Real Zaragoza V FC Utrecht La Romareda Stadium, Zaragoza 21/10/2004 20:45:00 (Local Time) UEFA Cup Group C, Matchday 1 Real Zaragoza v FC Utrecht MATCH OFFICIALS Referee Peter Sippel (GER) Assistant Referee Volker Wezel (GER) Assistant Referee Roland Greth (GER) Fourth Referee Hermann Albrecht (GER) UEFA Delegate Dusan Maravic (YUG) Referee Observer Walter Clarke (NIR) Reporter Javier Bielsa (ESP) MATCH BACKGROUND The 2003/04 domestic cup winners of Spain and the Netherlands meet for the first time in UEFA club competitions when Real Zaragoza host FC Utrecht on the opening matchday of the 2004/05 UEFA Cup group stage. Fourth encounter The match will be the fourth time that Zaragoza have been in opposition against clubs from the Netherlands. In the 1986/87 Cup Winners’ Cup semi-final Zaragoza lost the home leg to AFC Ajax 3-2, and 3-0 at Amsterdam, as Ajax went on to win the competition. Then in the 1994/95 season, Zaragoza met two Dutch clubs. They played Feyenoord in the quarter-finals of the Cup Winners’ Cup and, after Henrik Larsson had scored the only goal for the home side at Rotterdam, Zaragoza eventually won 2-1 on aggregate, and went on to win the tournament with Nayim’s spectacular shot in the 2-1 win against Arsenal FC. Super Cup defeat As Cup Winners’ Cup holders, Zaragoza then met UEFA Champions League winners AFC Ajax in the UEFA Super Cup, played over two legs in Februray 1996. The teams drew 1-1 at La Romareda, but Ajax proved too strong in the return leg with a 4-0 win after Danny Blind had notched a couple of late penalties. Limited experience Utrecht have only previously met one Spanish club, when in the 1991/92 UEFA Cup second round, Real Madrid CF proved too strong with a 3-1 win at Utrecht, followed a 1-0 home win. Anxious moments Both clubs had to survive major scares to reach the group stage. Zaragoza won their first round, first leg game against SK Sigma Olomouc 1-0, but were 2-0 down in the return leg before staging a fine recovery with three goals in the last 12 minutes to secure a 4-2 aggregate win. Utrecht waltzed through the first leg with a 4-0 win over Djurgårdens IF, but the Swedish champions won the return leg 3-0, as Utrecht were forced to hang on in the final minutes. DOMESTIC FORMGUIDE Real Zaragoza 18/10: Real Zaragoza's meeting with FC Utrecht at La Romareda promises goals. Zaragoza's seven league matches so far have delivered 28 of them - 13 for Víctor Muñoz's men at home, including Sunday's 2-1 triumph against Real Sociedad de Fútbol. That result lifted the northern Spanish club into seventh place, level on points with Club Atlético de Madrid in fourth. For the visit of Utrecht, Muñoz misses defender Luis Cuartero because of broken ribs. Goalkeeper César Laínez, meanwhile, is not quite fit enough despite recovering from knee surgery. 07/10: After a promising start in the Primera División, Real Zaragoza slipped down to ninth place as a result of their 2-0 defeat by Villarreal CF at the start of October. Zaragoza - who began the domestic season by winning the Spanish Super Cup against Valencia CF - opened their seventh UEFA Cup campaign by beating SK Sigma Olomouc in both legs of their 4-2 aggregate win. However, they will likely be missing captain Luis Carlos Cuartero until November after he fractured three ribs during a league game against Levante UD and are also without their regular goalkeeper. Luis García has been deputising for first-choice keeper César Láinez, who underwent an operation to remove a blood clot from his right knee in mid-September - though medical staff are confident that he will be back for the start of the UEFA Cup group stage when FC Utrecht visit on 21 October. FC Utrecht 18/10: Utrecht were surprising 3-0 losers at lowly FC Groningen on Sunday, ending their run of four straight league victories. Dutch international Dave van den Bergh was absent with a hamstring problem but could be fit to face Zaragoza, while Belgian international Stéphane Tanghe played despite a broken hand. 07/10: The Dutch Cup holders have had a fine start to the season - and provided plenty of excitement in the first round of this competition. Having overcome Djurgårdens IF 4-0 at home in the first leg, they conceded a goal within three minutes of the return in Sweden. When Tobias Hysén scored Djurgården's third goal nine minutes from time, there were hearts in mouths but Utrecht held on to squeak through 4-3 on aggregate. Still, in the Eredivisie, Utrecht have been in convincing form. After losing their first match against NAC Breda, Utrecht held AFC Ajax 1-1 in the Amsterdam ArenA, and then shocked Feyenoord 3-0 in Rotterdam. Then on 3 October, Foeke Booy's side fought back to beat RKC Waalwijk, having trailed 2- 0 with 30 minutes to go. Hans van de Haar scored twice in that match to take his season's tally to six goals and the only negative was a thigh injury to winger Dave van den Bergh, who had to withdraw from the Dutch national squad. An Investigation of Best Practices in Youth Development Programmes at Selected Football Academies in the Western Cape. By Ashley Ian Jacobs 2444431 A full thesis submitted in partial fulfilment for the Degree MAGISTER ARTIUM SPORT, RECREATION AND EXERCISE SCIENCE in the Department of Sport, Recreation and Exercise Science in the Faculty of Community and Health Sciences at the UNIVERSITY OF THE WESTERN CAPE Supervisor: Dr. Simone Titus October 2020 http://etd.uwc.ac.za/ Abstract Football around the globe has been used as a vehicle for youth development initiatives. Youth development programmes foster social change in communities and provide an ideal development context that often results in active sport participation. In South Africa, there are a number of youth development programmes that not only use football, but also other sporting codes to implement and create sustainable youth development programmes. Therefore, the aim of this study was to explore best practices in youth development programmes of selected football academies in the Western Cape. This study took place in the greater Cape Town area of the Western Cape and focused on selected football academies who administer youth development programmes. A qualitative approach was used to collect and analyse data for the study. Three key informant interviews and three focus group discussions were conducted with a total sample size of twenty-one participants from the three different academies. Focus group participants were purposively selected from the under fourteen, under sixteen and under eighteen teams from each football academy. The data from the study was collected and analysed through the lens of the Positive Youth Development perspective.

