  • Mission Accomplished for Sordo and Marti
Acropolis Rally of Greece (11-14 June, 2009) – Day 3 Mission accomplished for Sordo and Marti After restarting under the SupeRally ruling for the third and final day of the 2009 Acropolis Rally of Greece, Dani Sordo and Marc Marti achieved their aims by scoring four points for Citroën in the Manufacturers’ world championship. Day 3 of the Acropolis Rally was held near the service park in Loutraki. The day began with a loop comprising three stages, including a run through Aghii Theodori, a daunting 33 km stage. After restarting in 17th position in the overall standings, the only goal for Dani Sordo and Marc Marti was to finish in order to score a handful of points for Citroën in the Manufacturers’ championship. Arriving in Loutraki for the midday service, Dani Sordo was fully focused on the job in hand: “It’s never easy to run at a controlled pace but I’m taking no risks. I’m staying in the middle of the road – at times, it feels like we’re doing a recce!” Following the cancellation of a stage, the rally concluded with a second run through Aghii Theodori. Running at the same pace, Dani finished in 12 th position, which is worth four points in the Manufacturers’ standings. “Dani and Marc did a perfect job,” concluded Citroën Total World Rally Team team manager Sven Smeets. “These points are even more important because our rivals once again took a maximum score. We’re already looking ahead to the next rally. We’ll be going to Rally Poland even hungrier for a win!” RALLY FACTS Dani Sordo / Marc Marti Stage Overall SS13 : Loutraki 1 (8,98 km) 3rd +1’’5 16 th +19’33’’0 SS14 : Aghii Theodori (33,00 km) 5th +10’’0 14 th +19’21’’1 SS15 : New Pissia (11,30 km) 2nd +0’’2 14 th +19’10’’7 SS16 : Loutraki 2 (8,98 km) SS CANCELLED SS17 : Aghii Theodori (33,00 km) 2nd +5’’3 12 th +18’41’’0 Stage wins Day 1 – SS1 : Jari-Matti Latvala (Ford Focus) – SS2 : Dani Sordo (Citroën C4) – SS3 : annulée – SS4 : Evgeny Novikov (Citroën C4) – SS5 : Sébastien Ogier (Citroën C4) – SS6 : Mikko Hirvonen (Ford Focus).

FASTEST STAGE TIMES (EVENT) 12. WHAT IS THE PRODUCTION CAR WRC? 13. NEXT ROUND 1. EVENT SUMMARY Al-Attiyah returns to P-WRC winning form in Argentina Nasser Al-Attiyah (QAT, Subaru) hadn’t won a round of the FIA Production Car World Rally Championship since 2006 – the same year he won the title – but he returned to winning form on Rally Argentina. Co-driven by Giovanni Bernacchini, the reigning Middle East Rally Champion led the P-WRC section on three separate occasions, as an exciting battle for victory saw five drivers set fastest stage times and four different drivers lead. Al-Attiyah’s strategy of pacing himself over the rough and rocky terrain paid dividends, as he won the P-WRC category in Argentina for the third time in his career – and in doing so stakes his claim on this year’s title. At the halfway point of the season, Al-Attiyah is now second in the championship with 21 points – two points behind Armindo Araujo (P, Mitsubishi) and one point ahead of Patrik Sandell (S, Skoda). The rocky gravel roads around the rally’s base in Villa Carlos Paz – with the majority of the 331.80kms of stages taking place on the open plains of the Punilla Valley (day one and three) and in the Traslasierra Mountain region (day two) – were to prove a great challenge for the six Mitsubishi Lancers and five Subaru Imprezas which made up the P-WRC entry.

Team Championship Standing 3. Results (Event) 6. Next Round 1. EV ENT SUMMARY Two in a row for Xevi Pons in Jordan In Jordan Rally, his second event of the season, Spanish Ford Fiesta driver Xevi Pons and his co-driver Alex Haro took their second win in a row in the 2010 FIA Super 2000 World Rally Championship. Despite not having tested since México, Pons was the only S-WRC driver not to retire on any day of the three day event. He only claimed three stage wins (SS5-7), but Pons’ consistency and increasing familiarity with his Fiesta scooped him a comfortable win and 25 accompanying S-WRC points. With a maximum 50 points, he now sits comfortably at the top of the S-WRC leader board. Against the odds, Norwegian Eyvind Brynildsen came in a clear second ahead of fellow Škoda driver P-G Andersson (SWE), who took the last place on the podium. Despite finishing nearly 12 minutes behind winner Pons, Brynildsen was happy with his performance, after a rear differential problem forced him to miss the final stage of Day One and then complete the rally with the car effectively stuck in front-wheel drive. Swedish driver Andersson headed up the rest of the S-WRC field, only six of whom completed the rally, to take points after a weekend of mayhem. Seven retirements on Day One alone left Fiesta drivers Bernardo Sousa (PRT) and Pons battling for the top spot.
