They say “recognition is the greatest motivator”--and that’s exactly what’s fueling the Chamber this autumn! Check out all the ways the Chamber is recognizing our 2016 mem- bers.

Social Media If you haven’t “liked” the Pine Island Area Chamber on facebook yet, you are surely miss- ing out! Whenever our Chamber members host cream socials, open houses, specials, and more, we “share” those on our page. To stay in the loop-- and since you’re on face- book already--help the Chamber reach 500 likes this year. Once you like that photo on facebook, make sure to patronize these businesses and support these organizations!

Website Our website is updated weekly with meeting updates, upcoming community events, and more! Utilize the “Community Calendar” to plan your days off or submit a community event of your own. See a complete list of who's on our 2016 roster on the “Member Direc- tory” page of our website (http://goo.gl/zTU1pX).

Display Cases Besides a list of logos online, Chamber members are highlighted in the display cases around town. A large map of Pine Island at the City Park shows the locations of our 2016 brick-and-mortar members. This is the perfect opportunity to showcase our Chamber members to out-of-towners visiting our community--foot traffic, bicyclists, and those driv- ing into and around town.

Certificates New this year, the Chamber distributed framed certificates to our 2016 Chamber mem- bers. Our members proudly display these in their businesses for the community to see! “When consumers know that a small business is a member of the Chamber of Commerce, they are 44% more likely to think favorably of it and 63% more likely to purchase goods or services from the company in the future. (“The Real Value of Joining a Local Chamber of Commerce” research study by The Schapiro Group, Inc.)

Make sure to follow the Chamber on social media and online. The Chamber meets the second Tuesday of every month. More information can be found at www.pineislandmnchamber.com. Here’s to an autumn filled with the recognition our members’ deserve!

Ole & Lena at the State Fair- Wednesday May 10th Heyde Center for the Arts-Chippewa Falls Wisconsin

Our trip will weave us through the beautiful scenery of rural Wisconsin. On our way to Chippewa Falls, we will make a stop at the quaint Eau Galle Cheese Factory Shop. Time to browse, enjoy some tasty samples and take a stretch break.

Once we arrive in Chippewa Falls, you will be delighted by the hilarious production of Ole and Lena at the State Fair . The lunch buffet is scrumptious at the historic Heyde Center.

12:00 PM Buffet Lunch *Menu to be determined 1:30 PM Show Begins 3:30 PM Show concludes

Ole & Lena at the State Fair The calendar has finally turned over to Ole’s favorite event of the year - State Fair time. Unfortunately, Lena doesn’t share Ole’s excitement. For years Lena has been in countless competitions with her arch rival Elaine Danielson, always battling, only to end up with a tie for the coveted blue ribbons. But this year Lena has a new trick up her sleeve that she’s sure will tip the balance in her favor.

Ole, on the other hand, has his own fair surprise this year. Ole heard on CCO that Sweet Martha makes a truckload of money at the fair so Ole and Sven have decided they're going to turn the Fair into a money making operation with a food stand of their own. Their goal is to come up with something they can stuff on a stick and get them on TV with Frank and Amelia. But when it comes time for the leave for the Fair, Lena is nowhere to be found. Can Ole find Lena in time to spring her surprise on arch nemesis Elaine?

On our way home, we will stop in at Kwik Trip in Durand, Wisconsin for a pit stop and snack break.