ABSTRACT As a burgeoning literature on high-speed rail development indicates, good station-area planning is a very important prerequisite for the eventual successful operation of a high-speed rail station; it can also trigger opportunities for economic development in the station area and the station-city. At the same time, “on the ground” experiences from international examples of high-speed rail stations can provide valuable lessons for the California high-speed rail system in general, and the San Jose Diridon station in particular.

NETHERLANDS v ITALY MATCH PRESS KIT Municipal, Aveiro Monday, 29 May 2006 - 19:45 local time Final tournament - Group phase Group B - Matchday 6 For two countries with rich heritage at all levels, it is perhaps surprising that when the Netherlands and Italy come face to face in the third and final round of Group B matches at the UEFA European Under-21 Championship, it will be their first competitive meeting. Italy sit top of the group with four points thanks to Giorgio Chiellini's added-time winner against Ukraine which followed their similarly dramatic 3-3 draw with Denmark. The Netherlands are still looking for their first victory after losing to Ukraine then drawing with Denmark, and must win to advance. • The countries have rarely come into opposition at youth level either, although when they have crossed paths it has invariably been a close contest. At the 2005 European U17 Championship hosts Italy won through to a semi-final against the Dutch but home advantage proved irrelevant on this occasion with Melvin Zaalman getting the only goal for the Netherlands in extra time. Italy had had the better of their four meetings at U16 level with three victories including a 6-1 triumph in the 1990 qualifying round and edged out the Dutch on penalties to reach the U18 finals in 1998/99, when they went on to the final before losing to Portugal. • At senior level perhaps their most significant meeting was in the semi-finals of UEFA EURO 2000™ when, on home soil, the Dutch missed two penalties in normal time against ten-man Italy with Frank de Boer and Patrick Kluivert both failing from the spot.

  • Clubs Without Resilience Summary of the NBA Open Letter for Professional Football Organisations
Clubs without resilience Summary of the NBA open letter for professional football organisations May 2019 Royal Netherlands Institute of Chartered Accountants The NBA’s membership comprises a broad, diverse occupational group of over 21,000 professionals working in public accountancy practice, at government agencies, as internal accountants or in organisational manage- ment. Integrity, objectivity, professional competence and due care, confidentiality and professional behaviour are fundamental principles for every accountant. The NBA assists accountants to fulfil their crucial role in society, now and in the future. Royal Netherlands Institute of Chartered Accountants 2 Introduction Football and professional football organisations (hereinafter: clubs) are always in the public eye. Even though the Professional Football sector’s share of gross domestic product only amounts to half a percent, it remains at the forefront of society from a social perspective. The Netherlands has a relatively large league for men’s professio- nal football. 34 clubs - and a total of 38 teams - take part in the Eredivisie and the Eerste Divisie (division one and division two). From a business economics point of view, the sector is diverse and features clubs ranging from listed companies to typical SME’s. Clubs are financially vulnerable organisations, partly because they are under pressure to achieve sporting success. For several years, many clubs have been showing negative operating results before transfer revenues are taken into account, with such revenues fluctuating each year. This means net results can vary greatly, leading to very little or even negative equity capital. In many cases, clubs have zero financial resilience. At the end of the 2017-18 season, this was the case for a quarter of all Eredivisie clubs and two thirds of all clubs in the Eerste Divisie.

BSc-Thesis – BMO Management strategies of football clubs in the Dutch Eredivisie Name Student: Mylan Pouwels Registration Number: 991110669120 University: Wageningen University & Research (WUR) Study: BBC (Business) Thesis Mentor: Jos Bijman Date: 1-23-2020 Chair Group: BMO Course Code: YSS-81812 Foreword From an early age I already like football. I like it to play football by myself, to watch it on television, but also to read articles about football. The opportunity to combine my love for football with a scientific research for my Bachelor Thesis, could not be better for me. During an orientating conversation about the topic for my Bachelor Thesis with my thesis mentor Jos Bijman, I mentioned that I was always interested in the management strategies of organizations. What kind of choices an organization makes, what kind of resources an organization uses, what an organization wants to achieve and its performances. Following closely this process in large organizations is something I like to do in my leisure time. My thesis mentor Jos Bijman asked for my hobbies and he mentioned that there was a possibility to combine my interests in the management strategies of organizations with my main hobby football. In this way the topic Management strategies of football clubs in the Dutch Eredivisie was created. The Bachelor Thesis Management strategies of football clubs in the Dutch Eredivisie is executed in a qualitative research, using a literature study. This Thesis is written in the context of my graduation of the study Business-and Consumer Studies (specialization Business) at the Wageningen University and Research. From October 28 2019 until January 23 I have been working on the research and writing of my Thesis.
