Designed and built specifically with divers in mind, Kalimaya Dive Resort is on the next frontier offering out- of-this-world diving. Nestled away in a 400 meter private bay, Kalimaya Dive Resort ensures a unique diving experience. Enjoy the comforts of a boutique diving resort, whilst taking in the tranquility and peacefulness of a beachfront adventure. Spend your days underwater enjoying beautiful diving and your evenings with new friends in the restaurant and lounge… or find your own piece of paradise while walking the 400 meter sandybeach of our private bay. DIVING Located in the heart of the coral triangle, Indonesia has some of the greatest marine biodiversity in the world. For this, Kalimaya Dive Resort is perfectly located to provide next level diving year round. At Kalimaya dive resort you can enjoy three distinct types of diving: macro/muck diving, current diving, and coral diving. • Macro/muck diving is a style of diving where we explore a reef environment to find the weird but wonderful life forms that inhabit these sandy reefs. Our house reef has already provided the following: Bumblebee Shrimp, Paddleflap Rhinopea, Lacy Rhinopea, Candy Crabs, Starry Night Octopus and Bobtail squid among others. Sangean Volcano provides a breeding ground for every nudibranch possible (we counted 35 species on our last visit!) along with Wunderpus, Frogfish and so much more... We recommend Kalimaya House Reef, Lapponia, Pipefish City, Disco Doris and any site located on Sangean Volcano. • Current diving is what the Komodo National Park and Gili Banta are particularly famous for. This style of diving includes drift dives, where we can explore a vast expanse of the reef while letting the current push us along, and pinnacle dives where we stay in one spot to allow the currents to wash past us, bringing in nutrients and big schools of fish. These areas are bringing to us bigger, pelagic creatures including but not limited to blacktip, whitetip and grey reef sharks, oceanic and reef manta rays, mobula rays, eagle rays, schooling tuna and jack fish to name a few… but don’t take our word for it, come see it yourself! Highlights include Galley Rock, Mexican Hat, Rollercoaster, Pannetonne Wall and The Waterfalls. • Coral diving is a nice relaxed way to explore the beautiful underwater gardens and coral reef habitats. Here we take our time to explore sloping reefs, walls, pinnacles, and caverns to enjoy the flora and fauna of these underwater jungles. Get ready to be amazed by some of the healthiest corals in the world which beautiful reef fish and turtles call home. Kalimaya Canyon, Roger’s Reef, Easter Island and J’s Dream are particular sweet spots in this category. ACCOMMODATION DESIGNED BY DIVERS, FOR DIVERS Wake up to the sun over Komodo. Situated facing east, all of our bungalows have a direct ocean view so that you can wake up to the sun rising over Komodo Island and Gili Banta and fall asleep to the sound of waves lapping on the ocean. Through our extensive planning and development, we have made sure to source all available materials from local communities on Sumbawa Island. Our bungalows have been traditionally constructed by Indonesian teams using a combination of Teak and Mahogany sourced from local farms. They have been designed to offer the utmost guest satisfaction while fitting into the natural surroundings full of local flora and fauna. All of Kalimaya Dive Resort’s spacious waterfront bungalows are over 30 square meters with large queen sized beds, air conditioning, blackout curtains, private bathrooms including an open outdoor shower, plenty of storage space, a work desk and chair perfect for photo editing, and a beautiful private covered terrace to relax after an amazing day of diving. If you are solo-travelling or looking to share accommodation with a friend, our bungalows can be modified to provide twin accommodations as well. RESTAURANT & LOUNGE The Kalimaya restaurant and lounge is a beautiful open space where guests can relax in comfort enjoying a drink by the pool, relaxing on the sofas reading a book, or socializing. As a small resort, all meals are served family style on our giant communal table. We offer a variety of dishes influenced by Indonesian, Asian, and international cuisines to keep your taste buds entertained. Located between two small villages which primarily rely on fishing and farming to survive, we try to locally source as many ingredients as possible. By developing connections with these villages it not only provides the opportunity to support the local community, but it also provides the freshest ingredients available to make the most delicious food. All fish is sourced by traditional practices, usually via outrigger boat using a small net, or a canoe with a single line and hook. At least once a week we offer a barbeque night giving you the chance to enjoy local grilled chicken, fish, and vegetables. As part of your stay you will be provided with breakfast, lunch, and dinner as well as coffee, tea, and drinking water for your enjoyment, free of charge in the restaurant. Soft drinks, fresh juices, local beer, wine, and additional snacks are available for purchase throughout the day. Should there be a special dietary requirement, we can cater for your needs with advanced notice. Located only 20km north of the Sape ferry terminal (a 15 minute drive), and with multiple airlines offering daily flights from Bali Denpasar (DPS) to Bima (BMU) within 50 minutes, 40 minutes from Lombok (LOP), and Makassar; we can help you get to the resort and into your vacation as quick as possible. We are happy to help our guests in arranging domestic flights and local transit.     