times Editor, Former Editor-in-Chief Suburban Newspapers, Long Suffering Warriors Fan O AUCKLAND businessman Paul Davys is in talks with our owner Eric Watson about buying the club, Salthough Watson says he’s in no hurry. He’s had a stake for 17 years, so full marks for persistence, and what’s another year. Watson might be in no hurry, Davys is, saying he’ll give Watson until Friday because he needs to know one way or the other, or he'll walk away. “If he hasn't by the end of the week then it's probably better for the club and me to move on.” Davys has a chunk of the childcare company ChoiceKids, which is as far – or almost identical, depending on your viewpoint – from league as it is possible to get. Doesn’t seem to worry Davys, who says he wants to be hands on, and he is one of the many convinced the culture is wrong, and that attitudes have to improve. “There's a culture problem, fan scan see it, the coaching staff can see it, and the players can see it. But it's hard to change if you don't know how. I've got a fair idea and a fair amount of knowledge on how to build a cul- ture, so that's what I can bring.” No shortage of confidence then.

  • 2011 Annual Report
2011 ANNUAL REPORT As our mantra states “On and off the Field” and some positive work was undertaken in both areas through 2011 to support development and our clubs. While there were some challenging issues faced by the Board, the ARL administration and clubs, the game continued to progress in target areas with the Board still in a position to maintain current levels of financial support by way of subsidies or incentives. On the field there were highs and lows, highs certainly being the breaking the 500 club team barrier (529), the continuation of our partnership with Maori Television for the broadcast of the Appliance Shed Fox Memorial, our most successful Premiership Grand Final Day in a number of year’s both in attendance, awareness and standard together with the success of the Auckland Vulcan’s in making the Grand Final of the NSW Cup. The season low was certainly the frustrations experienced by continual ground closures due to the inclement weather, not only did this impact on Saturday play but it had a major effect on our primary and intermediate schools programme participation. The problem however is a whole of winter sport issue and highlighted the varying standards of grounds for all grass sports throughout the new Auckland City. While social network mediums certainly highlighted grassroots frustration, there is no easy and quick solution with rugby league grounds alone needing an estimated $20 million capital improvement investment. The ARL was proactive in engagement with the 21 new Local Boards that make up the City and work will continue throughout 2012 and beyond to support the clubs to ensure rugby league and club facilities improvement is to the forefront of each of the respective Community Plans.

  • Sir Peter Leitch Club at MT SMART STADIUM, HOME of the MIGHTY VODAFONE WARRIORS
Sir Peter Leitch Club AT MT SMART STADIUM, HOME OF THE MIGHTY VODAFONE WARRIORS 5th September 2018 Newsletter #233 Congratulations to the Vodafone Warriors on making the 2018 NRL Finals Congratulations Simon on playing your 300th game for the Vodafone Warriors we hope you enjoyed the night as we all did. Photos courtesy of www.photosport.nz Bloody, Penrith, Dragons and Broncos...give me a break By David Kemeys Former Sunday Star-Times Editor, Former Editor-in-Chief Suburban Newspapers, Long Suffering Warriors Fan HIS IS why I am not an NRL tipster. TLast week I boldly opined that to get a home game we would need to beat the Raiders – which happened – and have results go our way – which didn’t. The Storm did not beat the Panthers and blew the Minor Premiership, buggering everything. The Roosters, as predicted, were way too good for the Eels and snatched the Minor Premiership. Souths ended their slump by beating a Tigers side that barely looked interested to finish third. The Sharks at least made me look semi-competent, beating the Dogs to go fourth. The Panthers, as mentioned, pulled off an upset no-one saw coming, and that left them in fifth. The Broncos crushed Manly and rose to sixth, only failing to edge the Panthers – having finished on the same points and differential – because they had more points conceded. The Dragons beat Newcastle yet dropped to seventh. All of which saw us, despite our win over Canberra, at an almost disappointing eighth. Being there is the only thing, and our last finals experience in 2011 took us all the way to the final from the same spot, so why not again? It’s doubtful even if I wish I could say differently, but I cannot see it happening.

Sir Peter Leitch’s Mad Butcher Club AT MT SMART STADIUM, HOME OF THE MIGHTY VODAFONE WARRIORS 18 June 2015 Newsletter #77a To subscribe or unsubscribe email: [email protected] Photos courtesy of www.photosport.co.nz ELL WHAT a night on Wednesday night at the State of Origin OVER 90,000 fans were treated to a Wtop game! Everyone was on the edge of their seats right until the very end and the NRL could not have asked for a better result for the third and final game in Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium on the 8th of July. You can guarantee the remaining tickets will fly out quicker than a Mad Butcher sausage at a free sausage sizzle and the TV viewing will rocket through the roof so bring it on! And YES the Butcher and Dexter will be there. Melbourne's a lovely place and it was very pleasing to see plenty of Vodafone Warriors fans chilling in Mel- bourne proudly wearing the club colors. Janice has given the credit card a fair whack and to be fair I might just have to go back to work to pay it off! (good on her). But now its goodbye Melbourne and Gold Coast here we come for the VODAFONE WARRIORS v GOLD COAST TITANS this SATURDAY AT CBUS STADIUM – I can't wait to meet all our fans up on the Gold Coast. Our 2 State of Origin players are raring to go – I spoke to Ryan Hoffman and Jacob Lillyman and its all go for them.
