During 2003, Dickens was in the SIAC as the Offensive Coordinator and Receiver Coach at Morehouse College in , Ga. Morehouse also led the conference in red-zone scoring efficiency and fourth-down conversions. In addition, Dickens served as the Co-Special Teams Coordinator.

In 2002, Dickens served as the Receiver Coach for the Canadian Football League’s British Columbia Lions in Surrey, B.C. He helped the team finish third in its division and qualify for the CFL playoffs while coaching the CFL Rookie of the Year.

The 2011 Thorobred Football team will be rebounding from a very disappointing 2010 season. Despite returning a roster boasting 16 Seniors and a wealth of experience, the 2010 Thorobreds were plagued by injuries and uncharacteristic errors which combined to lead to a 3-8 record, marked by several heartbreaking defeats. An atmosphere of determination and rededication in the offseason, strength training and conditioning program, buoyed by yet another solid recruiting class, set the stage for very productive spring practice. With these efforts continued through summer workouts, the Thorobreds look forward to Theanother Offense very competitive fall camp in preparation for the 2011 season.

In 2010, the Thorobred offense gained 3,303 yards in total offense, 1,497 yards rushing and 1,806 yards passing with 30 touchdowns.

The offensive unit boasts several players named to the 2010 All SIAC team. Senior signal caller, Jerrel Noland (Detroit, MI); 136 of 271 for 1734 yards and 15 TDs, TE Jovan Washington (Cleveland, OH); 23 catches for 176 yards and 3 touchdowns, and OL Jessie Mitchell (East St. Louis, IL), were recognized for their considerable contributions to the offensive effort in 2010 by being selected for the 2010 All-Conference teams. In addition, senior RB Andrew Ramsey (Atlanta, GA); 80 carries for 365 yards with 1 TD, and WR Raphael Amey (Dumfries, VA); 23 catches for 352 yards and 3 TDs, will lead their respective position groups.

With the loss of 16 seniors to graduation after the 2010 season, the 2011 Thorobreds will attempt to have youth carry a substantial share of the load at most positions on the field. The quarterback position will benefit from spirited competition for the backup role. Junior Martez James (Detroit, MI); 25 of 61 for 295 yards and 3 touchdowns in 2009 & 2010, and redshirt freshman Bo Brewer (Berea HS; Berea, KY) will be joined by newcomer Joey Pierce (Jeffersontown HS; Jeffersontown, KY) vying for the role.

In 2011, the receiving corps will be full of opportunity. Aside from senior Amey, there will be fierce competition by a wealth of young talent to fill the rotation at the receiver positions. An offseason injury to junior Kenny Ball (Detroit, MI) renders junior unavailable for the season. This will up the ante in the group. sophomores Troy Churchill (Louisville, KY), Vachel Hudson (Louisville, KY) and William Leach (Frankfort, KY) will compete with a talented trio of freshmen recruits; James Happy III (Georgetown, KY), Shy Heath Jr. (Louisville, KY) and Clayton Patton (Elizabethtown, KY), to carry the load at the position.

The tight end position will continue to be a strong one in 2011. Washington will lead the group with junior Vance Locke (Lafayette HS, Lexington, KY) who is prepared to be a solid contributor at the position. With a few newcomers trying to make an impression during camp, the group will be poised to be the deepest at the position in the conference.

The offensive line will be lead by Mitchell and senior Jared Garrett (Richmond, KY). Aggressive youngsters, sophomores Danny Horn (Louisville, KY), Ky’Ayre Hubert (Columbus, OH), Zach LaGrange (Goshen, KY) and Chad Rives (E. St. Louis, IL) gained valuable experience in 2010 and will compete to fill out the starting five. Several newcomers will use fall camp to prove worthy to fill out the travelling group. The job of opening the holes for the Thorobred ground attack will be in their capable hands.

Senior Andrew Ramsey will be joined in the backfield by transfer senior Markus Ramsey (Campbellsville U), sophomore Major Herron (Frankfort, KY) and freshmen Jacquise Lockett (Fulton City, KY) and Justin Williams (Coco Beach, FL) in competition for the job of carrying the pigskin in the ground game for the Thorobreds in 2011. Junior David Keown (Louisville, KY) and Morris Collins (Flint, MI) will be the prime candidates for the duty at the fullback position. The Defense

The defense had another strong campaign in 2010. The Kentucky State defense allowed opponents 3,466 yards of total offense, 1851 yards in rushing and 1615 yards in passing; slightly more generous than the nationally ranked Thorobred defense of 2009. The combination of continued youth in the lineup last season and an outstanding offseason and spring has the unit poised to make renewed improvement in 2011.

The linebacker position will be an area of strength for the Thorobreds. With the departure of perennial conference standout, Derrick Addai (Houston, TX), junior Gaige Courtney (Marion, KY); 34 tackles (2.5 TFL) and Deshon Best (Columbus, OH), 5 tackles (2 TFL), returning from season ending injury, combining with junior Josh Jackson (San Diego, CA) and Terry Horton (Haines City, FL) will form one of the most athletic units in the SIAC.

The secondary unit, which has gained a wealth of experience in 2009 and 2010, will prove to be one of the strongest units in the conference in 2011. Keith Massey (Columbus, OH); 17 tackles (.5 TFLs, 2 INTs), Grandson Brown (Atlanta, GA); 16 tackles (1 TFL, 1 INT) and Isaiah Adams (Cleveland, OH); 14 tackles, will provide aggressive coverage from the cornerback position. After an outstanding 2010, the returning leading tackler, junior Bernard Crawford (Atlanta, GA); 48 tackles (5 TFLs, 2 INTs), will lead a group of safeties who are eager to show their continued development. Joining Crawford will be juniors Anthony Benton (Cincinnati, OH); 19 tackles, 2 fumble recoveries and Cory Spalding (Florence, KY); 25 tackles (1.5 TFL, 1 INT). With the addition of several newcomers, this group should make significant contributions in improving the overall defense.

The defensive line will be the youngest, least experienced group on the defensive side of the line of scrimmage for the Thorobreds in 2011. With the departure of three of the four starters on the defensive line due to graduation, the experience will come from senior Stephen Scarborough (Indianapolis, IN); 26 tackles (3.5 TFL, .5 Sacks) and junior Carlos Ware (Cincinnati, OH); 24 tackles (8.5 TFLs, .5 Sacks). The youth movement started in 2010 will continue as sophomores Kenny Townsend (Louisville, KY); 5 tackles (1 TFL) and Alfred Gilbert, Jr. (Bowling Green, KY); 6 tackles (2 TFLs), and redshirt freshmen Deshon Floyd (Frankfort HS; Frankfort, KY) and Aldo Gapin (Western HS; Louisville, KY) will compete with a number of talented newcomers to fill he roster during fall camp. Special Teams

The improved coverage units in 2010 benefited from the punting efforts of junior Chris Spalding (Florence, KY) and kickoff specialist Junior Martez James. Incoming freshmen Cade Berryman (Estill HS; Estill, KY) and Duncan Pope (DuPont Manual HS; Louisville, KY) will seek to make a strong statement in the kicking game during camp. A number of Thorobreds are lining up for the opportunity to replace the departed Jamaree Gordon, a perennial All SIAC return specialist.
