The pandemic has made essential self distancing and quarantining to arrest the spread of the Corona virus. As a result, most APS activities have been shelved for the time being. Being in isolation at home has been a mixed blessing. -

White Box-Yellow Box-Blakely’s Red Gum Grassy Woodland and Derived Native Grassland Ecological Community Species List White Box-Yellow Box-Blakely’s Red Gum Grassy Woodland and Derived Native Grassland Ecological Community Species List This species list is designed to provide information about plant species that can be found in the White Box-Yellow Box-Blakely’s Red Gum Grassy Woodland and Derived Native Grassland ecological community listed under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. The species list was developed to complement the Listing Information Guide, and should be read in that context. It provides information on scientific and common names of the species, the kind of plant the species is, whether it is an ‘important’ species for the purposes of this ecological community and whether it is exotic or native, perennial or annual. The list is not exhaustive and not all of the species listed will occur in every patch of White Box-Yellow Box-Blakely’s Red Gum Grassy Woodland and Derived Native Grassland. If there are any species that you think should be added to the list, removed from the list, or that are categorised incorrectly, please contact [email protected]. Types of all Hoya species occurring in Borneo and their synonyms are indicated and clarified. Forty-six lectotypes, nine neotypes and five epitypes are designated. Keywords. Brunei, epitype, holotype, Kalimantan, lectotype, neotype, Sabah, Sarawak Introduction The present paper is a precursor to a revision of Hoya R.Br. of Borneo. Its aim is to list all Hoya taxa occurring on the island of Borneo and their synonyms, clarify and standardize type citation, select lectotypes, epitypes and neotypes when necessary and provide an extensive list of isotypes and syntypes. The earliest description of a Hoya species that occurs in Borneo, H. multiflora Blume, was described by the German born Dutch botanist Carl Ludwig Blume in 1823, based, however, on Javanese materials. The first Hoya species based on a Bornean collection, H. imperialis Lindl., was published by Lindley (1846). Later, in 1880, Bentham published a peculiar leafless species with long photosynthetic peduncles endemic to Borneo, Astrostemma spartioides Benth. (now Hoya spartioides (Benth.) Kloppenb.). Until 1921 only nine Hoya species where known to occur in Borneo (Merrill, 1921). Nutt (2001) listed 21 species in an unpublished checklist. Lamb et al. (2014) estimated 60–70 species for Sabah alone. In the past 20 years almost 40 taxa (species and subspecies) of Hoya from Borneo have been described, mostly by Ted Green and Dale Kloppenburg (USA). -

Development of community-based monitoring methods for coastal dunes of the Bay of Plenty Region David Bergin and Michael Bergin Environmental Restoration Ltd June 2018 Papamoa College students surveying vegetation cover on the foredunes along a transect, Papamoa Beach A contract report prepared for the Bay of Plenty Regional Council by Environmental Restoration Ltd. This project has been undertaken in collaboration with the Coastal Restoration Trust of New Zealand and their research partners. For the Bay of Plenty coastal dunes, monitoring methods were developed with assistance and in collaboration with Chris Ward, Shay Dean, Courtney Bell and Hamish Dean of the Bay of Plenty Regional Council. 1 Scope and content of this report The Bay of Plenty Regional Council (BOPRC) was one of the first councils to adopt a community‐ based approach to dune management in New Zealand following programmes that were initiated widely in New South Wales in the 1980s and expanded to other parts of Australia (Dahm et al. 2005). Extensive programmes now operate in many regions throughout New Zealand. In the Bay of Plenty region there are currently community Coast Care groups located from Waihi Beach in the west to Whangaparaoa on the east of the region involved in various aspects of dune restoration and management (Figure 1). They are formed by partnerships between the local community, iwi, district councils, the Department of Conservation and BOPRC working together to protect and restore beaches and coastal dunes (www.boprc.govt.nz/residents‐and‐ communities/care‐groups/coast‐care/). The Coast Care groups around the BOP region are involved in a wide range of activities to help protect the coastline, restore natural dune form and function, and are increasing awareness of coastal hazards and climate change in local communities. -

Festuca orthophylla (Iru-Ichu) es una gramínea perenne en macollos con hojas acuminadas punzantes, de crecimiento radial. Los macollos más viejos presentan la parte central declinada y forma áreas anulares de césped, un detalle señalado también por TROLL (1941). Parastrephia lepidophylla puede considerarse como una especie asociada bastante frecuente. En algunas áreas, Parastrephia muestra mayor número de ejemplares que Festuca. En estos casos se podría hablar de una formación arbustiva en escala pequeña (matorral). Parastrephia lepidophylla se presenta en forma aislada también en la puna de Festuca dolichophylla. Parastrephia, al igual que muchas especies micrófilas y también muy resinosas de Baccharis, se cuenta entre las tolas. Diferentes topónimos y nombres de lugares (en el área limítrofe entre Arque y Bolívar) probablemente señalan la presencia de Parastrephia: cerro Thola Loma, estancia Thola Pampa, Thola Pata Pampa. En las depresiones, donde los suelos son más húmedos, se presentan típicamente los cojínes planos de Azorella diapensioides. También SEIBERT MENHOFER (1991, 1992) consideran esta especie como indicadora de humedad ligeramente elevada del suelo. Lachemilla pinnata y Sporobolus indicus, conocidos indicadores de humedad, son plantas asociadas características. Casi todas las plantas representativas de esta comunidad fueron también encontradas en la puna de gramíneas en macollo de Festuca dolichophylla. 4.3. Comunidades de malezas En cuanto el hombre priva las superficies de vegetación natural para cultivar en ellas, se establecen otras plantas de crecimiento espontáneo, que a veces pueden competir con las plantas cultivadas o dificultar la cosecha de las mismas, por lo que son indeseadas por el hombre 10. -

