All our hearts go out to the children who were to make their 1st Holy Communion last May. Communion is a highpoint for our children their families and extended families and their school and parish community. A new date has been set to mark this wonderful occasion on Saturday 3rd October 2020 at 12.00 noon in The Sacred Heart Church, Belmullet for the boys and girls of Belmullet National School. Saturday 10th October 2020 at 12.00 noon in Our Lady of Lourdes Church , Glencastle for the boys and girls of Glencastle and Barnatra National School. Having gone into third class this will give the pupils some time to settle in during September and prepare for their first confession. It also gives their new teachers time to prepare the children. I myself will be working with the school principle and their teachers to help in the preparation. Thanking you all for your patience and kindness during this very difficult and uncertain time. Rev. Michael Reilly P.P. Returning to Mass - Dates Most parishes have decided to postpone the opening of their Churches to Mon 20th July so that everything is in place for health & safety. Belmullet Parish Plans: The Sunday/Holyday obligation has been suspended for the time being and those who cannot come to Mass are invited to participate on Belmullet Church webcam churchtv.ie Adequate and appropriate signage will be displayed in each Church; Social distancing (at present 2 metres) will apply. This will considerably reduce the capacity of our churches; Hand sanitises is installed and used at every Church entrance and exit. No Masses on Mondays Priests and Eucharistic ministers will wear face covering when distributing Holy Communion; Holy Communion may only be received on the hand. Holy Communion will be distributed after Mass. Please come up to the altar in a single file observing social distance. There will be no servers during the corona virus pandemic as the sacristy has to be reserved for Priest and sacristans only. There will be no choirs during the coronavirus pandemic. A musician and singer will provide the music for our liturgies Mass on Fridays at 11am for our Senior Citizens and their carers in The Sacred Heart Church, Belmullet. This Mass is reserved for our senior citizens and their carers to accommodate them. Thanking you for your cooperation. Three people in every second seat. We must ensure that the required physical distance is maintained during all liturgies, some seating rows (every second one) will be closed off. Any larger group (family or household) would occupy a row to themselves. Extra people can listen in their car outside Church if the church is full. Participation over the week is encouraged rather than having everybody turn up on Sunday. The collection basket will not be distributed please insert your parish donation or envelopes into the donation boxes attached to the wall as you leave or enter the church. People will be asked to leave the Church gradually after Communion and encouraged not to gather at the church door so that social distancing is maintained. Stewards will be available at the church door to help people to their seats. Those who are sick or have any symptoms of or confirmed COVID-19 should stay at home. Church will be sanitised after every Mass. Glan Assured an Erris based business has committed to the disinfection of our churches prior to the reopening and resumption of Masses. Two of our parishioners has kindly sponsored the first eight weeks of church disinfections. Their charitable deed is greatly appreciated by all. People have to accept personal responsibility for there own safety and have patience while we all adjust to these new arrangements. A sincere thank you to all of the volunteers. If anyone would still like to volunteer we need more cleaners for Belmullet church please contact Fr. Michael or give your name into the parish office. It is clear that the COVID-19 virus will remain present at some level in the community for the foreseeable future. Just as human behaviour has been very successful in reducing the level of community contagion, human behaviour will also determine what happens in the weeks and months ahead. All the evidence of recent weeks has been that the most important factors in reducing the spread of the infection have been the adherence to physical distancing and hand hygiene. If properly and sensitively implemented and care-fully managed, we believe that these measures will help all of us to re-engage with the public life of the Church with confidence, energy and joy. We recognise that some of our parishioners may feel that they would be better advised to stay at home for the time being and we look forward to supporting their continued participation online. RECENTLY DECEASED Please pray for the soul of Paddy Leech, Tallagh & Séan Walsh, Rathfarnham brother of Kevin Walsh, Church Road. May they rest in peace. SUPPORTING YOUR PARISH FINANCIALLY As with so many others in society the Covid 19 outbreak has serious financial implications for our parish. Some parishioners have asked me how they can continue to support the parish in the absence of public masses. The following are a few options: 1. You can drop your envelope in my letter box at the parish house in Belmullet. 2. You can continue to put aside your weekly contributions in you envelope and when the Parish office re-opens on the 18th May you can put them into the box provided. 3. You can drop your envelopes into the box provided in Bunnahowen post office. 4. ONLINE DONATIONS. This diocese of Killala has launched an Online Donation System on a secure online platform operated by Stripe, a leading global company for secure online payments. The online donation option will be available on the homepage of our diocesan website (www.killaladiocese.org) and donations can be made to three types of collections: Weekly Offering Collection, Priest's Revenue Collections and Special Collections. Donors will be able to select their parish and the collection(s) they wish to donate to. Monies will be transferred to a central "Parishes Account" in the Diocese of Killala and forwarded to the individual parishes on a monthly basis. Many thanks to all of you who continue to support our parish and to all who have dropped in envelopes in my letter box. I want to say a word of gratitude for your continued contributions and generosity to our parish. It is very much appreciated. During these challenging times of the Covid 19 pandemic we are continuing to serve our parishioners every way possible.
