From the Vatican, June 9, 2020 Most Reverend Eminence / Excellency DICASTERIUM PRO COMMUNICATIONE 0001930/2020 (da citare nella risposta) From the Vatican, June 9, 2020 Most Reverend Eminence / Excellency / Your Beatitude, In this time of tribulation, marked by the consequences of the Coronavirus, we all have been experiencing the importance of communicating hope, so that isolation does not become solitude. Pope Francis, in the extraordinary prayer of the Statio Orbis of March 27, invited us to find “the courage to create spaces where everyone can recognize that they are called, and to allow new forms of hospitality, fraternity, solidarity”. Together with the ordinary work, directed to the Holy Father to accompany the People of God and to be at his side through all the means at our disposal, our Dicastery has introduced some initiatives aimed at expressing our closeness and our attention so that this crisis, which separates us geographically, does not prevent us from uniting with one another. 1. Through the Vatican Publishing House-LEV, this Dicastery has published the book “Strong in Tribulation” which is a collection of homilies of the Pope during the quarantine, together with some prayers of the Christian tradition, which helps us to glimpse the closeness and presence of God, during this period of pain, suffering, loneliness and isolation. I am glad to send you a digital copy, downloadable at the following link https://e.va/fortinellatribolazione . The English edition will be available as print-on-demand starting from June 25 in online stores, primarily on Amazon. It will also be available at LEV, writing to [email protected] 2. Another book published by the Vatican Publishing House is “Life After the Pandemic”, a collection of interventions by Pope Francis, with a preface by Card. Michael Czerny, to reflect on the vision of the world that is emerging after the pandemic and to which we are called to accompany. Also in this case, I am happy to send you a digital copy, downloadable at the following link https://e.va/vitadopopandemia . Ufficio/Office: Via della Conciliazione, 5 Tel. +39 06 698 91800 – Fax +39 06 698 83463 – e-mail: [email protected] Indirizzo Postale/Postal Address: 00120 Città del Vaticano The English edition will be available as print-on-demand starting from June 20 in online stores, primarily on Amazon. It will also be available at LEV, writing to [email protected] * The English edition will be also printed and sold in the bookstores of St. Paul’s, India and that of St. Paul’s Kenya. 3. The App of L'Osservatore Romano for smartphones and tablets, is added to the online edition of the newspaper (https://www.osservatoreromano.va/en.html) At the moment, it is only available in Italian (and in the near future it will be available in the other languages of L’Osservatore Romano). The App of L’Osservatore Romano (as well as those of Vatican.va, Vatican News and Vatican Radio) is available on Android and iOS. For any information or suggestions, kindly do contact us at the e-mail address [email protected]. I thank you for your kind attention and request you to spread this information where you will find it most useful. I conclude sending you my most cordial greetings and best prayerful wishes. ACMRO 6th National Conference 6-7 August 2019 Missionary Clergy and Religious in Australia: Challenges and Opportunities CONTEMPORARY MIGRATION: THE OPPORTUNITIES BEYOND THE CHALLENGES Fr. Fabio Baggio Migrants & Refugees Section - DPIHD With the Apostolic Letter Humanam progressionem on August 17, 2016, Pope Francis (2017a) established the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development. It merged the Pontifical Councils ‘for Justice and Peace,’ ‘Cor Unum,’ ‘for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People’ and ‘for Health Care Workers.’ This new organization brings together the tools for promoting integral human development. However, the serious human emergency of increasingly frequent and consistent migrations caused by conflicts and natural catastrophes, has made it necessary to pay greater, specific and urgent attention to migration questions. For this reason, a special Migrants and Refugees Section has been set up within the Dicastery, which is led for the time being by the Pontiff himself. The magnitude, complexity and urgency of the issues related to migrants, refugees and asylum seekers in the world, along with the significance and importance of the vocation of the Church to accompany them, are the real ‘first premise’ of the Migrants and Refugees Section, as well as of the guidance and supervision of the Holy Father. The Section is called upon to give convincing testimony and to undertake effective action for the good of migrants and refugees. The Migrants and Refugees Section makes a fundamental aspect of the mission of the Church concretely clear: accompanying the people of God in all their joys and hopes, sorrows and anxieties, especially of the poor and all those who suffer (Second Vatican Council, 1965).

