Office of the Governor - Web Mail Correspondence OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR - WEB MAIL CORRESPONDENCE Correspondence ID: 201908050163 E Date Submitted: 8/5/2019 8:30:33AM Message: The sitting president is filled with hate speech he routinely and continuously spills to his thirsty and adoring followers. He incites racism and intolerance and now in the wake of 20 people being slaughtered in my state, my home, my great Texas, where are my representatives? Where are you? Are you fighting for your constituents? Are you fighting against odds and the NRA to insure this never happens again in our Texas? The second time in how many months have you let this happen? You should be ashamed. To be owned by this president, by the NRAs dirty blood money. Every time you send a reply email to me and to those who write to you BEGGING for gun reform with a soft and condescending refusal you fill your hands with the blood of young and old brown black and white. We are Texans we are Americans and we are dying. In Walmarts and in churches in movie theaters at concerts in restaurants in schools were dying and our president laughs with white supremacists at his rallies and for all the world to see on his Twitter. What will you do? Will you stand up and fight for us for our state for our country for our lives? Or will you be voted out and left to be a stain in the history books; lessons taught in Texas Government classes about the cowardly complacent Lt. governor or congressman or senator or governor. Will you continue to be an embarrassment letting your people die in crowded places or will you support common sense gun laws? I hope you love this state and its beautiful diverse population as much as I do. I hope your position of power lets you seek an end to this hateful intolerance and injustice any way you can. I hope together we can end senseless gun violence. NAR per D. Keith. Expressed Opinion. 8/21/19 OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR - WEB MAIL CORRESPONDENCE Name: Correspondence ID: IP Address: Incoming Type: 201908050161 Address: Date Submitted: 8/5/2019 8:30:32AM Email: Phone: Message: What are you going to do? 100 Texans in ten years dead to mass shootings. Your actions are required, your prayers are worthless. What are you doing to do? NAR per D. Keith. Expressed Opinion. 8/21/19 OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR - WEB MAIL CORRESPONDENCE Name: Correspondence ID: IP Address: Incoming Type: 201908050162 Address: Date Submitted: Email: Phone: Message: Since you are completely unfit to come up with any other idea than "thoughts and prayers," here are a few from a constituent who is absolutely done with this shit. 1) The monetary cost of mass shootings needs to be absorbed by the tax payers. This means medical coverage of those hurt, and therapy for everyone affected. It is absurd that you can be shot in a terrorist event and then become bankrupt from the medical bills. Until we are forced to pay for what we have let society become, this will continue to be kicked down the road. 2) Background checks on all weapon purchases and actual enforcement of the laws currently being ignored for fear of morons' "right to bear arms." It is too damn easy for insane people to get guns, and the guns that are available should be made for one purpose and that is hunting. Enforce regulation, and close down every damn pawn shop and store who does otherwise. 3) Regulate ammunition sales like it is heroin. You can own all the guns you want, but the bullets to kill people need to be locked away. If a person is forced to make their own bullets to pull this off, they will much more likely abandon the task or come to the realization that they are in fact a monster. 4) Stop with the thoughts and prayers. Even Jesus followed up with action. Do your damn job and keep your damn constituents safe. If you are open to coming up with actual action, and actual legislation to combat these issues I welcome the discussion. If all you have to offer is thoughts and prayers be ready to find a new job come elections because you are not doing your damn job. Sincerely, a tired pissed-off constituent. NAR per D. Keith. I think it is fair to say as an elected official you have a responsibility to help prevent events like we experienced yesterday, from happening again anywhere. I am asking you to work to help ban assault weapons in the United States. I also ask that you loudly and publicly condemn racism and hatred. Thank you, Moeen Abedin NAR per D. Keith. When the founding fathers wrote the second amendment they had no idea such horrible weapons would be invented. How many more innocent people must die? How can any of us claim to be Christian and support such weapons of mass destruction. It totally contradicts Jesus teaching of love and peace. We cannot use mental illness as an excuse, there is no way to predict who will become mentally ill so please do the right thing and ban assault weapons and AK47 and other such mass weapons of war. Also we need to stop allowing small dingy private stores from selling guns. Here in Houston such stores are robbed all the time and the guns get into the hands of criminals. Gun sales should be allowed only by licensed super secure facilities that will prevent break-ins and thieves. No law abiding citizen of the United States needs to fear background checks. We cannot have any more mass shootings. Please do not cave in to the NRA. This does not hurt the second amendment. If you are a normal mentally healthy citizen why should you fear background checks. No other country in the world deals with this epidemic of gun violence as we do in the USA. If you are pro-life how can you be against checks needed to reduce gun violence. This is also a matter of saving life. I generally vote Republican but I want Gun control. We need to ban Assault weapon and other weapons of war and we need more background checks and we need more controls on the sale of guns and weapons. Please have the courage to do the right thing and ban assault weapons and weapons of war. No citizen needs it. NAR per D. Keith. Expressed Opinion. 8/21/19 OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR - WEB MAIL CORRESPONDENCE Name: Correspondence ID: IP Address: Incoming Type: 201908050081 E Address: Date Submitted: 8/5/2019 8:24:38AM Email: Phone: Message: There has been yet another mass shooting. This time in Texas by a white supremacist who drinks the MAGA koolaid and decided to shoot up a border town. Do NOT give us your "thoughts and prayers". Do NOT tell us that "this isn't the time for a discussion on gun control." Do NOT fail us AGAIN. Do your damn jobs! Speak up against Trump's racist, hate filled rhetoric that is radicalizing white males. Lead the charge to pass sensible gun reform legislation. This blood is on your hands as much as the shooters. These deaths are a result of your inaction. You are the pro life party? Then prove it. Otherwise, may God have mercy on you, because you are doing nothing to live up to your oaths or the ideals of this country. NAR per D. Keith. You have blood in your hands today in El Paso. All the NRA crazies are now coming out of hiding due to idiot Trump and your support for chaos in Texas. Sensible gun control is the ONLY way to go. 2 guns per person max, one for self defense and one for sport, no automatics or semis or silencer. Gun registration and a full mandatory check on ALL gun purchases including gun shows no private gun sales. Try this your moron. You idiot cripple and that lunatic Trump. NAR per D. Keith. Expressed Opinion. 8/21/19 OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR - WEB MAIL CORRESPONDENCE Name: Correspondence ID: E Date Submitted: 8/5/2019 8:52:37AM Email: Message: Your comments about focusing on mental health in the wake of the El Paso shooting is ill-informed. Such shooters are sociopaths; they have personality disorders. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders informs us that such conditions are basically NOT treatable, especially because such persons are manipulative and have no consciences. Sounds like Trump, right? Also you Republicans have cut mental health spending. What hypocrites. Gun control is the way to go but you Republicans sold your souls to the NRA and gun manufacturers. You and Trump have the blood of these gun victims on your heads. Trump incited this violence.

