A Busy Week in April, 2010

By Jack A. Simpson

Every once in awhile we piece an issue together with a chronology of a week or so where we present our activities as a way to focus on some of the issues of the day. One of our goals is to develop historical text that may allow us to "remember when" when we look back from some place in the future.

Our week starting with Monday, April 19th was Retired City Manager Robert L. Williams an eventful stretch of time. Actually, I wanted to start this chronology with the 90th birthday party of veteran retired City Manager Bob Williams in Santa Fe Springs, but my attendance wasn't to be. It is reported that more than 100 people were on hand to wish Bob "Happy Birthday." We join all those "well-wishers" to salute Bob for his many years of public service, and to wish him "Happy Birthday." Bob and Mary Ann Williams pose with Mary Jane Oring, By all reports, the 90th birthday party of Bob and ICMA Past-President Roy Pederson. Mary Jane and Williams was a huge success. Among those Roy flew in from Arizona for Bob's party. who attended were former City Managers: Roy Pederson, a Past-President of ICMA, who flew in from Arizona; Bill Crowe, currently Assistant City Manager in El Segundo and former Rosemead City Manager; Ray Harris, currently the Transportation Deputy for County Supervisor Don Knabe; Andy Takata, currently the Banning City Manager; Brea City Manager Tim O'Donnell; retired City Manager Dennis Courtemarche; and, of course, Santa Fe Springs Bob Williams chats with former City Manager Ray Harris, City Manager Fred Latham, who organized the currently the Transportation Deputy in Supervisor Don Knabe's office. Ray made a presentation on behalf of the event. We extend our sincere apologies to Bob Supervisor, as did Roy Pederson on behalf of ICMA. and to Fred Latham for our failure to appear.
