This volume has been prepared in accordance vvith the provisions of Section 6 (1) of the Census Act (Northern Ireland), 1936, from the census returns made as at JJ?-idnight of the 28th February-1st March, 1937. The statistics contained herein supersede those contained in the Preliminary Report published in July, 1937, and may be regarded as final. The census which was taken in 1937 was a special one in the sense that it was limited .in .scope and was taken during the interval between normal census years, thus bndg1ng the gap between the 1926 census and the next full census. Certain ques~ions usually found on census schedules, such as those regarding occupation and Industry, were not asked, but a ne\v question as to usual residence \Vas in cluded for the first time. The 1937 census publications \Vill consist of :- 1. SEVEN CouNTY VoLUMES, each similar in design and scope. The smallest area for which statistics are given in the county volumes is the district electoral division, but statistics in respect of townlands, similar to those given in table 4, have been prepared in the Census Office and are available for reference upon application to the Registrar General.

  • The Registry Books Are Approximately
THETHE REGISTRYREGISTRY BOOKSBOOKS Page 2 Clifton Street Cemetery One of the most historically interesting facets of any burying ground are, without doubt, its registry books. Although the New Burying Ground was opened in 1797, it was not until 1831 that the Belfast Charitable Society began to keep a registry of all interments. It is unknown why they did not keep a registry from the beginning, but one reason may be that they were more interested in making money to finance the poor-house through the selling of the graves, than to worry about recording who was being buried in them. However at a meeting held in the poor-house on the 18th of December 1830 it was: Resolved -that a registry of all the interments in the Burying Ground of the Charitable Society be kept from the commencement of the next year, and that the Rev. Messrs Macartney and Hicks be requested to have a suitable book prepared for the purpose. The first burial recorded was on the 4th of January, 1831. However, the exact number of people buried in the burying ground before that will never be known. At a rough estimate it could be guessed that around 3,600 burials could have taken place before 1831. That is if up to 100 people had been buried per year, which was below the average amount of burials taking place throughout the 1830s. The figures shown in the three volumes of the registry books are approximately: Volume 1 1831-1841, 2,640 Volume 2 1841-1864, 5,489 Volume 3 1865-1984, 3,109 Add on the pre-1831 figures and the number of those buried in the New Burying Ground could be as high as 14,000.

  • 1 Additional Development Plan: Ballyclare Network Extension
Additional Development Plan: Ballyclare Network Extension Background: In 2002, BGE (Northern Ireland) was awarded the licence to construct and operate two transmission pipelines in Northern Ireland. In October 2004, the 115 km NW pipeline, connecting the Scotland to Northern Ireland Pipeline, (SNIP), to Coolkeeragh Power Station, was completed. The 156 km SN pipeline, connecting Gormanstown in Co. Meath to Ballyalbanagh in Co. Antrim was completed in October 2006. This pipeline forms a key component in the “All Island” energy market by linking the gas networks in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, thereby providing the opportunity for bi-directional security of supply. On 24 March 2005 (date of grant), firmus energy was formally awarded supply and distribution licences for the development of the natural gas network across 10 Development Areas. Ballyclare: firmus energy now wish to develop the gas network to the town of Ballyclare as an extension to Antrim. As per Condition 3.1 of the distribution licence, this Additional Development Plan seeks that the Electoral Wards of Parkgate, Doagh, Ballyclare North, Ballyclare South and Ballyrobert be designated as Additional Development Areas, thereby allowing firmus to develop the network in these areas. Capital work is planned to commence in 2011, beginning with the construction of a feeder pipeline from Antrim. Some connections are anticipated in 2011; more connections will follow in subsequent years as the Ballyclare network develops further (see Annual Targets below). Annual Targets: The network in Ballyclare is expected to pass 3,500 properties. Forecast annual target connections are set out below.
