62 National LGBTQ Task Force 3 INTRODUCTION Foreword At the National LGBTQ Task Force, we recognize that everyone has a fundamental right to sexual health and bodily autonomy, which includes the right to decide whether or when to become a parent, to parent the children we have, and to do so with dignity and free from violence and discrimination. We support the reproductive health, rights, and justice (“repro*”) movements because LGBTQ people need access to reproductive healthcare and services such as abortion, HIV care, and family planning. Yet we continue to face pervasive and government-sanctioned discrimination designed to block recognition of our relationships and hinder our ability to form and protect our families. The reproductive health, rights, and justice (repro*) and LGBTQ movements are inseparable: we are all working for the right to choose who and how we love and how we use our bodies—without government, employer or harmful religious intrusion. Those who oppose comprehensive and affordable reproductive healthcare

This approach centers the labor of women of color in contemporary adoption and highlights adoption’s privileging of white, American adoptive parents’ reproductive destinies. KEYWORDS: reproductive justice, birth mothers, reproductive labor ARISING FROM women-of-color activism in the 1990s, reproductive justice ad- dresses the ways women of color and Indigenous women routinely are denied the rights of bodily autonomy given to white women.1 Examining women’s holistic lives and the multidimensional forces affecting women’s bodily autonomy (Ross and Solinger; SisterSong), reproductive justice underscores how “reproductive op- pression is a result of the intersections of multiple oppressions and is inherently connected to the struggle for social justice and human rights” (Asian). The deploy- ment of an intersectional lens accounts for the interconnected nature of seemingly disparate issues—“forced sterilization, environmental toxins in breast milk, man- datory drug testing of women on public assistance, and the lack of social support for poor women to have and raise the number of children they want” (Thomsen 149).

    November 2020 Dear Marylanders, The Maryland Department of Health (MDH) Center for STI Prevention (CSTIP) is pleased to present the 2019 Maryland STI Annual Report. Under Maryland law, health care providers and laboratories must report all laboratory-confirmed cases of chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis to the state health department or the local health department where a patient resides. Other STIs, such as herpes, trichomoniasis, and human papillomavirus (HPV), also affect sexual and reproductive health, but these are not reportable infections and therefore cannot be tracked and are not included in this report. CSTIP epidemiologists collect, interpret and disseminate population-level data based on the reported cases of chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis and congenital syphilis, to inform state and local health officials, health care providers, policymakers and the public about disease trends and their public health impact. The data include cases, rates, and usually, Maryland’s national rankings for each STI, which are calculated once all states’ STI data are reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The CDC then publishes these data, including state-by-state rankings, each fall for the prior year. The 2019 report is not expected to be released until early 2021 because of COVID-related lags in reporting across the country. The increases in STIs observed in Maryland over the past 10 years mirrors those occurring nationwide, and the increasing public health, medical and economic burden of STIs are cause for deep concern. The causes for these increases are likely multi-factorial. According to CDC, data suggest contributing factors include: Substance use, poverty, stigma, and unstable housing, all of which can reduce access to prevention and care Decreased condom use among vulnerable groups Shrinking public health resources over years resulting in clinic closures, reduced screening, staff loss, and reduced patient follow-up and linkage to care services Stemming the tide of STIs requires national, state and local collaboration.

Like much of cultural anthropology, Queer anthropological theory and practice is by nature interdisciplinary. We will cover influential texts from a range of disciplines to understand how these ideas have helped shape the development and trajectory of queer anthropology. This collection of readings will also highlight the intersections of, and contradictions between, queer theoretical perspectives and ethnography. We will begin by tracing the development of queer anthropology as a subfield of anthropological theory and practice. Readings will elaborate a variety of frames that have been used to study sexuality as an object of analysis, and will reveal influential debates and contentions about its study. Next, we will examine foundational texts that interrogate how sexual norms, identities, and subject positions have been discursively produced in the west.     If You Really Care about Educational Equity, You Should Care about Reproductive Justice! What is Reproductive Justice? The Reproductive Justice (RJ) movement places reproductive health and rights within a social justice framework.1 The movement supports the right of individuals to have the children they want, raise the children they have, and plan their families through safe, legal access to abortion and contraception. In order to make these rights a reality, the movement recognizes that RJ will only be achieved when all people have the resources, as well as the economic, social, and political power, to make healthy decisions about their bodies, sexuality, and reproduction.2 Advancing RJ will help to eliminate pervasive racial disparities in educational attainment by valuing the talents and abilities of those students who chose to become parents. Improving educational opportunities, especially for those in under-funded schools in marginalized neighborhoods, will also make parenting less desirable for teens whose odds of escaping poverty are not made any worse by having a child.3 Why is Reproductive Justice an Education Issue? Reproductive Justice demands that schools provide comprehensive sexuality education, which helps students prevent unintended pregnancies and increases their chances of graduating. Social injustices have created long-standing disparities in education access and quality. Schools in high-poverty districts receive significantly less funding than their higher income counterparts,4 reducing the chances of students in these districts to receive a quality education. High-poverty districts also often have more students who identify as People of Color.5 These educational inequities are also seen in the sexuality education provided to students.

We work in partnership with local organizations and national movements to ensure all people have the ability to decide if, when, and how to create and sustain a family. AFRICAN-AMERICAN Due to continuing institutionalized racism and a history of reproductive oppression,1 many African-Americans today have limited access to adequate reproductive healthcare, higher rates of reproductive health issues, and are disproportionately impacted by restrictions on family health services.2 Low-income people are especially likely to lack control over their reproductive choices, and in 2011, 25.9% of African-Americans lived at or below the poverty level, compared to 10.6% of non-Hispanic white people.3 Pregnancy: • 67% of African-Americans’ pregnancies are unintended, compared to 40% for non-Hispanic, white people.4 • Ectopic pregnancy rates in African-Americans have declined more slowly than the national rate.

It will respond to these recommendations no later than the 48th session of the Human Rights Council. A. SOGIESC Information National Report 31. At all levels of government, Belgium has developed tools to tackle discrimination against LGBTQI+ persons and vulnerable groups more generally. At the regional level, the Flemish Region’s plan of action against discrimination in the workplace focuses on awareness-raising, self-regulation, monitoring and sanctions. Self-regulation has been introduced through sectoral agreements and an action plan providing for “mystery calls” to be made to service-voucher companies.