Preschool Screening

EARLY CHILDHOOD SCREENING TO BE HELD IN PINE ISLAND March 15 & 16, 2017 Enter through Community Ed Entrance, not the main doors— Pine Island Elementary Early Childhood Screening is a free check of a child’s growth and de- velopment provided by Pine Island Public Schools. Screening in early childhood supports readiness for kindergarten and promotes positive child health and development. If any areas of concern are identified, children can get the help they need before starting school. Children are required to have a screening before kindergarten entrance, unless a conscientious objection is filed. The next Early Childhood Screening is being held Wednesday, March 15 & Thursday, March 16 at the Pine Island Elementary School. This screening is for any unscreened child who: • Is between the ages of three and four. • Is over four and has not yet been screened Screening at age three is ideal, as it provides the earliest time to offer support and resources to children and families. The screening tools are adjusted for a child’s age, so waiting for a child to learn more skills before screening is not recommended and provides no benefit. It can also delay care for any areas that may be of concern. The screening includes height and weight, vision and hearing, and a developmental screening, which looks at the child’s thinking, language and motor skills. Parents will also have a health and immunization review with a nurse, followed by an exit interview. Early childhood screening includes a vision screening that helps detect potential eye problems, but is not a substitute for a comprehensive eye exam. Call the Pine Island School at 356-8785 or Community Education at 356-8876 to schedule your appointment. Appointment times range from 7:30 AM until 3:00 PM and take about an hour and a half. At- tending any preschool or ECFE classes or having well child check-ups with your doctor does not eliminate the requirement for screening. If you have questions regarding screening eligibility or any other ques- tions pertaining to ECS, please contact Kim Pokrandt, ECS Coordinator and Licensed School Nurse at 356-8785.

Bounce World Waiver PARTICIPANT AGREEMENT, RELEASE AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK

In consideration of the services of Partner Up Promotions dba Jolly Jumpz Bounce World, their agents, owners, officers, volunteers, participants, employees, and all other persons or entities acting in any capacity on their behalf (hereinafter collectively referred to a "PUP"), I hereby agree to release, indemnify and discharge PUP, on behalf of myself, my spouse, my children, my parents, my heirs, assigns, personal representative and estate as follows:

I acknowledge that my participation in inflatable devices or any other amusement device activities entails known and unanticipated risk that could result in physical or emotional injury, paralysis, death or damage to myself, to property, or to third parties. I understand that such risks simply cannot be eliminated without jeopardizing the essential qualities of the activity.

The risks include, among other things: slips and falls; colliding with others which could cause strains, sprains, broken bones and head injuries; cuts abrasions, and bruises; heat exhaustion, heat stroke and cardiac related events or illness; falling off of or being thrown from the inflatable which could result in musculo- skeletal injuries including head, neck and back injuries; equipment failure or operator error; the negligence of other participants, or other persons who may be present; my own physical condition and the physical exertions associated with this activity.

Furthermore, PUP employees have difficult jobs to perform. They seek safety, but they are not infallible. They might be unaware of a participant's fitness or abilities. They might misjudge the weather or other environmental conditions. They may give incomplete warnings or instructions, and the equipment being used might malfunction. I expressly agree and promise to accept and assume all of the risks existing in this activity. My participation in this activity is purely voluntary, and I elect to participate in spite of the risks. I hereby voluntarily release, forever discharge, and agree to indemnify and hold harmless PUP from any and all claims, demands, or causes of action which are in any way connected with my participation in the activity or my use of PUP's equipment or facilities, including any such claims which allege negligent acts or omissions of PUP.

Should PUP or anyone acting on their behalf, be required to incur attorney's fee and cots to enforce this agreement, I agree to indemnify and hold them harmless for all such fees and costs.

I certify that I have adequate insurance to cover any injury or damage I may cause or suffer while participating, or else I agree to bear the cost of such injury or damage to myself. I further certify that I am wiling to assume the risk of any medical or physical condition I may have.

In the event that I file a lawsuit against PUP, I agree to do so solely in the state of Minnesota, and I further agree that the substantive law of that state shall apply in that action without regard to the conflict of law rules of that state. I agree that if any portion of this agreement is found to be void or unenforceable, the remain document shall remain in full force and effect.

By signing this document, I acknowledge that if anyone is hurt or property is damaged during my participation in the activity, I may be found by a court of law to have waived my right to maintain a lawsuit against PUP on the basis of any claim from which I have released them herein. I have sufficient opportunity to read this entire document. I have read and understood it, and I agree to be bound by its terms.