If you are wondering what’s the difference in diving between Puerto Galera and Dumaguete, dive both! If you only have time for one you may consider the following differences: ● Dive sites- both locations offer house reefs, and day trips. ○ Puerto Galera diving is mostly colorful reefs with very diverse topography, such as walls, ledges, big coral heads and even a proper wreck (Alma Jane). There are a couple of sites for muck diving, and quite a few sites that are only suitable for advanced divers (Canyons, Kilima Drift). ○ Dumaguete dive sites offer a combination of sloping reef and sandy areas; muck diving fanatics are in heaven here as our coastal diving is like muck diving but with 40’ + visibility, a black sand bottom instead of silt, no trash yet with all the same critters found in the muck. There are also several artificial reef sites in Dumaguete (House Reef, Cars, Sahara, Ginamaan), and all sites are diveable for beginners. ● Day trips out of Puerto Galera include Verde Island, while from Dumaguete you can dive Apo Island, Siquijor and snorkel with the whale sharks in Oslob ● Current- Puerto Galera typically has more current than Dumaguete. ● Aquatic Life ○ Puerto Galera - you’re more likely to spot pelagics here because of stronger currents, plus, there are more nudibranchs (over 180 species) than Dumaguete. Compared to Anilao, Puerto Galera offers greater fish and coral variety. ○ Dumaguete- offers a higher diversity of coastal diving critters, and the fish are less shy because of the Marine protected Areas. Diving in Apo Island (a day trip from Dumaguete) offers the colorful corals, many turtles and a chance of seeing pelagics such as sharks and rays.

Legend has it that after a particularly long drought in the Dolabang Village at Pura Island, a local man, Olangki, made a journey to Reta Village to borrow rice. The following year, while on way to return the borrowed rice, he saw a pig on the top of Maru Mountain. He tried, but failed, to slay the pig. In his despair, he asked for help from Dewa “God” to give him water and in return he would give away his daughter, “Bui”. The sky turned dark and with it came a big rain which flooded the village. After he gave his daughter to the God, the rain stopped. After a year, the villagers had enough food and water to live on. They celebrated their good fortune with the Lego-Lego Dance and invited Bui to join them. Bui was believed to be married to the God of the mountain. While dancing, Bui asked her mother to take care of her baby that was wrapped in a blanket. She told her mother not to open the blanket. Despite her request, the mother opened the blanket and found a big red fish. She could not resist eating one of the eyes. When Bui discovered that the mother had hurt her baby, she ran and locked herself inside Bitu Era cave at the top of the mountain. She promised herself that there would be no more hunger and thirst for her family and village.

    Print version diving in Lembeh Strait, Northern Sulawesi, Indonesia Copyright Teresa Zubi www.starfish.ch Lembeh strait is one of the most interesting marine habitats that I know, a real macro paradise and a great place to do scuba diving! I first dived here in 1994 but have come back many times and must have done over a two hundred dives only here, so I know the place rather well. There are over 50 dive sites around the Lembeh strait, most of them are either sandy areas or small reefs. Don't expect spectacular walls or huge reefs, here you are doing so called muck diving - searching for the rare and the special (for more good places for muck diving look at Secret Bay and Padang Bai in Bali, Dauin in Negros, Cabilao in Bohol situated in the Philippines and Mabul in Borneo). I am a frogfish specialist and the Lembeh strait is just full of them. But its also a good place to see other shy critters such as the mimic octopus, the flamboyant cuttlefish, harlequin shrimps, wonderpus, skeleton shrimps and many nudibranchs. The fish at this place are also a collection of weirdoes: Ambon scorpionfish (Pteroidichthys amboinensis), stonefish, sea robins, stargazers, devil fish and even the weedy scorpionfish (Rhinopias frondosa). There are also beautiful seahorses (we counted at least 7 different species, pygmy and others), pegasus, ghost pipefish and the endemic Banggai cardinalfish. Although most divers come here for the muck diving, Lembeh has much more to offer. Specially around Lembeh island there are some small but very beautiful coral reefs and at the northern tip at Batu Kapal the currents attract large pelagics like mackerels and sharks.There are also four beautifully covered wrecks, two of them large and all within limits for recreational diving.
