ISSUE BACKGROUND

An application was made by the Humber Bay Landowners Group Inc. to name four proposed public streets and one proposed private lane for the community at 2143 to 2183 Lake Shore Boulevard West and 80 Marine Parade Drive. The proposed names are identified according to the chart below on Attachment No.1 Sketch No. PS-2015-024.

Part # Proposed Name 1 Shore Breeze Drive 2 Silver Moon Drive 3 The Marginal Boulevard 4 Annie Craig Drive 5 Crow's Beach Lane

The proposed names have historical relevance to this community. The following background information was provided by Weston Group Inc. and Graywood Developments on behalf of the Humber Bay Landowners Group:

"Silver Moon Drive" & "Shore Breeze Drive" – these names acknowledge two former motels that operated along Lake Shore Boulevard West.

"Annie Craig Drive" – This was the name of one of two steamboats which ran from Toronto to the Humber River in the late 1800s.

"The Marginal Boulevard" – In 1921 work began on "The Marginal Boulevard" which was to make a complete loop around the City and extend along the waterfront. This section along the waterfront became Lake Shore Boulevard West.

"Crow's Beach Lane" - This name acknowledges the beach that was formerly located where The Palace Pier condominium development now sits.

COMMENTS

All of the names were circulated for comment to Councillor Grimes, Toronto Police Service, Toronto Fire Services, Toronto Paramedic Services, and the Etobicoke York Preservation Panel.

No objections were received to the names, with the exception of "The Marginal Boulevard", which was objected to by the Etobicoke York Preservation Panel. The Panel preferred that another former motel be recognized. Humber Bay Shores
