Eaglemoss Starship Comparison Chart – Middle Scale Aliens Alien Middle Scale Comparison Chart Size Analysis for alien Ships of Scale 2 to 9 This is my Scale estimates of the ships in the Eaglemoss Alien Starships picture (posted on the Wixiban website as of March 2021). The ships below are listed in rough order by horizontal order, starting from the top left of the page (so left-to-right, line-by-line, just like reading a page of text). My rough sense of Scale is as follows: Ship Length Scale 0 to 20 meters 1 20 to 100 meters 2 100 to 240 meters 3 240 to 400 meters 4 400 to 600 meters 5 600 to 800 meters 6 800 to 1400 meters 7 1400 to ~1800 meters 8 More than 1800 meters 9+ Keep in mind, these are NOT exact numbers! (Y’know, obviously.) I had to eyeball each and every ship in all three pictures and decide if they had sufficient mass to qualify as a particular Scale or another. A few ships had a thin, needle-like design that, while they had a sufficient length to qualify as a higher Scale, they didn’t look as if they had the sufficient mass for that Scale; thus, I had to downgrade them in Scale. I found a number of ships that struck me as being right on the borderline of adjacent Scales, so I had to make a judgment call (sometimes based on additional factors where available) as to which Scale those ships belonged. A detailed discussion of my approach to Scale is in the Federation Middle Scale document. What’s with the Warbird? You’ll likely notice a supposed discrepancy right off: the Romulan D’deridex-class Warbird and its Scale of 7 instead of 6 in the corebook rules. This is for several reasons: 1. The original corebook assumed the D’deridex was roughly only 1,000 meters long, rather than its official length of 1,353 meters which is almost twice the length of a Galaxy-class. 2. Even though the D’deridex has a lot of empty space in its center, it still seems to outmass a Galaxy-class, so much so that I was never convinced that a fight between a Galaxy and a D’deridex would be an even fight. 3. A D’deridex is almost as large as Deep Space 9, so claiming a fight between a Galaxy and a ship almost large enough to match a space station known to fight off entire fleets would be an even fight seems particularly ridiculous to me. Analysis by Christian “Su-tehp” Fernandez-Duque Klingon Bortasqu’-class (Star Trek Online) Romulan Science Vessel Scale 7 Scale 4 1,126m in length 300m in length Klingon Battlecruiser D7-class (TOS) Klingon Battlecruiser D7-class (ST: Discovery) Scale 4 Scale 5 228m in length 503m in length Technically, this is under 240 meters which Beacon of Kahless should make it Scale 3, but it does seem to have Scale 3 enough mass to rate Scale 4. Besides, I don’t want 120m in length to downgrade such an iconic Star Trek ship. Its published stats say it’s Scale 4 and thus a match for a TOS Scale 4 Constitution. It’s more trouble Klingon IKS Negh’Var to change than it’s worth. Besides, as with the D-7 above, it’s 371.88m in length too much trouble to change such an iconic ship. Klingon Bird-of-Prey (ST: Discovery) Scale 3 Klingon Vor cha-class 188.7m in length ’ Scale 5 Cardassian Hideki-class 481m in length Scale 2 Klingon Battlecruiser D7-class (Kelvin Timeline) 85.78m in length Scale 4 350m in length Baran’s Raider Scale 3 Klingon B’rel-class Bird-of-Prey 220m in length Scale 3 139m in length Romulan Warbird “Valdore” Valdore-type Scale 6 Romulan RRW Vastam (Star Trek Online) 605.5m in length Scale 7 974.4m in length Reman Warbird “Scimitar” I was wavering between Scale 6 or 7 for the Scale 8 Vastam since it’s significantly larger than a 890m in length Galaxy (Scale 6) but not quite as large as a The Scimitar doesn’t have the length D’deridex (Scale 7). What convinced me that for Scale 8, but it is wide enough and the Vastam was Scale 7 is the fact (according massive enough to rate as Scale 8. to Memory Beta) that it has the same crew complement as the D’deridex: 1,500 crewmembers. Analysis by Christian Fernandez-Duque Voth Research Vessel Promellian Battlecruiser Scale 3 Scale 6 130m in length 600m in length I was wavering between Scale 5 and 6 for the Orion Scout Ship (23nd C) Promellian Battlecruiser. This ship seems to Scale 3 just straddle the border between scales. It 110m in length doesn’t quite strike me as massive enough as a Galaxy (Scale 6) but its length of 600 meters Void Ship just puts it over the top to reach Scale 6 in my Scale 2 humble opinion. 75m in length Nightingale Jem Hadar Fighter ’ Scale 4 Scale 3 320m in length 95m in length Borg Sphere Bajoran Solar Sailor Scale 7 Scale 2 600m in length 49m in length Technically shorter than a Scale 6 Galaxy, but Bajoran Assault Vessel it’s a sphere, so it outmasses a Galaxy, thus Scale 7. This matches its published stats in the Scale 3 Delta Quadrant Sourcebook anyway. 140.72m in length Merchantman Bajoran Freighter Scale 3 Scale 4 150m in length 250m in length Jem’Hadar Battleship Deep Space 9 (Cardassian Nor-class Space Station) Scale 8 Scale 8 1,500m in length 1,451.82m in length Scale 8 because this thing is at least as See DS9’s entry in the Massive Comparison massive as Deep Space 9. According to The Official Starships Collection Magazine, Issue 109, the Borg Scale 5 Queen’s Ship is much smaller than a Borg 560m in length Cube and is slightly larger than a Borg Sphere. As such, with its official length of 820.4 Kazon Raider meters, I’ve rated it Scale 7. Of course, there’s Scale 3 nothing stopping anyone from using the 160m in length Octahedron depicted in the Delta Quadrant Gomtuu book as a Borg field command vessel or something similarly sinister.... • Recent Trend of Patent Infringement Suits Against Activision, Blizzard, Microsoft, Electronic Arts and Other Video Game Companies
Walker Digital Enters the Game: Recent Trend of Patent Infringement Suits Against Activision, Blizzard, Microsoft, Electronic Arts and Other Video Game Companies 06.01.2011 Over the last few months, Walker Digital, a patent holding company formed by Priceline.com founder Jay Walker, has filed infringement suits against over 100 companies, particularly targeting the video game industry. Given the number of suits, the breadth of the asserted claims and Walker Digital’s purported resources, these lawsuits are likely to entangle others in the gaming industry. In January, 2011, Walker Digital filed its first suit in federal court in Delaware against Activision and Blizzard (Call of Duty, DJ Hero 2, World of Warcraft) and Zynga (Farmville), alleging infringement of U.S. Patent No. 6,425,828 (“the ‘828 Patent”), regarding a method for conducting a networked electronic tournament for multiple players and storing player information. While games developed by these companies require individual player accounts, they are not traditional “tournament” games. A few months later, Walker Digital filed another lawsuit in Delaware asserting the ‘828 Patent, as well as a related patent, U.S. Patent No. 6,224,486 (“the ‘486 Patent”), targeting a number of other gaming developers and publishers, including Electronic Arts (Madden, Medal of Honor), Microsoft (Halo, Gears of War), Rockstar (Red Dead Redemption), and Ubisoft (Assassin’s Creed). In these complaints, Walker Digital alleges that the defendants have used the patented technology for tournament games to “exchange information with a central computer to influence game play, and also store certain information that is available for use in subsequent tournament play.” The patents’ specifications reveal that they are broadly directed at methods and devices for conducting multiple tournaments wherein player information is collected and stored from one tournament to the next.

