DESCRIPTION The race starts in front of the Laguna with a neutralized section trough Cairns to the look- out on Lake Morris Road, some 12 kilometers out of town. After the official start, the first 10 km will go up on asphalt to Copperlode dam. Once we passed the dam, the real climbing be- gins. First a concrete and later a dirt road with very steep sections, both up and down, leads the riders through the beautiful rainforest. After feedstation one, the roads open up and you enter a typical Australian surrounding with gravel roads and eucalyptus trees. We go through parts of Davis Creek Mountainbike Park as well. The finish and camping area is at the borders of Lake Tinaroo. DESCRIPTION Today we start early to avoid weekend traffic on the Dan- bulla Road along Lake Tinaroo that brings us to the start of Mount Edith Road after 13 flat kilometers. This scenic 4WD track winds its way through a section of the Lamb Range and offers an amazing transition of vegetation from tall open forest to wet sclerophyll forest and rainfo- rest. You’ll come across some massive gum trees. After some 25 km we exit the forest and arrive on the big open gravel roads we had at the end of yesterday’s stage. After crossing the Mareeba-Atherton highway via and small tunnel, we go in almost a straight line to the South past Atherthon and Herberton to Tepon Equestrian Park. The course contains some long and often steep climbs but no special technical difficulties. We’ll stay at the same camping spot for two night, so no packing and moving tomorrow.

CAMPING & FACILITIES Camping at Equestrian Parc. Toilets, showers available.

DESCRIPTION This stage might well be the hardest climbing stage ever in the Crocodile Trophy. We start at Tepon Equestrian Park and head north along the powerlines. This used to be a very rough section in the past, but recently impro- ved a lot. It still goes up and down very steep though.

Once past Watsonville, we turn East in the direction of Atherton. Halfway the stage we go through the very nice Atherthon Bike Park and ride the man build trails for about 20 km, including the infamous Stairway to Heaven climb.

A rough 4WD track takes the riders back to the highway crossing and into the Herberton Range National Park. Again some very steep and often rough trails await. The final 15 kilometers back to Tepon are easier but after more than 100 km not to be underestimated.

This stage could definitely be decisive for the overall win, but still a lot can happen in the next five days!

STAGE 4 TUE 16.10.2018 Tepon – Irvinebank - Time Trial

DESCRIPTION For those going for a good result, day 3 and 4 are crucial. After the brutally hard stage from yesterday, an indivi- dual time trial of no less than 64 kilometers towards the old mining village Irvinebank awaits. We start at 9 a.m. in reverse order of the general classification with 1 minutes intervals.

The course mainly goes on wide gravel roads and con- tains some long climbs. The final 10 kilometers to the finish are downhill. If it were a normal stage, it wouldn’t have been that hard, but a time trial is something totally different of course…

Irvinebank is so remote there is no mobile phone co- verage, but the great atmosphere will make you forget about e-mails and social media in no time!

DESCRIPTION Today we leave Irvinebank via some old mining trails near Stannery Hill. This section is very rough and it often takes the cars more time to go through than the mountainbi- kers. Once past the mango farms in Mutchilba the course gets a lot easier with wide, flat roads that seem to go on forever.

The finish is in the garden of Skybury Coffee Plantation, were we will stay for two nights. Here you’ll have the op- portunity to drink one of the best coffees in Australia or taste some of their delicious pastries.

All in all this is a nice and not so hard stage.

DESCRIPTION

Today is the longest stage in distance but most likely not in time since it mostly goes on good roling roads with little height difference.

We start in reverse direction of yesterday’s stage until we reach Northcote Station. Compared to the 2017 edition, we ride the Mount Mulligan loop in opposite direction meaning the roughest part past the historic gold mine Tyrconnel / Kingsbu- rough will be at the end of the loop. 19 STAGE 7 FRI 19.10.2018 Skybury - Wetherby Station

DESCRIPTION Today’s stage to the cattle station Wetherby is again a very fast one. If the wind is blowing in the right direc- tion, an average speed of 30 km/h for the fastest riders is no exception. The first part goes along some water channels and involves a lot of twisting and turning. Halfway the stage we enter the Kuranda National Park and ride along the famous Black Mountain Road through the rainforest. The finish is at an original outback cattle station. The last evening together will be celebrated with a big campfire.

FINISH WETHERBY STATION Your authentic outback cattle station experience in Tropical Australia. Since it was established around 1878, Wetherby Sta- tion has been renowned for good hospitality in the bushman‘s unique Australian style. Today, Wetherby continues this tradition of hospitality and a good time. The restored homestead, gardens and facilities are of- fered as an authentic outback North Queensland venue for private functions and groups. DESCRIPTION Today the race will finish at the beach in Port Douglas, but before we get there, you’ll cross some beautiful single trails through the rainforest. Twin Bridge Road is only accessible by bike and offers some great tech- nical sections before starting the final decent towards the Great Barrier Rife on the infamous Bump Track. The official finish will be outside of Port Douglas from where we have a neutralized section to finish all together on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, Four Mile Beach. This is a moment to cherish and remember for the rest of your life! The start at Wetherby Station will be given in different waves to make sure everybody arrives at the beach more or less at the same time and nobody has to wait long before the group is complete.

PORT DOUGLAS Port Douglas is just an hour’s drive north from Cairns via a spectacular coastal road that is surrounded by forest and the Coral Sea. The climate is seductive.
