MASSES FOR JULY 22-28, 2019 HOW TO HANDLE THE PANHANDLER SITUATION IN THE PARKING LOT Monday It has come to our attention 8:30 a.m. (FDY) Margaret Cooke that there are unfamiliar people by Gerald Cook who have been aggressively soliciting money in the Tuesday church parking lot, before and 8:30 a.m. (FDY) Thomas Garforth after Masses (especially on by Senior Fellowship Group Saturday evenings). Fr. Dave Wednesday respectfully asks that you 8:30 a.m. (FMK) Billy Barpolavitch refrain from giving money to by Tom & Judy Haddox these folks. We realize that this may seem, at first, to Thursday be an un-Christian thing to do. However, when we 8:30 a.m. (FMK) All Souls in Purgatory have offered them legitimate assistance and resources by Marilou Harmeyer (in ways that both honor their dignity and prevent the misuse of the charitable aid they receive), they have Friday spurned our efforts. Further, giving money directly 8:30 a.m. (MPG) Living and Deceased from your open wallet or purse, in this context, can put Members of the Parish you (and those around you) in a dangerous situation, Saturday providing an opportunity for crime and/or injury. 5:00 p.m. (FMK) Norris Goodly by Gerard While there are certainly people in genuine need in our & Angelina Broussard community, we want to assist them in ways that will Sunday lift them up (and which will not take advantage of the 8:30 a.m. (FMK) Gerald Casper by Ann Arnold kind hearts of our parishioners!). You can be sure that NEWLY REGISTERED: Thomas Clark; Duane Smith; we want to help anyone in genuine need, as much as we Lauren Shiman & Andrew Shepler; Nicholas, Andrea, possibly can. SAINT OF THE DAY FOR JULY 27

Blessed Antonio Lucci (August 2, 1682-July 25, 1752) Blessed Antonio Lucci’s Story: Antonio studied with and was a friend of Francesco Antonio Fasani, who after Antonio Lucci’s death, testified at the diocesan hearings regarding the holiness of Lucci. Born in Agnone in southern Italy, a city famous for manufacturing bells and copper crafts, he was given the name Angelo at baptism. He attended the local school run by the Conventual Franciscans and joined them at the age of 16. Antonio completed his studies for the priesthood in , where he was ordained in 1705. Further studies led to a doctorate in theology and appointments as a teacher in Agnone, Ravello, and . He also served as guardian in Naples. Elected minister provincial in 1718, the following year he was appointed professor at St. College in , a position he held until Benedict XIII chose Antonio as of Bovino in 1729. The pope explained, “I have chosen as bishop of Bovino an eminent theologian and a great saint.” His 23 years as bishop were marked by visits to local parishes and a renewal of gospel living among the people of his diocese. He dedicated his episcopal income to works of education and charity. At the urging of the Conventual minister general, Bishop Lucci wrote a major book about the and blesseds in the first 200 years of the Conventual Franciscans. Antonio Lucci was beatified in 1989, three years after his friend Francesco Antonio Fasani was canonized. His Liturgical Feast Day is July 25.
