As per Government of India (GoI) official records, the domestic passenger traffic registered a CAGR rate of 10.76% during the period 2007-08 to 2017-18 while the international passenger traffic grew at CAGR rate of 8.32% during the same period. Lion’s share of its growth might be attributed to success of Low Cost Carriers in India. With the recent introduction of the ‘Regional Connectivity Scheme’ also known as UDAN Scheme, this growth rate is going to be phenomenal in coming years due to the inclusion of tier-2 and tier-3 cities in to the Air Connectivity network by making the air travel affordable to middle class common man. Study has been carried out at selected UDAN airports to examine the impact of UDAN scheme on Indian Civil Aviation Sector and concluded that due to success of operation at six airports out of selected seven airports and success of 18 routes out of 24 routes; the civil aviation scenario is definitely going to have a considerable improvement in near future if the scheme is continued with the same spirit.

CHAUDHARY: SHRI DILIPKUMAR MANSUKHLAL GANDHI: SHRI NARANBHAI KACHHADIYA: Will the Minister of HOME AFFAIRS be pleased to state: (a) whether the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has been mandated to provide security to all civilian airports in the country; (b) if so, whether all such airports are protected by the CISF; (c) if not, the reasons therefor and the details and number of airports where CISF security is mandated for but not provided along with the corrective measures taken/proposed to be taken by the Government in this regard; (d) whether other agencies that are patrolling the civilian airports instead of the CISF are trained appropriately in order to replace the CISF in their duties and if so, the details thereof; (e) the total funds paid to the CISF on an annual basis by public and private airport operators for providing security services during each of the last three years and the current year, State-wise; and (f) the unpaid dues to the CISF for providing security services to the airports, airport-wise along with the steps taken to recover all pending funds? It provides Air traffic management (ATM) services over Indian airspace and adjoining oceanic areas. It also manages a total of 125 Airports, including 11 International Airports, 8 Customs Airports, 81 Domestic Airports and 25 Civil enclaves at Military Airfields. AAI also has ground installations at all airports and 25 other locations to ensure safety of aircraft operations. AAI's implementation of Automatic Dependence Surveillance System (ADSS), using indigenous technology, at Kolkata and Chennai Air Traffic Control Centres, made India the first country to use this technology in the South East Asian region thus enabling Air Traffic Control over oceanic areas using satellite mode of communication.

    Vibrant India Volume- 1 Number- XV Neha Sinha Research Associate, VIF 9 June 2017 ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Naagrik) : Cheap Airfare Scheme by the Indian Government On 27 April, 2017 Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi launched a scheme from Shimla named ‘Ude Desh Ka Aam Naagrik’ (UDAN) with a vision that travelling by air is not only for the rich but for everyone. He mentioned that his dream is to see every person wearing the ubiquitous Hawai chappal (slippers) fly on the Hawai Jahaj (aeroplane). The newly introduced scheme will help the people fly to small towns at cheaper airfares of Rs 2500 or so. With the motive to make regional connectivity easy, Mr. Modi flagged off three flights during the launch of the scheme, i.e. from Shimla, Nanded and Kadapa Airports. The Prime Minister addressed the gathering at Shimla Airport, while in Nanded and Kadapa he addressed the gathering via video link. This scheme would operationalise some of the inactive airports like Shimla, Bikaner, Agra, Gwalior, Rourkela, Kadapa, Jharsuguda, Vidyanagar, Burnpur, Kullu, Diu, Mysore, Shillong, Jagdalpur, Salem, Utkela, and Hosur. The regional airlines will connect these destinations with their nearest bigger airports such as Delhi, Chennai, Bhubaneswar, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Jaipur, among others. An Inter-Ministerial Monitoring-cum-Coordination Committee has been set up by the Union Government to monitor the UDAN scheme. Coordination among stakeholders, including the state governments, for time-bound implementation of the scheme is a major responsibility of the committee. It will also monitor schemes of promotion of regional connectivity by way of revival of unserved and under-served airports.