Governor of Texas was established with statehood and the Constitution of 1845. Qualifications for Office The Council of State Governments (CSG) publishes the Book of the States (BOS) 2015. In chapter 4, Table 4.13 lists the Qualifications and Terms of Office for lieutenant governors: The Book of the States 2015 (CSG) at www.csg.org. • The National Rifle Association and the White Male Identity
The National Rifle Association and the White Male Identity Examining the intersection of identity with regard to race, gender, and citizenship status within the parameters of the NRA and its espoused rhetoric 12/21/2012 Columbia University; Professor J.Sorett Eliana Rae Eitches Eitches 1 On Friday, July 20, 2012, James Holmes entered a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado armed with a 100-round drum magazine, a Smith & Wesson M&P15 assault rifle (the “civilian version of the Military’s M-16) capable of firing 60 bullets per minute, a Remington shotgun, and a .40 caliber handgun .i On that day, Holmes used those weapons to shoot 71 people, twelve of whom died. Less than six months later, on December 14, 2012, 20-year old Adam Lanza, immediately after shooting and killing his mother in their home, proceeded to Sandy Hook Elementary School where he shot and killed 26 people - 20 children and 6 adults - before killing himself. After the bodies were carried away, the final body count stood at 28, making it the second most deadly school shooting in United States history.ii In response to Aurora, many cried for stricter gun control laws while others determined to arm themselves: Colorado saw a 41% increase in background checks for hopeful gun owners in the direct aftermath of the incident, a response “not unusual” after a mass shooting.iii Media attention was lavished on these two aforementioned mass murders because their spectacular violence and seemingly-random nature incites the curiosity of the nation; synchronously, the attention these events receive is disproportionate compared to the negligible attention received by the 276 people shot daily in the United States, 84 of whom will die as a result of their injuries.iv Yet, it is these mass violence spectacles that demonstrate why the debate surrounding gun control and gun protection is so fierce: incidences of mass violence either incite fear, causing one to support protection measures via gun ownership or via stricter gun legislation.

For several months, Texas voters and election officials have prepared to cast and receive ballots based on rules laid out in the Texas Election Code and Governor Abbott’s July 27 Proclamation regarding early and absentee voting. Now, at the eleventh hour, Governor Abbott issued a new Proclamation that, if allowed to stand, dramatically changes the applicable rules, 1 “Plaintiffs” include the supporters, constituents, and/or members of ADL and Common Cause Texas. 2 Notice of this Petition and Application was provided to the Texas Attorney General in advance of filing pursuant to Local Rule 10.4. 1 namely where ballots-by-mail can be dropped off. This bait-and-switch exceeds the Governor’s authority and violates the Texas Constitution – in addition to being inconsistent with principles of efficient election administration and fundamental fairness to all Texas voters. 2. Defendant Governor Greg Abbott’s October 1, 2020 Proclamation (“the Proclamation”) impermissibly intrudes on local election officials’ authority to manage elections and imposes an unconstitutional burden on voters’ right to vote.

Whether or not new gun legislation should be implemented in the wake of repeated mass shootings and the public outrage that follows them is constantly debated, but little progress has been made in the way of lawmaking. This thesis explores the way that differing sides of the gun debate – those for gun control and those against – use different definitions and ways to present keywords that are frequently used in the gun debate. The study is an analysis of four speeches that were given by four different speakers in the wake of a school shooting in Parkland, Florida in 2018. The four selected speeches have been given by Emma Gonzalez and David Hogg, both students at the school, NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre and Republican Senator Marco Rubio. The hypothesis is that people on opposing sides of the debate will speak about and use the keywords in the text differently. Theoretical approaches used in the analysis include critical discourse analysis and strategic maneuvering.

At the start of the COVID-19 crisis, Governor Gregg Abbott issued a disaster declaration triggering his authority under the Texas Disaster Act, which places on him a duty to meet “the dangers to the state and people presented by disasters,” and authorizes him to issue certain executive orders to meet that duty. Tex. Gov’t Code § 418.011. Early on in the crisis, Governor Abbott and County Judges and Mayors across the state issued emergency orders to contain the spread of the virus, including limiting building occupancy, mandating masks, and mandating testing at certain facilities. In the months following the initial stages of the pandemic, as the country became increasingly polarized about governmental mandates during the pandemic, the Governor changed course. He began misusing his Disaster Act authority to issue executive orders designed not to prevent the spread of COVID-19, but instead to tie local officials’ hands. He prohibited local officials from enacting protective measures.
