  • The Wabasha Doctors' Murder Trial John W. Murdoch
The Wabasha Doctors’ Murder Trial By John W. Murdoch —Ṃ— Foreword By Douglas A. Hedin Editor, MLHP In the early 1950s, a decade after he retired from practicing law in Wabasha, John Murdoch wrote articles about two unusual cases in which he acted as co-counsel for the defense with John F. McGovern, “a brilliant Irish attorney and probably the best trial lawyer who has ever practiced in Wabasha.” The first, about a suit brought against the Village of Reads by financier Russell Sage, was published in The Lake City Graphic in February 1952. Murdoch explains the novel legal issues in the case in language most readers could understand. He delights in describing the tactics of the lawyers for both parties to achieve victory (including having a local legislator run a specially tailored bill through the legislature to thwart Sage). The second was published in The Wabasha County Herald on February 17, 1954, under the headline “Doctors’ Early Day Rivalry Resulted in Murder Trial.” Because there were no complex legal issues to unravel (the indictments of Doctors Lincoln and Bond are covered in one short paragraph and their trial in another), Murdoch devotes much of his article to describing the family background, education, work habits, ambitions, and idiosyncrasies of Doctors Lincoln and Milligan — in other words, what drove him to act as he did. Murdoch’s sharp portraits of the actors in this melodrama and his account of the doctors’ rivalry and jealousies that led to violence and the courtroom, suggest why he was such a formidable trail lawyer. He possessed superior narrative skills, and in a trial told his client’s story in a way that won the jury over.

  • The New Ministers Manual
The New Ministers Manual Paul W. Powell Unless otherwise identified, scripture quotations are from the Holy Bible, King James Version. Scripture identified from the New American Standard Bible, Copyright the Lockman Foundation 1960, 1962, 1968, 1971, 1972, 1973,1975,1977. Copyright 1994 Paul W. Powell All Rights Reserved ii Dedicated to The Students of Truett Seminary and all other young people on whom the mantle of ministry will fall iii iv PREFACE Thomas Jefferson once described the presidency as “a splendid misery.” I think that is an apt description of the ministry. I know of no calling that is more rewarding, and at the same time, more demanding than being a minister. The modern minister faces a multitude of tasks that are both exciting and exacting. He must conduct funerals and weddings, often on the same day. He must be a scholar, a public speaker, an educator, a financier, a CEO, a personnel manager, a shepherd and a personal counselor. While still a student at Baylor University I became pastor of an open country church. I soon found myself confronted with many things I had seen and even been a part of in my home church, but to which I paid little attention until I was called on to do them myself. In the next 34 years I pastored churches of all sizes, my last church having more than 7,000 members. As I became pastor of larger churches I would ask young ministers to assist me in funerals, weddings, baptisms, so they could learn firsthand what to do. What I have recorded in this book are some of the things I tried to teach them.

  • The Miseducation of Hip-Hop Dance: Authenticity, and the Commodification of Cultural Identities
The Miseducation of Hip-Hop dance: Authenticity, and the commodification of cultural identities. E. Moncell Durden., Assistant Professor of Practice University of Southern California Glorya Kaufman School of Dance Introduction Hip-hop dance has become one of the most popular forms of dance expression in the world. The explosion of hip-hop movement and culture in the 1980s provided unprecedented opportunities to inner-city youth to gain a different access to the “American” dream; some companies saw the value in using this new art form to market their products for commercial and consumer growth. This explosion also aided in an early downfall of hip-hop’s first dance form, breaking. The form would rise again a decade later with a vengeance, bringing older breakers out of retirement and pushing new generations to develop the technical acuity to extraordinary levels of artistic corporeal genius. We will begin with hip-hop’s arduous beginnings. Born and raised on the sidewalks and playgrounds of New York’s asphalt jungle, this youthful energy that became known as hip-hop emerged from aspects of cultural expressions that survived political abandonment, economic struggles, environmental turmoil and gang activity. These living conditions can be attributed to high unemployment, exceptionally organized drug distribution, corrupt police departments, a failed fire department response system, and Robert Moses’ building of the Cross-Bronx Expressway, which caused middle and upper-class residents to migrate North. The South Bronx lost 600,000 jobs and displaced more than 5,000 families. Between 1973 and 1977, and more than 30,000 fires were set in the South Bronx, which gave rise to the phrase “The Bronx is Burning.” This marginalized the black and Latino communities and left the youth feeling unrepresented, and hip-hop gave restless inner-city kids a voice.

  • The Office” Sample Script
“THE OFFICE” SAMPLE SCRIPT “The Masseuse” by John Chang [email protected] FADE IN: INT. OFFICE – MORNING MICHAEL enters and stops by PAM’S desk. MICHAEL Morning, Pam. Did you catch the ‘L Word’ last night? PAM No. I missed it. MICHAEL It was a great episode. Tim found out that Jenny was cheating on him with Marina, and Dana and Lara broke up. But the whole thing was totally unbelievable. PAM Why? MICHAEL Because. There’s no way that lesbians are that hot in real life. I know that we all have our fantasies about a pair of hot lesbian chicks making out with each other, but that’s just not how it is in the real world. PAM Um, o-kay. MICHAEL I mean, seriously, Pam. There’s no way in a million years that a smoking hot lesbian babe would come up to you and ask you out on a date. It just wouldn’t happen. I mean, I’m sure you must be very attractive to plenty of lesbians out there, but let’s face facts: they don’t look like Jennifer Beals, they look like Rosie O’Donnell. 2 MICHAEL (cont’d) That’s why the ‘L Word’ is just a TV show, and this is real life. And Pam, for what it’s worth, if you were a lesbian, you’d be one of the hotter ones. PAM Um, thanks. As Michael heads for his office, Pam turns to the camera. Her expression asks, “Did he just say that?” END TEASER INT. OFFICE - DAY It’s business as usual, when the entrance of an extremely attractive young woman (MARCI) interrupts the office’s normal placid calm.

Her childhood nickname was “Doodles.” One of the many activities Dru did as a volunteer was taking underprivileged children bowling. She raised money for organizations like the American Diabetes Association. She helped kindergartners and first graders learn to read. While in college, Dru participated in events that raised awareness for violence against women and children. Dru was close to her older brother; the siblings had friends in common.
