Separate forms are required for Industrial Section, Dog Show, Best Crop Competition and the Vintage Vehicle Section; these may be obtained from the Secretary. Entry forms, properly filled up and signed by the exhibitor or his agent, together with the correct entry money and membership subscription (where appropriate) must be lodged with the Secretary of the Association by the following dates: Ladies, Gents/Young Persons Section: 8th May 2019 Best Crop Competition: 5th July 2019 Livestock Classes: Friday 17th May 2019 Angus Truck Show: Saturday 25th May 2019 Every attempt has been made to fix these closing dates as near as is possible to the date of the Show. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WILL LATE ENTRIES BE ACCEPTED. For reasons of accuracy telephone entries will not be accepted. Exhibitors are earnestly requested to make certain that entry forms include all the necessary information INCLUDING THEIR NAME AND ADDRESS. PLEASE PRINT CLEARLY. ACTIVITIES The organisers of the J.A.C. are again arranging two competitions at the show, namely a Stock judging competition and Valuation competition. Competitive classes, except where otherwise stated, are open to all comers. Stock must be the bona fide property of the exhibitor, and in his actual possession for at least sixty days prior to the date of the Show. 2. Where reference is made to ANGUS, this will be taken as the old county of Angus. 3. Animals suffering from any form of contagious or infectious disease must not be brought to the Show. 4. The Committee reserves the right to refuse any entry they may think fit to exclude, to cancel any entry made, or to prohibit the exhibition of any entry. 5. STOCK NOT IN THE PRINTED CATALOGUE may not compete, unless it can be shown that such omission has not been occasioned by the exhibitor. SUBSTITUTION OF NAMED ENTRIES IN ANY SECTION WILL NOT BE PERMITTED, and should there be any such substitution, any resulting award will be forfeited. This is with the exception of Light Legged Horses entering on the day 6. Exhibitors must enter stock to be shown by sending signed entry forms to the Secretary. IT IS SPECIALLY REQUESTED THAT THE PEDIGREE OF ALL PURE BRED CATTLE AND HORSES (WHERE KNOWN) BE SHOWN. 7. Animals entered in stock classes will be allowed to compete in more than one class, unless where stated otherwise, provided that this does not result in any delay in the judging. 8. Orders for admission to the Showground will be sent to exhibitors by the Secretary as soon as the catalogue is completed. UNLESS AN ORDER FOR EACH LOT IS PRODUCED AT THE STOCK GATE ON THE MORNING OF THE SHOW NO ADMISSION WILL BE ALLOWED. 9. Stock must be placed in the Showground at least

Starting at Forfar Loch Country Park, turn right and then take an immediate left onto Manor Street. Turn right onto Castle Street and then turn left at the T junction to Arbroath. Go straight on at the traffic lights and bear left to Brechin. Continue for 8.1km/4.9m to Aberlemno to visit the Pictish stones opposite the school. Retrace the route and turn left at the sign for Pitkennedy after 100 metres. Continue for 0.9km/0.6m and turn left at the sign for Pitkennedy. Turn left again after 0.1km. Continue for 2.8km/1.7m and turn left at the T junction. After 1km/0.6m, turn right. After a further 1km/0.6m, turn right at the T junction. After 4.1km/2.5m, go straight on at the crossroads crossing the B9113 to Balgavies. Turn right after 1.6km/1m. Turn right again at the T junction on to the A932. At the sign for Trumperton Tea Room, turn left.

It lists former Fellows from the foundation of the Society in 1783 to October 2002. Most are deceased Fellows up to and including the list given in the RSE Directory 2003 (Session 2002-3) but some former Fellows who left the Society by resignation or were removed from the roll are still living. HISTORY OF THE PROJECT Information on the Fellowship has been kept by the Society in many ways – unpublished sources include Council and Committee Minutes, Card Indices, and correspondence; published sources such as Transactions, Proceedings, Year Books, Billets, Candidates Lists, etc. All have been examined by the compilers, who have found the Minutes, particularly Committee Minutes, to be of variable quality, and it is to be regretted that the Society’s holdings of published billets and candidates lists are incomplete. The late Professor Neil Campbell prepared from these sources a loose-leaf list of some 1500 Ordinary Fellows elected during the Society’s first hundred years. He listed name and forenames, title where applicable and national honours, profession or discipline, position held, some information on membership of the other societies, dates of birth, election to the Society and death or resignation from the Society and reference to a printed biography.

The ruin is completely surrounded by lairs. The lairs are in lines on a north / south axis as is the norm for a Scottish Kirkyard, making the stones face east / west. The stones are identified by one or two letters followed by a 2 digit number. The letter(s) identify the row, while the numbers identify the stones counting southwards from the north end of the row. The single letter is used in the south west section, while the two letters beginning E are for the south east section. The two letters the same are for the extension at the northern half of the churchyard. This method of identification is for this publication only. All dates used in this text are written in day number, then months written in full, followed by the years in four digits.

    Proc Soc Antiq Scot, 131 (2001), 223–239 The date and context of the Glamis, Angus, carved Pictish stones Lloyd Laing* ABSTRACT The widely accepted eighth-century dating for the Pictish relief-decorated cross-slabs known as Glamis 2 and Glamis 1 is reviewed, and an alternative ninth-century date advanced for both monuments. It is suggested that the carving on front and back of Glamis 2 was contemporaneous, and that both monuments belong to the Aberlemno School. GLAMIS 2 DESCRIPTION The Glamis 2 stone (Allen & Anderson’s scheme, 1903, pt III, 3–4) stands in front of the manse at Glamis, Angus, and its measurements — 2.76 m by 1.5 m by 0.24 m — make it one of the larger Class II slabs. It is probably a re-used Bronze Age standing stone as there appear to be some cup- marks incised on the base of the cross face. Holes have been drilled in the relatively recent past at the base of the sides, presumably for support struts. Viewed from the front (cross) face the slab is pedimented, the ornament being partly incised, partly in relief (illus 1). The cross is in shallow relief, has double hollow armpits and a ring delimited by incised double lines except in the bottom right hand corner, where the ring is absent. It is decorated with interlace, with a central interlaced roundel on the crossing. The interlace on the cross-arms and immediately above the roundel is zoomorphic. At the top of the pediment is a pair of beast heads, now very weathered, with what may be a human head between them, in low relief.

    Maritime Trail Walk in the steps of your ancestors www.angusheritage.com The Angus coastline is about 35 miles long, from north of Montrose to the outskirts of Dundee. When roads were poor, goods and people were carried along the coast by ship, and over a dozen distinct communities in Angus made their living from the vibrant and bustling coast. But the sea could be dangerous and unpredictable and many lives were lost through shipwrecks and storms. All Angus coastal settlements began as small villages, with residents earning part of their income from fishing. This fluctuated over time. Fishing villages grew if the conditions were right. Boats needed to be safe when not at sea, perhaps sailed into natural inlets on the rocky coast or hauled onto shingle beaches. Families needed ground where they could build houses with easy access to the shore, with somewhere Montrose harbour to land catches, prepare fish for sale and maintain boats, nets and lines. Houses could be built on narrow plots between the sea and coastal cliffs, or above those cliffs, with steep paths leading to the landing area. Some communities built harbours, providing shelter for moored boats and sites for fish markets and other maritime businesses. Montrose is a town that thrived as a seaport Montrose Basin - once known as the Land on the edge of rich farmland. The town’s of Sands - was a source of bait for fishing motto; Mare Ditat, Rosa Decorat (the sea communities along the Angus coastline. The enriches, the rose adorns) reflects its nature as shallow water, and regular exposure of sands, a trading town.
