Klíčová slova Východ – Západ – manželství – obřad – tradice – ekumenismus – intereklesiální – církevní soud 3 Abstract Impacts of diversity of rites on matrimonial cases at ecclesiastical courts. Christianity spread in different directions from Jerusalem. One of its most influential centers established in Rome, which became also the seat popes, and remained so even after the relocation of the emperor in Constantinople (at the time of Greek). Apart from Rome, linked to the apostle Peter, however, there were some large Christian communities founded by other apostles. These communities, located to the east of Roman Empire, were called also the Church as the Roman one. And so nowadays except the largest Latin (Roman) Church, there are dozens of the Eastern Churches, and they rightly pride on its own apostolic tradition. Throughout history, disrupting their communications with Rome occurred several times, but also with each other. Currently, when a large migration waves occur for various reasons, some ecclesiastical communities, so far regarded as strictly east, get into the Diaspora with the Latin Church. This creates not only a high probability of growth of mixed intereclesiastic marriages but also to increase the amount of matrimonial cases, which ecclesiastical court will have to deal with subsequently. In order to make its ruling righteous, it is necessary to know both the history of the Eastern Churches, among them a twenty-two have been united with Rome (the Eastern Catholic Churches), and particularly their theological specifics, spirituality and particular law. This thesis aspires to deal with all these aims, and in its conclusion, it compares a view of the unified and ununified Christian East with a view of the Latin West both to marriage concluding, as well as to its disintegration and termination. Keywords East - West - Marriage - Rite - Tradition - Ecumenism - Interecclesial - Ecclesiastical Court Počet znaků (včetně mezer): 731 152 4 Poděkování Kromě profesora Antonína Hrdiny, který byl v uplynulých letech nejen mým školitelem a vedoucím práce, ale též velkým vzorem právníka, teologa a pedagoga, patří zvláštní dík profesorům dr. Van Dam Associate Professor Diane Owen Hughes © Alexander Borislavov Angelov 2011 To my mother Irina with all my love and gratitude ii Acknowledgements To put in words deepest feelings of gratitude to so many people and for so many things is to reflect on various encounters and influences. In a sense, it is to sketch out a singular narrative but of many personal “conversions.” So now, being here, I am looking back, and it all seems so clear and obvious. But, it is the historian in me that realizes best the numerous situations, emotions, and dilemmas that brought me where I am. I feel so profoundly thankful for a journey that even I, obsessed with planning, could not have fully anticipated. In a final analysis, as my dissertation grew so did I, but neither could have become better without the presence of the people or the institutions that I feel so fortunate to be able to acknowledge here. At the University of Michigan, I first thank my mentor John Fine for his tremendous academic support over the years, for his friendship always present when most needed, and for best illustrating to me how true knowledge does in fact produce better humanity.

The Holy See ADDRESS OF THE HOLY FATHER POPE FRANCIS TO HIS HOLINESS POPE TAWADROS II, POPE OF ALEXANDRIA AND PATRIARCH OF THE SEE OF ST. MARK, HEAD OF THE COPTIC ORTHODOX CHURCH OF EGYPT Friday, 10 May 2013 Χριστός ανέστη Your Holiness, Dear Brothers in Christ, For me it is a great joy and a truly graced moment to be able to receive all of you here, at the tomb of Saint Peter, as we recall that historic meeting forty years ago between our predecessors, Pope Paul VI and the late Pope Shenouda III, in an embrace of peace and fraternity, after centuries in which there was a certain distance between us. So it is with deep affection that I welcome Your Holiness and the distinguished members of your delegation, and I thank you for your words. Through you, I extend my cordial greetings in the Lord to the bishops, the clergy, the monks and the whole Coptic Orthodox Church. Today’s visit strengthens the bonds of friendship and brotherhood that already exist between the See of Peter and the See of Mark, heir to an inestimable heritage of martyrs, theologians, holy monks and faithful disciples of Christ, who have borne witness to the Gospel from generation to generation, often in situations of great adversity. Forty years ago the Common Declaration of our predecessors represented a milestone on the ecumenical journey, and from it emerged a Commission for Theological Dialogue between our Churches, which has yielded good results and has prepared the ground for a broader dialogue between the Catholic Church and the entire family of Oriental Orthodox Churches, a dialogue that continues to bear fruit to this day.

These words “I of the great Greek Philosopher Plato in brief summarises this first edition of the refurbished “Catholic India” information magazine of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India. The Catholic Bishops’ Conference as the apex body of the Catholic Church in India through its Office Bearers and its various offices continuously conducts programmes and activities in favour of society and for the animation of the Church in India. Many of these activities which our Bishops, Fathers and Sisters do, not by accident, but through hard work and much effort are regularly reported on ourwebsite https://www.cbci.in . Over the last 15 months, the website has been visited by over three million surfers. The newsletter Catholic India which now comes out both as an electronic edition as well as a printed one provides just the gist of a few of the activities/happenings/events with a link to the detailed report on the website. This is a novel experiment to make the website news easily accessible to our friends, benefactors and well-wishers interested in our activities. We take this opportunity to thank all those who have made it possible to bring forth this publication. In particular my sincere thanks to Fr.
