Important Police Message …..

Please could we kindly ask Parents that park along Road not to park outside the Fire Station or use the car park as a turning circle. In an emergency the Police/Fire Station need clear access to and from their building.

Also could we please remind parents that park in Highfield Avenue to be considerate of residents, pedestrians and other vehicles when parking. If possible please refrain from parking on the bend by the green as it makes it very difficult for other vehicles to get past and manoeuvre.

Many thanks for your co-operation, Mrs Hall & Malcolm Burgess (PCSO)

Dear Parents…

You may be aware that Mr Phillips had announced his intention to retire at the end of this academic year, after thirteen extremely rewarding years here at St Columb Major Academy. We have been very fortunate to have such a dedicated and committed Headteacher and will be really sorry to lose him.

The Directors of ACE liaised with our Local Advisory Board of Governors and it was agreed for Mr Phillips to continue in the role of Deputy CEO from half term, one which he has been covering recently due to sickness. He will hold overall responsibility for St Columb Major Academy until the end of the Summer Term. Further details will follow later in the term outlining how the school and the community will say farewell to Mr Phillips.

We are really pleased with the support and enthusiasm we have received from Mrs Michelle Hall, appointed as Associate Head here until the end of the Summer term.

An advertisement for the appointment of a new Headteacher has now been placed by ACE both locally and nationally – and the new appointment process will be completed by the end of the Spring Term.

In the meantime I am sure we would all like to wish Mr Phillips all the very best for the remaining months in his role as Deputy CEO. We look forward to his regular visits to us here at St Columb Major Academy.

Class News…

Year 4 Visit to Falmouth Maritime Museum

On Friday, the Year 4 children from Classes 9 and 10 visited the Falmouth Maritime museum as part of their topic learning on the Vikings. The children took part in workshops where they learnt about what life was like for a Viking 1200 years ago, got to experience the clothing they would have worn, found out about the importance of trading, looked at a typical Viking boat and got to make their own coins! As well as this, the classes also got a grand tour of the Museum and got to enjoy the stunning views across the harbour, and also under it!

The children were highly commended by the staff and volunteers at the museum for their outstanding behaviour and their impressive knowledge about this subject. We now look forward to continuing our exciting topic in class and for homework!

St Columb Major Time-capsule

The school council have been working hard to come up with ideas for items and pieces work to include in a Silver Ball Sculpture that will be placed on top of the Town Hall roof. Award winning sculptor, Tim Fuge, came up with the idea of making the hollow piece of art into a time- capsule, so what life was like in St Columb Major Academy on 24th January 2017 is permanently recorded. To add to the excitement of this project, the school was visited by BBC Spotlight and Radio Cornwall who are following this story.
