Malta and Gozo - Experiences of a study tour from 14th to 21st September 2019 Text and Photos: Hans-Rudolf Neumann Saturday, 14th September 2019 The morning flight from Berlin via Frankfurt Main to Malta with Lufthansa ran without any incidents. But check-in service in Berlin leaves a lot to be desired; the transition to digital full automation to reduce staff provoked the oppo- site effect. Luggage check-in and boarding on two different ends of the airport caused anno- yance, while during boarding two flights were serviced on the same counter. One two Warsaw and one to Frankfurt Main – the line on luggage security was more than 200 people and it was safe to ask the pilot again if this is the right plane when entering the plane. The on-board meal on the flight to Frankfurt consisted of a 30 g al- mond tartlet of a 65 mm size and a drink, on the connecting flight to Malta we had a honey nut bar and another drink. • Jesus Teaches and Heals
January 31, 2021 4th Sunday in Ordinary Time Jesus Teaches and Heals In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus heals a man whom others reject. Through this miracle, Jesus also teaches a powerful lesson about God’s love. What can you tell others about the healing power of the Holy Spirit? Complete the project, and then share how you teach others about Jesus. In the blank space, create a sticker that teaches about something important to you. Examples: taking care of the earth and its creatures, respect for life, being a good friend, choosing joy. You may draw a symbol or share a quote or a verse from the Bible—whatever best expresses your important teaching. Take a picture of your sticker and post it. Jesus saw two boats sitting by the lake. The fishermen had gone ashore and were washing their nets. Jesus boarded one of the boats, the one that belonged to Simon, then asked him to row out a little distance from the shore. Jesus sat down and taught the crowds from the boat. When he finished speaking to the crowds, he said to Simon, “Row out farther, into the deep water, and drop your nets for a catch.” Simon replied, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and caught nothing. But because you say so, I’ll drop the nets.” 13 9781501845987_INT_BookLayout.indd 13 10/18/18 12:00 PM SIMON PETER So they dropped the nets and their catch was so huge that their nets were splitting. They signaled for their partners in the other boat to come and help them. They filled both boats so full that they were about to sink. When Simon Peter saw the catch, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Leave me, Lord, for I’m a sinner!” Peter and those with him were overcome with amazement because of the number of fish they caught.

MALTESE E-NEWSLETTER 267 May 2019 MALTESE E-NEWSLETTER 267 May 2019 15 Years – Malta part of the European Union THIS MONTH is the 15th anniversary of the 2004 enlargement, when 10 countries acceded to the European Union: Malta, Cyprus, Czechia, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia. President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker said: “The decision in 2004 to embrace 10 European countries was a great moment for our continent and a great moment in history. The accession of the Central and Eastern European countries, and the courage of their people in preparing for that accession, is what allowed us to reconcile our continent’s geography with its history. I remain an ardent fan of enlargement today.” We have outlined some of the benefits of EU membership in the factsheet below. VOTE for Malta’s entry in the Eurovision Song Contest MICHELA "Chameleon” The 64th Eurovision Song Contest will be broadcast live and in prime time, exclusive to SBS (Australia) from 15 to 19 May. With the Federal Election on 18 May, Australians will be able to watch twice the amount of drama unfold in what is shaping up to be the double bill of the century. Voting during the three shows involved each country awarding two sets of points from 1-8, 10 and 12: one from their professional jury and the other from televoting. Each nation's jury consisted of five music industry professionals who are citizens of the country they represent, with their names published before the contest to ensure transparency. This jury judged each entry based on: vocal capacity; the stage performance; the song's composition and originality; and the overall impression by the act.

The two dignitaries referred to the Maltese community in France and Malta’s request to have observer status in the Organisation International de la Francophonie. They also discussed issues of mutual interest such as the situation in Europe vis-à-vis migrants, in Libya and Syria as well as the effect of fake news. Cooperation at Parliamentary level, with particular reference to the Parliamentary Friendship Group, also featured in the discussion. 3, CASTILLE PLACE, VALLETTA VLT 2000 Tel +(356) 2200 1700 Fax +(356) 2200 1775 www.doi.gov.mt Scott Morrison THE NEW PRIME MINISTER OF AUSTRALIA Scott Morrison has been sworn in as the country's 30th PM, after beating Peter Dutton in a vote 45-40. • Foxe's Book of Martyrs
FOXE'S BOOK OF MARTYRS CHAPTER I - History of Christian Martyrs to the First General Persecutions Under Nero Christ our Savior, in the Gospel of St. Matthew, hearing the confession of Simon Peter, who, first of all other, openly acknowledged Him to be the Son of God, and perceiving the secret hand of His Father therein, called him (alluding to his name) a rock, upon which rock He would build His Church so strong that the gates of hell should not prevail against it. In which words three things are to be noted: First, that Christ will have a Church in this world. Secondly, that the same Church should mightily be impugned, not only by the world, but also by the uttermost strength and powers of all hell. And, thirdly, that the same Church, notwithstanding the uttermost of the devil and all his malice, should continue. Which prophecy of Christ we see wonderfully to be verified, insomuch that the whole course of the Church to this day may seem nothing else but a verifying of the said prophecy. First, that Christ hath set up a Church, needeth no declaration. Secondly, what force of princes, kings, monarchs, governors, and rulers of this world, with their subjects, publicly and privately, with all their strength and cunning, have bent themselves against this Church! And, thirdly, how the said Church, all this notwithstanding, hath yet endured and holden its own! What storms and tempests it hath overpast, wondrous it is to behold: for the more evident declaration whereof, I have addressed this present history, to the end, first, that the wonderful works of God in His Church might appear to His glory; also that, the continuance and proceedings of the Church, from time to time, being set forth, more knowledge and experience may redound thereby, to the profit of the reader and edification of Christian faith.

MALTESE NEWSLETTER 43 MAY 2014 CONSULATE OF MALTA IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA NEWSLETTER MAY 2014 FRANK L SCICLUNA - LINKING MALTA AND AUSTRALIA EMAIL: [email protected] Website: www.ozmalta.page4.me Queensland flag -AUSTRALIA History of the State of Queensland flag The state flag was first introduced in 1876 when Queensland was a self-governing British colony with its own navy. In 1865, the Governor of Queensland was informed by the Admiralty in London that the colony's vessels of war should fly the Blue Ensign (British flag), with the colony's badge on the stern, and a blue pennant at the masthead. Other vessels in the colony's service were to fly the same flag, but not the pennant. At that time, Queensland did not have a badge https://www.qld.gov.au/about/how-government- works/flags-emblems-icons/state-badge/ . This prompted the submission to London of a proposed badge design. In 1875, the Governor received drawings of the badges of several colonies from London, which the Admiralty proposed to include in the Admiralty Flag Book. The Governor was asked to certify that the badge shown for the colony of Queensland was correct. The badge was composed of a representation of Queen Victoria's head, facing right, on a blue background and encircled by a white band, with the . word Queensland at the top. The Queensland Government believed it would be too difficult to adequately reproduce the head of the Queen on a flag. An alternative design, a Royal Crown superimposed on a Maltese Cross, was then submitted to London.
