Thank you and enjoy! Jonas, Yahoo! Philippines Answers Community Manager Philippines What would be your New Year’s resolution and how do you plan to attain it? Donna Posted in Arts & Humanities > Philosophy Best Answer Well, this is my last year’s one, but it is probably the first one that has really ever worked. I love music, and I love to sing. At the end of last year, I was absolutely petrified to sing in front of anyone. Ever. This year, I made a resolution to myself that I would forget that fear of mine. And it worked. I have sung many things for people since, slowly building up confidence, and I have actually gotten compliments, which REALLY surprised me. Terra S Ways I went about attaining it: 1. I got voice lessons. That was a huge step, having one person that I would have to get used to singing in front of. 2. I sang in front of my friends, and they encouraged me. 3. I put myself out there, even when my mouth was dry and I was shaking. 4. I thought, every time when I wanted to give up, how I would feel I wasted something if I didn’t succeed. A quote from my favorite singer really helped: “You’re not doing anybody any favors if you withhold your talents from the world.” Bottom line, if you want it badly enough, it will happen. Your own ambition is the only thing that can drive you to success. Do “haranas” still exist and is it still an effective way to convince ladies to say “yes, I love you too”? What would you feel as a lady if someone offers to serenade you? Datu Dagohoy Posted in Travel > Asia Pacific > Philippines Best Answer I’ve been in Manila for 8 years and I have never seen any “harana” activity here. In the provinces, it still exists though. As to its effectiveness, most ladies of course feel flattered and honored when they are being ser- enaded. I remember when I was a child, whenever I had cousins from abroad or from Manila as house guests, they never fail to feel flattered kahlan nynaeve® when a “harana” was done in their honor. They also got “kilig” when- ever it’s a cutie who was serenading them. But if it’s someone they didn’t like, they did their best to hide during the “harana” process and This answer received: it would take some cajoling before they entertained the guys in the 1 THUMBS-UP living room. It’s never a guarantee though that the girl will return your feelings and say “I love you too.” If the girl really likes you, then with or without “harana,” she will be nice and accommodating to you. But if she doesn’t, then nothing can make her love you back. Love isn’t forced, see. Is it ok to use smileys and text lingo like “tnx” in a thank you letter after an interview? In this generation of mobile and Internet-savvy Pinoys, using emoticons and text message lingo has become a norm. But is it okay to take this all the way to the workplace? Do you think this will make Y! Philippines or break your chances of getting a job? Editor Posted in Society & Culture > Etiquette This question received: 2 STARS Best Answer Despite the evolution of text speak and it’s adaptation to our daily conversations, I’d say it’s much better to stick with what’s the traditional and formal format of writing. Many of those who’ll be doing the hiring may come from the old school of thought, and may be sticklers for correct grammar and usage. Personally, when I come across anything that’s written in text speak Kat (be it a blog or a letter sent by a friend), I usually pass it over. It’s actually a pain to read. Plus, getting used to this kind of writing may even deteriorate your skills, and in the long run, that won’t be good This answer received: for you. Bottom line, when it comes to writing, stick with what was 2 THUMBS-UP taught to you in school and what is generally accepted. Leave the text speak to your cellphones. Source: Personal Opinion What can we do for vacation in Palawan, Philippines? Any suggested itinerary? Josh L Posted in Travel > Asia Pacific > Philippines This question received: 1 STAR Best Answer What can you not do in Palawan?! It is gorgeous. A nature sanctuary that is breath-taking. Go diving, snorkeling, swimming, cave exploring, sun worshipping – whatever water sport you’re into, you can so indulge in it when in Palawan! Go on bangka safaris and see the island the way it’s meant to be seen – on water! (I’ve never seen water so blue!) Sophie79 You have to see the Coron Reefs! Beautiful lakes – seven, I think – and majestic limestone cliffs! El Nido Marine Reserve, it has everything from rainforests to mangroves to powdery white sand beaches. Puerto Princesa Subterranean River, it’s a heritage site! An 8-kilometer long underground river that you can navigate through – with the help of skillful boatman, of course! Ursula Island Bird Sanctuary, you can get there about two-hours before sunset and see all ‘em feathery folks stop by to rest. And if you’re into diving, then check out Tubbataha Reef. One of the best diving spots around. Source: http://www.palawantourism.com/ and http://www.palawaninfo.com/ Is exercise really an answer to being and staying slim? I am 15 pounds overweight and would love to go back to a slimmer figure. I am however busy with work so how can I achieve my goal? mayan Posted in Health > Diet & Fitness This question received: 1 STAR Best Answer As you say, it is “an” answer, meaning there is more than one way to stay trim. First, exercise. When you drive anywhere, park as far away as you can in the parking lot. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. There are a million little things like that that you can do. Think of your daily life and try to turn as many little things you can into an exercise. walyank Then, food. Stop drinking sodas and other drinks full of sugar. If, like me you don’t particularly like water, try to find an orange or lime seltzer water. Stay away from junk and fast food. Bring a healthy lunch to work. Don’t snack in between meals. And don’t drink too much. Now if you want to lose those 15 pounds really quickly, here’s my diet: 1 grapefruit per meal. No other food. I lost forty pounds in 3 weeks. At first I was a bit hungry but within a few days I wasn’t even thinking about it anymore. Do we, Filipinos, have the culture essential for development? Assumption 1: Some people say that only about 10% of the families in the Philippines own the almost 90% of the nation’s wealth. Assumption 2: People with the right attitude, values and work habits are more likely to get rich in the long run. junior economist Assumption 3: The rich 10% of Filipino families have the right attitude, values & work habits, that’s why they are still going to be rich in the long run.