Back issues € 2,00 L’O S S E RVATOR E ROMANO WEEKLY EDITION IN ENGLISH Unicuique suum Non praevalebunt Fifty-third year, number 19 (2.646) Vatican City Friday, 8 May 2020 Higher Committee of Human Fraternity calls to join together on 14 May A day of prayer, fasting and works of charity The Holy Father has accepted the proposal of the Higher Commit- tee of Human Fraternity to call for a day of prayer, of fasting and works of charity on Thursday, 14 May, to be observed by all men and women “believers in God, the All-Creator”. The proposal is addressed to all religious leaders and to people around the world to implore God to help humanity overcome the coronavirus (Covid- 19) pandemic. The appeal released on Sat- urday, 2 May, reads: “Our world is facing a great danger that threatens the lives of millions of people around the world due to the growing spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. While we reaffirm the role of medicine and scientific research in fighting this pandemic, we should not forget to seek refuge in God, the All-Creator, as we face such severe crisis. Therefore, we call on all peoples around the world to do good deeds, observe fast, pray, and make devout sup- plications to God Almighty to end this pandemic. Each one from wherever they are and ac- cording to the teachings of their religion, faith, or sect, should im- plore God to lift this pandemic off us and the entire world, to rescue us all from this adversity, to inspire scientists to find a cure that can turn back this disease, and to save the whole world from the health, economic, and human repercussions of this serious pan- demic.

  • Weekly Bulletin 12 July 2020
In the care of the Augustinians Cnr White & Wanganella Sts 2 King Street Parish Priest: Fr Dave Austin OSA 12th July 2020 [email protected] Parish Office: 9949 4455 15th Sunday Ordinary Time (yr A ) www.northharbourcatholic.org.au PASTOR’S PERSPECTIVE – ’Imagine… a Middle Class of Holiness!’ Dear Friends, Today’s Gospel of the Parable of the Sower helps us to reflect on our responsibilities as Church, as families, Parish and School Communities, and as Augustinians. God the Sower is almost wasteful in scattering the seeds wildly but then God’s love is like that. The parable could apply to the many areas of our lives where our openness to the Spirit varies – times when we are very receptive to God’s grace, times when we’re perhaps a bit shy, and times when we resist strongly. Life knocks us around – certainly our recent experience - but thankfully Jesus’ parables turn reality on its head. A seven-fold return was considered a good harvest but Jesus says otherwise, ‘Imagine… imagine the kind of seed that can produce up to a hundredfold in spite of the difficulties involved!’ Keeping our faith fresh is an engaging task at any time and we must ‘imagine’ and ’keep sowing’! Comments from parishioners ‘returning’ to our churches reflect relief and fresh energy that we can now gather again. Some of you may find spiritual support in a favourite ’app’. Pope Francis’ homilies and reflections can be found on the Vatican News App or the Click to Pray App. I find Laudate particularly helpful because it has a remarkable menu which includes the Prayer of the Church, the Daily Readings, prayers and devotions, the Order of Mass, the Catechism, 2 versions of the Bible, major Vatican documents from the Popes and Vatican II, and even the Code of Canon Law – in case I ever need it! Liturgy nourishes our faith! Even in the current ‘Ordinary Time’, for Christians the ordinary is rarely ordinary! Our Sunday journey is ‘ordered’, our ‘weekly Easter’, the most basic feast of our liturgical cycle.

  • POPE FRANCIS AS a GLOBAL ACTOR Where Politics and Theology Meet
POPE FRANCIS AS A GLOBAL ACTOR Where Politics and Theology Meet EDITED BY ALYNNA J. LYON, CHRISTINE A. GUSTAFSON, AND PAUL CHRISTOPHER MANUEL Palgrave Studies in Religion, Politics, and Policy Series editor Mark J. Rozell Schar School of Policy and Government George Mason University Arlington, VA, USA A generation ago, many social scientists regarded religion as an anachronism, whose social, economic, and political importance would inevitably wane and disap- pear in the face of the inexorable forces of modernity. Of course, nothing of the sort has occurred; indeed, the public role of religion is resurgent in US domestic politics, in other nations, and in the international arena. Today, religion is widely acknowledged to be a key variable in candidate nominations, platforms, and elections; it is recognized as a major influence on domestic and foreign policies. National religious movements as diverse as the Christian Right in the United States and the Taliban in Afghanistan are important factors in the internal politics of par- ticular nations. Moreover, such transnational religious actors as Al-Qaida, Falun Gong, and the Vatican have had important effects on the politics and policies of nations around the world. Palgrave Studies in Religion, Politics, and Policy serves a growing niche in the discipline of political science. This subfield has proliferated rapidly during the past two decades, and has generated an enormous amount of scholarly studies and journalistic coverage. Five years ago, the journal Politics and Religion was created; in addition, works relating to religion and politics have been the subject of many articles in more general academic journals.
