Angel Sanctuary. Heaven never looked so good. Sparrow Updated: 14 May pm. I've always been fascinated with stories of angels, devils and the ongoing war between good and evil in the Christian religion, and by the time I'd closed this collection of artwork from the series, I was mentally kicking myself for not getting started with it sooner. Unapologetically loaded with pictures of bishonen youth, doe-eyed girls with intricate dresses, and the occasional compromising position, it's still not going to be enough to alienate any fan of good manga artwork, no matter what their actual preference may be. I was absolutely blown away with each turn of the page, figuring it couldn't get any more brilliant, and was proven wrong every time. If I had any complaint, it would be that the artwork doesn't go on long enough in this page book. If you're an art student of any stripe, this is a book that belongs on your shelf. And if you're a fan of the series, the true value of this book begins on page 54, with great character biographies, plot summaries and panels taken from some of the better moments of the series. You'll also learn creator Kaori Yuki's theory on the nature of angels and the rules of devils and demons, and how those govern the series. There's a section devoted to the various title pages 's created, and an interview that includes some of her favorite panels. It's easy to want to pass this off as a mere art-book, but it's really more of an encyclopedia or compendium for the series. It's also enough of an introduction to make a complete newcomer like me wonder what I'd been missing all this time. Don't miss the opportunity to pick this book up, whether you're a fan of the series or not. Yuki is a true talent who deserves any recognition that can be thrown her way.