MAJOR KIRA OF STAR TREK: DS9: WOMAN OF THE FUTURE, CREATION OF THE 90S Judith Clemens-Smucker A Thesis Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF ARTS December 2020 Committee: Becca Cragin, Advisor Jeffrey Brown Kristen Rudisill © 2020 Judith Clemens-Smucker All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Becca Cragin, Advisor The 1990s were a time of resistance and change for women in the Western world. During this time popular culture offered consumers a few women of strength and power, including Star Trek: Deep Space Nine’s Major Kira Nerys, a character encompassing a complex personality of non-traditional feminine identities. As the first continuing character in the Star Trek franchise to serve as a female second-in-command, Major Kira spoke to women of the 90s through her anger, passion, independence, and willingness to show compassion and love when merited. In this thesis I look at the building blocks of Major Kira to discover how it was possible to create a character in whom viewers could see the future as well as the current and relatable decade of the 90s. By laying out feminisms which surround 90s television and using original interviews with Nana Visitor, who played Major Kira, and Marvin Rush, the Director of Photography on DS9, I examine the creation of Major Kira from her conception to her realization. I finish by using historical and cognitive poetics to analyze both the pilot episode “Emissary” and the season one episode “Duet,” which introduce Major Kira and display character growth.

  • Adaptive Harmonics: Star Trek's Universe and Galaxy of Games By
Adaptive harmonics: Star Trek’s Universe and Galaxy of Games By Douglas Brown In the rapidly growing academic discipline of games studies, we talk about Trek a lot. This may seem surprising since, though the franchise has had many game adaptations, none are considered outstanding, much less classics. So we consider the show's use of games and game-like experiences as emblematic of many of the pleasures, problems, and possibilities the modern games industry grapples with. The most frequent topic of discussion is immersion, where Janet Murray'si reading of a Voyagerii scene leads in to her appreciation of the games Trek characters constantly play in the holodeck, which has become an abiding metaphor when we try to define games and how they work. It’s less the show or its games, rather the themes and ideas which the fiction made accessible, that we call upon when analysing modern videogames. Here, I'll consider the unique challenges and opportunities for adaptation to the medium of games which the franchise raises, and examine various attempts at adaptation. The show and its fan community subtly influenced the medium of games by adapting the themes and concepts which Trek introduced to suit the purposes of the medium rather than production of outstanding licensed games. This is perhaps best revealed in the sphere of unlicensed/fan-created games inspired by Trek. Trek's distinctive approach to games was mostly inclusive, certainly ahead of its time, especially considering the prevailing climate of thought and reception as to games during the series’ production. Digital Games then were perceived as little more than children's' toys or simple distractions.

Properties like Star Trek , Star Wars , and the Marvel Comics Universe extend across fi lm, television, video games, novels, comics, toys, and so on. Media consumers are now able to engage with their favorite characters, locations, and other franchise- distinguishing features in a variety of ways, through several different kinds of media. Viewers/readers/players follow the franchise, enjoying the interrelationships that are created across the textual galaxies. Such stories, characters and settings are transmedial in that they cross borders between different media, and traditional boundaries between media forms do not always hold fast or refl ect the audience’s experience of media engagement. 1 In this kind of multimedia network, music can illuminate the relationship between constituent texts of a transmedial franchise and may act as an agent for articulating and constructing those textual connections.
