Ugh, I hate the LPAP requirement V Thresher endorses N Sanjula Jain for Student Association President This year's Student Association presidential debate featured a great performance by all the candidates, proving the stereotype that Rice students are engineers lacking any charisma at least partially false. However, after viewing the competitive verbal sparring, in the eyes of the Thresher editorial staff, Sanjula Jain is the clear choice for our next SA president. This is certainly not to say that the other candidates were without merits. Benjamin Chou articulated praiseworthy ideas but many of them, such as increased financial aid, are beyond the scope of the SA's power. The Thresher hates to criticize a student for dreaming too big, but acknowledgment of practical limitations is key to a leader's m success. Ben Hawriluk also had some quality ideas and handled himself well, but as a freshman, Hawriluk simply lacks the experi- ence required for the job. BRIAN PATTERSON SPORTS PERFORMANCE CENTER An exciting new chapter in the storied history of Rice Stadium and Rice Athletics debuts this fall when the Owls move into their sparkling new end zone facility, the Brian Patterson Sports Perfor- mance Center. The fully-funded $33 million project includes a 60,000-square-foot, two-story structure that houses a weight room, a home team locker room, coaching and staff offices, an auditorium, a football team lounge and areas for training and sports medicine that include hydrotherapy, plunge pools and exam rooms. The weight room and sports medicine areas will be available to student-athletes from all sports at Rice. The new building features a glass wall on the side facing the football field that offers a view of the weight rooms on the ground and second floors. The other three sides will be made of brick that complements the color of the brick on the rest of the stadium. White columns supporting the roof will be similar to the columns in other parts of the stadium. A concrete ramp will provide access to the football field. Fans will also benefit from the dramatic upgrade in facilities with the installation of a new Daktronics video system Rice Stadium will also feature two acoustically transparent video displays in front of the venue’s speaker systems. These free-form LED stick applications will measure 29 feet high by 10 feet wide to provide additional video and graphics capabilities in a space typically used for fixed signage. These displays will provide flexibility to show multiple sponsorship messages throughout an event or additional graphics to pump up the crowd at key moments during the game.

  • The Orkustra
THE ORKUSTRA This day-by-day diary of The Orkustra's live, studio, broadcasting and private activities is the result of two decades of research and interview work by Bruno Ceriotti, but without the significant contributions by other kindred spirits this diary would not have been possible. So, I would like to thank all the people who, in one form or another, contributed to this timeline: Jaime Leopold (RIP), Bobby Beausoleil, David LaFlamme, Henry Rasof, Nathan Zakheim, Stephen Hannah, Jesse Barish, Steve LaRosa, Rod Harper (RIP), Colin Hill, Ross Hannan, Corry Arnold, William Hjortsberg, Aldo Pedron, Klemen Breznikar, Reg E. Williams, Charles Perry, Penny DeVries, Claire Hamilton, Lessley Anderson, Ralph J. Gleason (RIP), Craig Fenton, Alec Palao, Johnny Echols, 'Cousin Robert' Resner, Roman Garcia Albertos, James Marshall, Chester Kessler, Gene Anthony, Christopher Newton, Loren Means, The San Francisco Examiner, San Francisco Chronicle, San Francisco Oracle, and Berkeley Barb. September 1966 Undoubtedly the most experimental and ecletically diverse band of the so-called 'San Francisco Sound', The Orkustra were put together by the infamous Bobby Beausoleil. A larger than life character with a mixed reputation ("He was like Bugs Bunny," says Orkustra's bandmate Nathan Zakheim. "Very in your face, enthuastic."), Robert Kenneth Beausoleil, aka 'Cupid', aka 'Bummer Bob', aka 'Bobby Snofox', was born on Thursday, November 6, 1947, in Santa Barbara, California. After dropping out of high school and let his hair grow out, Bobby moved to Los Angeles in search of fame and fortune in 1965. There, over the summer, he played a six-string rhythm guitar with The Grass Roots, a folk- rock band later known as LOVE, for only three weeks, and also made a cameo appearance (as 'Cupid') in the famous underground documentary movie Mondo Hollywood.

Such emotions that I have no control over and kind of taking photos of them, that's kind of like taking control of them, which is good - feeling in control. And it calms me down in a sense. ; 2nd interview) For two of the adolescents, their photos revealed how useful visual material can be in sharing their stories: It's just basically like I can't find the right words to talk about my problems. The Experience of Coming Out 207 APPENDIX D The Interview Transcriptions Olivia [1] Can you tell me when the possibility first occurred to you that you were sexually attracted to women? I think I was about…23. I was asexual…for a long time. Through undergrad and the first part of grad school. A woman approached me. Many women would approach me. And um…a lot of people assumed I was gay before I even acknowledged or even dealt with it. Once I left my father’s house, I just was not sexual. [2] So you were 23 years old, and then what happened? You were out of the house. I was out of the house. I was in graduate school already. Her name was Sara Lincoln. She befriended me. There were a couple of women but I didn’t really know what the response was. To give you some background on that, my mother left my father when I was ten. Okay? Um, So he…there was four of us, and he raised us. I took her place in the household. Okay, um …[pause] and I was a chubby child. I was bulimic. And as a young adult, I didn’t want the weight. I didn’t like um “you have a fat ass” type of thing. So even now my sister goes through this thing about how I eat. Um…If I gain, you know, too much weight I [shifted around on the couch with a deep breath] get real paranoid-hysterical? Because I don’t like the attraction of the body.
