Mr. Garcia’s Assignments: 4th Quarter – Credit 2 Assignments Due: May 1 Government B United Nations Notes & Test Complete the notes and take the test on the United Nations. There is no reason to turn in your notes, your test grade will also be used for your notes grade. Think about what purpose the United Nations holds in our modern world? Where are they currently working to make the world a better place? How have they helped us avoid conflict in the past? Economics Taxes & Government Spending Test (30% of the credit) I will upload the notes, although they are not a required assignment. View the presentation and use it to take the test. Facing Economic Challenges Test (30% of the credit) I will upload the notes, although they are not a required assignment. View the presentation and use it to take the test. Research Project (40% of the credit) You have three options for your research project, Taxes, Government Spending or Unemployment/Low income programs Here is what I want you to do: If you choose to research taxes, how has the federal tax rate changed over time? What is the history behind income tax? What is the difference between a variable tax rate, and a flat tax on incomes? Who benefits from a flat tax? Research the 1978 Prop 13, how does the Prop 13 on the November ballot change the law? Who would be affected? What states have the lowest taxes (income, sales, and property), and which have the highest? Of these states which would you prefer to live in? If you choose to research government spending look deeper into how the federal, state, and local governments spend our tax money. What stands out to you? Is there a program that you disagree with? What is the biggest expense for each level of the government? What are your feelings on the national debt? Look at the current COVID-19 bailout, how is the money being spent? Is it a good use of our tax dollars? Where is the money for the bailout coming from? If you choose to research Unemployment/Low income programs, I want you to research programs that help people out during these hard times. Start on the local level with food banks, and other places you can get a free meal. Where do these places get donations from? How are they funded? How do you volunteer or donate? Then move up to the state, and federal level. What programs are there to help people living in poverty or who are currently unemployed? Some suggestions are Section 8 Housing, Food Stamps, WIC, Unemployment Insurance. How are the different programs funded? How prevalent are issues of abuse (people taking advantage of the programs)? For an example research Florida’s program to drug test people before they could receive unemployment insurance. Was it a good idea in your mind? Was it a proper use of state funds (drug test cost money)? Your research project should be 1-2 pages typed, and please include your sources! World History WWII Project I want you to make me a presentation on one aspect of WWII that interest you, your presentation should be around 15 slides long, include pictures, and text in short bullet point format. If you try to copy the text from the internet you will not pass this credit! I will upload an example slide to the assignments page, and on my website. There will also be a list of topics to choose from, email me with questions. Here is a link to the topics, and example slide US History 1930’s/Great Depression Complete the 1930’s notes and use them on the final test. Then choose ONE option off this list: 1. If the title doesn’t make it clear enough, the album is LIKE FATHER, LIKE We The Kings: Back By DAUGHTER a pretty scathing attack on Christianity, presented through children’s Popular Decree Like D. CHARLES SPEER & THE storybook-like rhymes that can have the listener giggling devilishly. HELIX: MIND TRICKS Right off the bat, Shernoff starts cracking jokes in “Are You Ready To Rapture?,” a song that was released alongside an animation two years ago. He refers to Jesus as a “zombie Jew,” and while his criticisms are nothing new, he excels easily in his ability to construct those attacks through rhyme; “the unmarried fornicators, the stem cell TATTOO view all crusaders, and the butthole invaders” is possibly the funniest set of words I’ve heard all month. Taking the format of a guitar ‘n’ harmonica blues number, “Skeptical” looks at the more personal questions that those who are unsure about religion have. “Fisher Of Men” turns the album’s focus to why people are reliant on a belief.

  • The Justice in Policing Act of 2020 in the U.S
June 23, 2020 Honorable Nancy Pelosi Speaker of the House 1236 Longworth House Office Building Washington, DC 20515 Honorable Kevin McCarthy Republican Leader 2468 Rayburn House Office Building Washington, DC 20515 Dear Speaker Pelosi and Leader McCarthy: Since the killing of George Floyd just one month ago, our country has seen protests grow, attitudes shift, and calls for change intensify. We in the music and entertainment communities believe that Black lives matter and have long decried the injustices endured by generations of Black citizens. We are more determined than ever to push for federal, state, and local law enforcement programs that truly serve their communities. Accordingly, we are grateful for movement of the Justice in Policing Act of 2020 in the U.S. House of Representatives and urge its quick passage. The Justice in Policing Act is not about marginal change; it takes bold steps that will make a real, positive difference for law enforcement and the communities they serve. We celebrate the long- overdue rejection of qualified immunity, emphasizing that law enforcement officers themselves are not above the law – that bad cops must be held accountable and victims must have recourse. We applaud the provisions to ban chokeholds and no-knock warrants, to establish a national police misconduct registry, to collect data and improve investigations into police misconduct, to promote de-escalation practices, to establish comprehensive training programs, and to update and enhance standards and practices. This legislation will not only promote justice; it will establish a culture of responsibility, fairness, and respect deserving of the badge. Our communities and nation look to you to take a stand in this extraordinary moment and we respectfully ask that you vote YES on the Justice in Policing Act of 2020.

WE ADVOCATE CHANGE – THOUGH DOLLARS ARE NICE, TOO My friends, MiX is here. We know what the problem is with your weekend, and we know how to fix it. MiX, and MiX alone, can fix this problem. Don’t go looking for those other weekend pull-out sections – they don’t love you like we do. We agree with them that you should be out having fun, but we’re not in cahoots with the Man like those other guys. If you try to have too much fun on the weekends, the police will fine you. Will fine you. We’re somber and responsible, but we know how to have fun, too.
