Move the GTHA Outcome Harvest February 2019 Introduction The Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) has over 7 million people across 30 municipalities, over 8,000 square kilometres, 4 levels of government, and 10 transit agencies. By 2041, over 10 million people will live in the GTHA. Our transportation system is not ready to meet the needs of this growing population. Move the GTHA is a collective of organizations that came together in 2012 to advance the development of a transportation system that connects our region with a network of public transit, regional rail, GO trains and buses, ride-sharing, and active transportation infrastructure. The group represented a diversity of perspectives – health, labour, business, policy, environment, and citizen advocacy – but unanimous in the understanding that investment in our region’s transportation system is urgently needed. Specifically, Move the GTHA advocated for long-term dedicated funding for an efficient, accessible, affordable and fully integrated regional transportation system, with accountable and effective regional governance mechanisms in place. This document summarizes the major activities of the collective as well as key external events from 2008 to 2018. It is intended as a resource to archive our work and events during a very busy decade of transportation advocacy.
