The Center for Japanese Language and Culture, the College of Cross-Cultural and Multidisciplinary Studies offers various kinds of Japanese classes for international students and researchers at Kumamoto University. Message to Prospective International Students Kumamoto University is located in the heart of Kyushu Island, in the southern part of Japan. Kumamoto is characterized of what we call “RGB (Red, Green and Blue)”, the three primary colors of light. “Red” refers to the largest active volcano in Japan, Mt. Aso, which has been authorized as one of Japanese Geoparks. Also Kumamoto people are warm-hearted. “Green” represents “the Land of Forest”, which is rich in natural scenery and historic landscapes, including two National Parks of Japan. “Blue” leads to “the City of Water” for its abundant, pure and crystal-clean groundwater that earned Kumamoto City the “Water for Life” UN-Water Best Practice Award in 2013. At GSST, we have Global Joint Education Center for Science and Technology (GJEC), which promote international programs and offer lectures in English given by professors invited from overseas universities. Apart from academic programs we offer field trips for international students and social activities to promote exchanges with Japanese students. Even if I do encounter communication problems and difficulties in research, I have great support of my professor and Japanese friends in the laboratory, as well as other international students from Voice of Indonesia, Korea, Mongolia, Papua New Guinea, China, Tonga and other countries.
