Simple, dura y sincera historia que comienza en medio de un paisaje agreste, seco e ingrato, y se traslada al mar que el indígena siempre quiso conocer, pero haciéndolo con el engaño de que iba a defender la Patria. Luego de quemado el cuerpo, la niña deberá ingresar a un convento para viudas por el resto de su vida. Conmovedor y encantador film de Deepa Mehta que aborda y cuestiona una tradición sagrada y las consecuencias cuando entra en conflicto la conciencia con la fé.
