While his accomplishments in that time have been too numerous to count, down as President and CEO. Built 1924-25; [Whitney] Warren & [Charles D.] Wetmore, architects; Thompson-Starrett Co., builders. Landmark Site: Borough of Manhattan Tax Map Block 1010, Lot 25. October 16, 2001 , the Landmarks Preservation Commission held a public hearing on the proposed designation as a Landmark of Steinway Hall and the proposed designation of the related Landmark Site (Item No. 3). The hearing had been duly advertised in accordance with the provisions oflaw. Eight people spoke in favor of designation, including representatives of the property's owners, Community Board 5, Municipal Art Society, American Institute of Architects' Historic Buildings Committee, and Historic Districts Council. In addition, the Commission received two letters in support of designation, including one from the New York Landmarks Conservancy. Summary The sixteen-story Steinway Hall was constructed in 1924-25 to the design of architects Warren & Wetmore for Steinway & Sons, a piano manufacturing firm that has been a dominant force in its industry since the 1860s. Founded in 1853 in New York by Heinrich E. Steinweg, Sr., the firm grew to worldwide renown and prestige through technical innovations, efficient production, business acumen, and shrewd promotion using artists' endorsements. From 1864 to 1925, Steinway's offices/showroom, and famous Steinway Hall (1866), were located near Union Square. After Carnegie Hall opened in 1891, West 57t1i Street gradually became one of the nation's leading cultural and classical music centers and the piano companies relocated uptown. It was not until 1923, however, that Steinway acquired a 57th Street site. -

There is a certain cachet that comes with living in the best unit of the building, Milton says. “The term ‘penthouse’ carries with it an aura of luxury, seclusion, and exclusivity.” Why would you want to buy a penthouse? Penthouses often come with private outdoor spaces—sometimes the only outdoor spaces offered in the entire building. “The high-end condo market usually reserves the roof deck for the penthouse unit,” Adler says. Other pros include great views, the fact that they tend to be quieter (since they’re farther away from street noise), and that penthouses tend to be more unique than other units in a building. The total population dropped by over 11% in a decade. Pollution, corrupt government and a crumbling infrastructure did not help. Crime rates have plummeted since then and the gentrification of once-derelict neighborhoods is impressive. New parks and multiple quality-of-life improvements have made New York a very different city today and urbanization has attracted hundreds of thousands of people to city living. New York is a city very reliant on the wealthy, with some of the highest taxes anywhere in the USA. While I hear of very few people leaving New York because of high taxes (many leaving head to California, a state not known for low taxes) I am hearing the rumblings of the fear of a political shift towards the extreme left. Regardless of your political beliefs, we should all be aware that at some point should wealthy New Yorkers leave the city and state due to higher taxation, all those left behind will be left with an even greater burden. The fewer people there are to pay high taxes, the more taxes those who remain will be left to pay.
