Member of Irish Volunteers, Araglin (Co. Cork) 1914 -; 0/C. same Company, 1917 -; 0/C. 1st Battalion, Cork No. 2 Brigade, 1921. Subject. Activities of Irish Volunteers, Araglin (Co. Cork) 1914-1921. Conditions, if any Stipulated by Witness. Nil File No. S.2065 Form B.S.M.2 STATEMENT BY CON LEDDY, GORTNASKEHY, ARAGLIN. I was born in Araglin in 1891 in the house in which I am living. My people were farmers. 1914. I joined the National Volunteers at the inception of the Movement in Araglin in May, 1914. There had been no branch of the Volunteers, as such prior to this in our locality. There was not, to ray knowledge, any election of Officers, although we had a strength of fifty to sixty Volunteers after some months. A lad named Jerry Mulvey was one of the recognised local leaders at the time. Weekly parades were held mostly on Sundays, when an ex- soldier from Kilworth used to visit us regularly as a training instructor. These training parades were mostly confined to foot drill and open formations and extended order drills. We had no arms at this period, although some of individual farmers' - sons had shot-guns their own property. This training continued regularly for several months, until shortly after the outbreak of the Great War in 1914, but on the Sunday following John Redmond's speech in Woodenbridge I went along to a place called The Lawn where half our lads used to train, and found no one present.

  • Social Housing Construction Projects Status Report Q4 2019
Social Housing Construction Projects Status Report Q4 2019 May 2020 Rebuilding Ireland - Action Plan for Housing and Homelessness Quarter 4 of 2019: Social Housing Construction Status Report Rebuilding Ireland: Social Housing Targets Under Rebuilding Ireland, the Government has committed more than €6 billion to support the accelerated delivery of over 138,000 additional social housing homes to be delivered by end 2021. This will include 83,760 HAP homes, 3,800 RAS homes and over 50,000 new homes, broken down as follows: Build: 33,617; Acquisition: 6,830; Leasing: 10,036. It should be noted that, in the context of the review of Rebuilding Ireland and the refocussing of the social housing delivery programme to direct build, the number of newly constructed and built homes to be delivered by 2021 has increased significantly with overall delivery increasing from 47,000 new homes to over 50,000. This has also resulted in the rebalancing of delivery under the construction programme from 26,000 to 33,617 with acquisition targets moving from 11,000 to 6,830. It is positive to see in the latest Construction Status Report that 6,704 social homes are currently onsite. The delivery of these homes along with the additional 7,813 homes in the pipeline will substantially aid the continued reduction in the number of households on social housing waiting lists. These numbers continue to decline with a 5% reduction of households on the waiting lists between 2018 and 2019 and a 25% reduction since 2016. This progress has been possible due to the strong delivery under Rebuilding Ireland with over 100,000 (100,124) households supported to the end of Q4 2019 since Rebuilding Ireland in 2016.

  • Church of Ireland Parish Registers
National Archives Church of Ireland Parish Registers SURROGATES This listing of Church of Ireland parochial records available in the National Archives is not a list of original parochial returns. Instead it is a list of transcripts, abstracts, and single returns. The Parish Searches consist of thirteen volumes of searches made in Church of Ireland parochial returns (generally baptisms, but sometimes also marriages). The searches were requested in order to ascertain whether the applicant to the Public Record Office of Ireland in the post-1908 period was entitled to an Old Age Pension based on evidence abstracted from the parochial returns then in existence in the Public Record Office of Ireland. Sometimes only one search – against a specific individual – has been recorded from a given parish. Multiple searches against various individuals in city parishes have been recorded in volume 13 and all thirteen volumes are now available for consultation on six microfilms, reference numbers: MFGS 55/1–5 and MFGS 56/1. Many of the surviving transcripts are for one individual only – for example, accessions 999/562 and 999/565 respectively, are certified copy entries in parish registers of baptisms ordered according to address, parish, diocese; or extracts from parish registers for baptismal searches. Many such extracts are for one individual in one parish only. Some of the extracts relate to a specific surname only – for example accession M 474 is a search against the surname ”Seymour” solely (with related names). Many of the transcripts relate to Church of Ireland parochial microfilms – a programme of microfilming which was carried out by the Public Record Office of Ireland in the 1950s.

PhD Irish Studies 2013 - 2 - Acknowledgements My thanks to the University of Liverpool and, in particular, the Institute of Irish Studies for their support for this thesis and the funding which made this research possible. In particular, I would like to extend my thanks to my Primary Supervisor, Professor Marianne Elliott, for her immeasurable support, encouragement and guidance and to Dr Karyn Morrissey, Department of Geography, in her role as Second Supervisor. Her guidance and suggestions with regards to the overall framework and structure of the thesis have been invaluable. Particular thanks also to Dr Patrick Nugent who was my original supervisor. He has remained a friend and mentor and I am eternally grateful to him for the continuing enthusiasm he has shown towards my research. I am grateful to the British Association for Irish Studies who awarded a research scholarship to assist with research expenses. In addition, I would like to thank my Programme Leader at Liverpool John Moores University, Alistair Beere, who provided both research and financial support to ensure the timely completion of my thesis. My special thanks to Rev. Dr Tom Deenihan, Diocesan Secretary, for providing an invaluable letter of introduction in support of my research and to the many staff in parishes across the diocese for their help. I am also indebted to the people of Cork for their help, hospitality and time, all of which was given so freely and willingly. Particular thanks to Joe Creedon of Inchigeelagh and local archaeologist Tony Miller.
