UNIVERSITY TEACHING EXPERIENCE

1999-Present: Senior Lecturer of Communications Director of Theatre Augusta State University (A.S.U.), Augusta, GA

Courses Taught:

Stage Combat Introduces the fundamental techniques of stage fighting with respect to contemporary violence as well as classical combat. The course covers a wide range of fighting styles with special attention to safety and verisimilitude. In addition, the course examines the acting, directing, and fight choreography associated with the various styles of performance.

Stagecraft Exposes the technical theatre artist to the various components of stagecraft with emphasis on scene design, light design, sound design and special effects. Placed within a theoretical as well as practical context, the students learn the history of style and the fundamentals of construction.

Modern Drama Explores a catalogue of traditional and avant-garde plays and dramatic criticism of the Modern period emphasizing textual analysis within the context of social and political movements, genre, and style.

Acting I: Acting Workshop Prepares novel performers for the craft of acting through vocal training, movement, improvisation, scene study, and character analysis.

Acting II: Scene Study Implements various methods of actor preparation into scene study and performance with particular emphasis on Constantin Stanislavski and

Michael Chekov.

Theatre History I Surveys the history of theatre with respect to the evolution of dramatic literature from the primitives to the Elizabethan era.

Theatre History II Surveys the history of theatre with respect to the evolution of dramatic literature from the Elizabethans to the modern era.

Introduction to the Theatre Initiates the student into the various aspects of theatre.

Introduction to Communication Introduces the elements of human communication with emphasis on interpersonal and intrapersonal communication, public speaking, and mass communication.

Communication and Culture Provides a historical background as well as a contemporary overview of the mass media within our culture.

Fundamentals of Human Communication Provides an introduction to communication theory and the elements of public speaking. This course also instructs students in interpersonal and intrapersonal communication as well as organizational communication. In addition, students gain valuable experience in critical thinking and listening techniques.

1998-99: Griffin Technical Institute, Griffin, GA Instructed degree-track students on the fundamental concepts of speech communication.

1996-98: Instructor Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA Effective Speech Taught undergraduate courses in speech communication. The course instructed students on the organization, preparation, and presentation of professional speeches.

Teaching Assistant Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA Problems in Directing Assisted instructor in establishing a fund of theoretical and practical knowledge for prospective undergraduate directors. Organized class activities and periodically served as course instructor.

ARTISTIC LEADERSHIP

2018 Porter Fleming Foundation Grant Awarded to adapt Here to Get My Baby Out of Jail by Louise Shivers into a stage performance.

2006- 2015 Le Chat Noir, Augusta Georgia Artistic Director/Co-owner Founder. Selects the theatrical season and directors yearly; produces and directs specific productions; handles publicity and marketing for individual shows as well as developing the overall image of Le Chat Noir; acts as liaison between Le Chat Noir and the Augusta Community.

2008 Greater Augusta Arts Council Professional Artist Award

2009-Present Augusta State University Director of Theatre Creates and adheres to annual budgets; heads the committee to plan the theatrical season; directs student productions; serves as Senior Project Advisor; acts as liaison between ASU and the Augusta Community.

1999-Present Storyland Theatre, Augusta GA Board of Directors Director, Fight Choreographer and Actor beginning 1999. Invited to join the Board of Directors in 2004. Consults on casting and production decisions, and on determining the theatrical season.
