Participated in the China Open Super Series, YONEX- SUNRISE Dr. Akhilesh Das Gupta India Open, 2018, French Open Super Series, Japan Open Super Series, Korea Open Super Series, US Open Grand Prix, Premier Badminton League, German Open Super Series and All England Badminton Championship, World Badminton Championship. Reached in Semi-Finals at the Daihatsu Indonesia Masters Open. Selected to represent Indian Badminton Team at the Commonwealth Games, 2018. NATIONAL & INTER UNIVERSITY LEVEL PLAYERS (7 students, medal won 3) Aakash Gandhi (TYBFM) won the silver medal at the West Zone Inter University Chess Championship, 2017-18 and won the Fifth Position at the All India Inter University Chess Championship, 2017-18, held at Bhopal from 28th to 31st October, 2017. Jainam Ranawat (TYBCOM) won the 4th position at the All India Inter University Diving Championship, 2017-18 held at Chandigarh. Jainam Ranawat (TYBCOM) secured seventh position at the Senior National Level Diving Championship, held at Bhopal. Urmil Shah (SYBCOM) won the Bronze Medal at the All India Inter University Gymnastics & Malkham Tournament 2017-18 being organized by Kurushetera University, Kurushetera from 15th to 19th January, 2018. Tanshi Agarwal (SYBCOM), participated at the National Rifle Shooting Championship, held at Chandigarh. Rhea Shah (FYBMS) selected to represent Mumbai Women Throwball team and participated in the Federation Cup National Throwball Championship held at Puduchury from 23rd to 24th September, 2017. Shivani Desai (TYBOM) participated at the AITA Tennis Tournament, held in Mumbai from 15th to 18th December, 2017. Malini Sapaliga (SYBCOM) participated in the athletics and Kho- Kho event at the National Blind Games, held at Ludhiana, Punjab from 11th to 17th January, 2018, organized by the National Sports Club of the Blind. INTERCOLLEGIATE LEVEL & STATE (TOTAL NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS 80) Vatsal Gandhi (TYBMS) & Karan Kochar (TYBMS) won the Silver Medal at the Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament, held at University of Mumbai, kalian campus, organized by University of Mumbai. Bodisatya Rana (TYBSCIT), won the Bronze Medal at the Intercollegiate Aquatics Tournament, 2017-18 held at Charni Road, organized by University of Mumbai on 19th August, 2017. Urmil Shah (SYBCOM) won the Gold Medal at the Inter Collegiate Gymnastics & Malkham Tournament 2017-18 being organized by University of Mumbai. Jainam Ranawat (TYBCOM) won the Second Position at the Senior State Level Diving Championship, held at Pune. N.M. College Chess Team won the Ist Position at the Intercollegiate Chess Tournament, 2017-18, organized by the University of Mumbai and Mittal College, Malad West from 25th- 27th July, 2017. .

    TALES COC THE NEWSLETTER OF BWF TECHNICAL OFFICIALS APRIL 2018 EDITION NO. 19 TIMES ARE A-CHANGIN’ By Torsten Berg Chair - BWF Referee Assessment Panel In 1963, we sang with Bob Dylan that “... you better start swimmin’, or you’ll sink like a stone, for the times they are a-changin’...” – and that’s still true today! The BWF Council has put forward rather radical proposals for changes to the Laws of Badminton which would change the scoring system, some of the service laws, and the law covering coaching in intervals, to the Annual General Meeting on 19 May, 2018. We, the technical officials, better start swimming to keep up with these changes, should they be approved, as they will considerably change the sport and how we do our job. We shall soon thereafter be ready with consequential amendments to the ITTO and possibly other BWF Statutes also, and we shall be ready to put the changes into practice on court. The purpose of the proposals seems to be to speed up the sport, shorten the length of matches, and improve the presentation, in particular, at the highest levels. Remember, a Law proposal, even coming from the BWF Council, is not in force until it is approved by the membership at the AGM. Remember too, that often these types of decisions may contain a date of implementation, so that the necessary consequential technical changes can be actioned. Several experienced TOs have lately asked if the proposed changes are already in force. The answer is no – only the AGM can change the Laws.

Hopefully, 2022 will be a year of less tumult and more stability. Our new listing, updated from our 1 May 2021 edition, shows 743 events for the remainder of calendar year 2021 and through September 2022, for sports on the Olympic and Olympic Winter Games program. Last November, top badminton stars joined HSBC executives at ‘City Badminton’ in Hong Kong for an initiative by HSBC Life. This saw community groups, including the Hong Kong Sports Association for Persons with Intellectual Disability, students from Pui Kiu College, local junior talents, HSBC staff and shoppers at host venue Olympian City two participate in badminton activities such as coaching clinics and play-to- win contests. They were also shown the physical and mental benefits of exercise. More than 3,000 people took part in this venture.
