The tour will visit Manchester, Bradford, Blackpool, Northampton, Aylesbury, Birmingham, Glasgow, Liverpool, Malvern and Brighton with further locations to be announced soon. The tour will extend into 2021 and follows two extremely successful tours in 2015/16 and 2017/18. On-sale dates and further updates will be available in due course via the website: http://www.hairsprayuktour.com/ Featuring the iconic music and lyrics by Academy Award, Tony and Emmy winning duo Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, this much-loved musical comedy is choreographed by Olivier Award-winning Drew McOnie with direction from Paul Kerryson. It’s Baltimore 1962, where Tracy Turnblad, a big girl with big hair and an even bigger heart, is on a mission to follow her dreams and dance her way onto national TV. Tracy’s audition makes her a local star and soon she is using her new-found fame to fight for equality, bagging local heartthrob Link Larkin along the way. Hairspray is a musical based on the 1988 film of the same name which starred Divine and Ricki Lake by cult filmmaker John Waters. With music and lyrics by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman and book by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan, Hairspray originally opened to rave reviews on Broadway in 2002 and subsequently won eight Tony Awards. The production opened in London at the Shaftesbury Theatre in 2007 and won four Laurence Olivier Awards including Best New Musical. Proving to be an international success, Hairspray has also opened in South Africa, Japan, South Korea, China and Dubai. Following the musical’s phenomenal success on stage, a film of the musical was released in 2007 which starred John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer and James Marsden. -ENDS- For further information please contact The Corner Shop PR on 020 7831 7657 NOTES TO EDITORS CREATIVE TEAM Director: Paul Kerryson Choreographer: Drew McOnie Lighting Designer: Philip Gladwell Sound Designer: Ben Harrison JOHN WATERS (Original Screenplay) John Waters is an American film director, writer and artist who came to prominence in the 1970s and has built a reputation for shocking his audiences through his exploration of contemporary American culture. • An Afternoon on Broadway Marks the Beginning of the Band’S 33Rd Season
Purpose and History The Community Band of Brevard exists to educate its members, to entertain its audiences, and to serve its community. Our musical director is Mr. Marion Scott. Mr. Scott formed the Band in 1985 to provide a performance outlet for adult musicians in the area. Our membership, currently numbering about 80, includes people of all ages representing many occupations. Most of our concerts have a specific theme upon which the music focuses. Those themes have often led us to include exceedingly difficult works, which we willingly do, and to include special guest artists. The Band gives several concerts throughout the year. Our concerts include many diverse musical genres, composers, and often previously unpublished works for band. Each program is planned to please a variety of musical tastes. If you would like more information about the Band, or wish to join, send us a message to [email protected] or contact David Scarborough at (321) 338-6210. • Rachel Chavkin Takes on Broadway
Arts & Humanities High Art, High Ideals: Rachel Chavkin Takes on Broadway The Tony Award-winning director of Hadestown may be theater’s most forward- thinking artist. By Stuart Miller '90JRN | Fall 2019 Zack DeZon / Getty Images Making her way to the stage of Radio City Music Hall to accept the 2019 Tony Award for best direction of a musical, Rachel Chavkin ’08SOA was thinking about time. She had all of ninety seconds to get to the microphone and deliver her speech, which was written on a much-creased piece of paper folded in her hands. Seven months pregnant, Chavkin, thirty-eight, was not about to sprint. As she told Columbia Magazine days later, “I warned my husband: if they call my name, I won’t have time to hug you!” Hadestown, an enthralling, profoundly moving retelling of the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, would, by night’s end, capture eight awards, including best original score and best musical. The accolades were not only hard won — Chavkin, a leading light of experimental theater, and Anaïs Mitchell, a singer-songwriter from Vermont, shaped and refined Hadestown for seven years — but also, some might say, overdue. In seventy-three years of the Tony Awards (named after Antoinette Perry, an actress, director, and theater advocate), Chavkin became just the fourth woman to win for best direction of a musical, joining Julie Taymor (The Lion King), Susan Stroman (The Producers), and Diane Paulus ’97SOA (Pippin). And in 2019, out of twelve new musicals on Broadway, Hadestown was the only one directed by a woman. The show, playing at the Walter Kerr Theatre on West 48th Street, is set mostly in a New Orleans–style barrelhouse at a time of economic and environmental decay.

  • Download Urinetown Theatre Program
From the Director Welcome to the UAH campus and thank you for joining us tonight. Now that the cold dark days of winter are fading, we are here to celebrate the coming of spring with a fun Broad- way musical. This talented and devoted cast of players, artists, directors and technicians have been toiling through the winter months to prepare this wonderful piece of theatre to share with you, our humble audience. UAH Theatre is proud to be a part of this rich artistic community and privileged to offer this creative study to our students. Please enjoy the show and be sure to tell your friends that we are here producing live theatre at Huntsville’s own University. David Harwell - Director About the Musical Winner of three Tony awards and one of the most uproariously funny musicals in recent years, URINETOWN is a hilarious tale of greed, corruption, love, and revolution in a time when water is worth its weight in gold. In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity’s most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides he’s had enough, and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom! Inspired by the works of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill, URINETOWN is an irreverently humorous satire in which no one is safe from scrutiny. Greg Kotis had the idea for Urinetown while traveling in Europe.

  • THE PRODUCERS Book by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan Music and Lyrics by Mel Brooks
THE PRODUCERS Book by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan Music and Lyrics by Mel Brooks Garland Summer Musicals Production Crew: Producer – Patty Granville Reviewed Performance 6/16/2017 Reviewed by Joel Gerard, Associate Critic for John Garcia's THE COLUMN If you’ve ever seen a Mel Brooks movie, then you should know what to expect from anything he writes. The Producers has raunchy humor with slightly offensive jokes about every race, sex, and religion. But above all else it’s also hilarious and fun. It won a record twelve Tony awards on Broadway, and Garland Summer Musicals is doing an award-worthy production right here in North Texas. The Producers is a musical Mel Brooks wrote based on his own movie “The Producers” from 1967 which starred the late Gene Wilder. Max Bialystock used to be the king of Broadway, but most of his shows are now flops that close as soon as they open. Max gets a visit from his accountant Leo Bloom who discovers that Max could potentially make more money from producing show that flops if he raises more money than he needs to produce the show. To ensure the show closes quickly, they collaborate to find an awful musical called “Springtime For Hitler”, hire a terrible director, and wait to pocket the money once the show fails. Of course things don’t go exactly as planned after opening night. Randy Pearlman plays Max Bialystock the down-on-his-luck Broadway producer looking to make some money. This is a fun role for any actor. Max is a zany character with questionable morals.