FLORA CATEGORY Vascular – Exotic STRUCTURAL CLASS Grasses NVS CODE CORSEL BRIEF DESCRIPTION Robust tussock with tall erect flowering stems bearing dense heads of white to pale pink flowers. HABITAT Terrestrial. A coastal and lowland plant found between sea level and 800 metres. Plant grows in sites of all levels of fertility from low to high. The plant grows in a wide variety of soils from pumice and coastal sands to Plimmerton. Jun 2006. Photographer: Jeremy heavy clay (Ford 1993). Coloniser of open ground (West, 1996). A plant Rolfe that occurs in low or disturbed forest (including plantations), wetlands, grasslands, scrub, cliffs, coastlines, islands, forest margins, riverbanks, shrubland, open areas, roadsides and sand dunes. The plant’s primary habitat is disturbed ground. FEATURES Large-clump-forming grass to 4 m+. Leaf base smooth or sparsely hairy, no white waxy surface (cf. toetoe - Austroderia - species). Leaves with conspicuous midrib which does not continue into leaf base, no secondary veins between midrib and leaf edge. Leaves bluish-green above, dark green below, snap across readily when folded and tugged (toetoe species have multiple ribs in the leaves, making the leaves difficult to snap across). Dead leaf bases spiral like wood shavings, which makes pampas grasses more flammable than toetoe species. Flower head erect, dense, fluffy, white-pinkish, fading to dirty white, (Jan)-Mar-Jun. SIMILAR TAXA Can be separated from native Austroderia (toetoe) by the prominent single midrib on the leaves (Austroderia species have several prominent veins.). -
Rare Or Threatened Vascular Plant Species of Wollemi National Park, Central Eastern New South Wales
Rare or threatened vascular plant species of Wollemi National Park, central eastern New South Wales. Stephen A.J. Bell Eastcoast Flora Survey PO Box 216 Kotara Fair, NSW 2289, AUSTRALIA Abstract: Wollemi National Park (c. 32o 20’– 33o 30’S, 150o– 151oE), approximately 100 km north-west of Sydney, conserves over 500 000 ha of the Triassic sandstone environments of the Central Coast and Tablelands of New South Wales, and occupies approximately 25% of the Sydney Basin biogeographical region. 94 taxa of conservation signiicance have been recorded and Wollemi is recognised as an important reservoir of rare and uncommon plant taxa, conserving more than 20% of all listed threatened species for the Central Coast, Central Tablelands and Central Western Slopes botanical divisions. For a land area occupying only 0.05% of these divisions, Wollemi is of paramount importance in regional conservation. Surveys within Wollemi National Park over the last decade have recorded several new populations of signiicant vascular plant species, including some sizeable range extensions. This paper summarises the current status of all rare or threatened taxa, describes habitat and associated species for many of these and proposes IUCN (2001) codes for all, as well as suggesting revisions to current conservation risk codes for some species. For Wollemi National Park 37 species are currently listed as Endangered (15 species) or Vulnerable (22 species) under the New South Wales Threatened Species Conservation Act 1995. An additional 50 species are currently listed as nationally rare under the Briggs and Leigh (1996) classiication, or have been suggested as such by various workers. Seven species are awaiting further taxonomic investigation, including Eucalyptus sp. -

Possibly in the North Island, east of Cape Palliser. Naturalised in Tasmania. HABITAT Abundant, from the coast to subalpine areas. Common along stream banks, river beds, around lake margins, and in other wet places. Also found in sand dunes, especially along the Foveaux Strait. FEATURES Tall, gracile, slender tussock-forming grass up to 3 m tall when flowering. Leaf sheath glabrous, green, covered in white wax. Ligule 3.5 mm. Collar brown, basally glabrous, upper surface with short, stiff hairs surmounting ribs. Leaf blade 2-3 x 0.25 m, green, dark-green, often somewhat glaucous, upper side with thick weft of hairs at base, otherwise sparsely hairy up midrib with abundant, minute prickle teeth throughout. Undersurface with leaf with 5 mm long hairs near leaf margins, otherwise harshly scabrid. Culm up to 3 m, inflorescence portion up to 1 m tall, pennant-shaped, drooping, narrowly plumose. Spikelets numerous, 25 mm with 3 florets per spikelet. Glumes equal, > or equal to florets, 1- or 3-nerved. Lemma 10 mm, scabrid.
