TRIP TO THE OKLAHOMA CITY MUSEUM OF ART & LUNCH IN THE MUSEUM CAFÉ THURSDAY, JANUARY 16TH LEAVE @ 11:00 AM RETURN BY 3:00 PM

Let’s get on the bus and visit the museum to see their current exhibition, “Renewing the American Spirit: The Art of the Great Depression”. The exhibit will explore the physical and social landscape of the United States during the Great Depression through paintings, prints, photographs, and other media. The original exhibition includes a selection of works from the Museum’s excellent collection of WPA art, a recently acquired monumental mural by Gardner Hale, which has not been exhibited publicly since the First President’s bicentennial exhibition in 1932, and several loans from regional institutions.

The exhibition examines the diverse responses of artists to the social upheaval and economic distress that characterized American life in the 1930s. Together, the aesthetically and politically varied works produced in the 1930s paint a revealing portrait of the nation’s evolving psyche as it sought to move ahead through one of the country’s most challenging periods.

Your CAREGIVER SUPPORT GROUP

THURSDAY, JANUARY 16TH 1:00 - 2:00 PM JOE WHITE LIVING ROOM

Now is the time for you to join your friends and neighbors who are sharing a journey which is similar to yours yet can be very different. The fact is that…..

YOU ARE NOT ALONE ON THIS JOURNEY!

We come together as a group to share stories and concerns. We laugh and we cry. Being just a listener is acceptable. Many helpful hints can help ease your anxiety of caregiving. Developing an awareness of those around you who are in similar circumstances can be to your advantage as you travel this road together.

Meetings are informal. Phones may be necessarily allowed. The meeting lasts for one hour. There is room in the Library for care-receivers to wait for you.

YOUR FACILITATORS, Natalia & Nancie

INQUIRING MINDS MONDAY, JANUARY 20TH 7:14PM WELLNESS CENTER PROHIBITION A Ken Burns Film A NATION OF SCOFFLAWS Walter Lambert, Moderator With the passing of the 18th amendment to the U.S. Constitution, the federal government now passes the enforcement legislation, the Volstead Act, that was far more pervasive and inconsistent than many people expected. Exceptions and loopholes in the law make a mockery of it. A family can legally make wine at home but not beer, a friendly doctor’s prescription is all that’s needed for whiskey, and anyone claiming to be a rabbi can buy and sell “sacramental” wine.

Don Lockwood (Kelly) is a popular silent film star with humble roots as a singer, dancer and stuntman. Don barely tolerates his vain, shallow leading lady, Lina Lamont (Hagen), though their studio, Monumental Pictures, links them romantically to increase their popularity. Lina herself is convinced they are in love, despite Don's protestations otherwise. At the première of his newest film, The Royal Rascal, Don tells the gathered crowd an exaggerated version of his life story, including his motto: "Dignity, always dignity." His words are humorously contradicted by flashbacks alongside his best friend Cosmo Brown (O'Connor).
