Even the original plumbing fixtures and shower heads are being handled with care so as not to damage or detract from the building. “All the third floor apartments — when got here — were in the original condition.” Loyd said, “A deteriorated condition. Even the bathrooms had the original toilets, the original tubs.” One of the major hardships encountered by the contractor were the old, 500-pound cast iron bathtubs, which workers had to break apart in order to remove. When it comes time to replace them, Loyd says they will be using modern equipment that matches the period of the originals.
